The Amazing Spider-Man Pros and Cons of the casting choices from TAS and Spider-Man 2002

Sally Field turns 66 this year and Denis Leary will be 55. Given the ages of Peter and Gwen, I'd say they're spot on. Maybe a little too old. I mean 66 is reasonable age for his grandmother. Hell, even 55 isn't out of the grandparent territory.

I was actually shocked when I found out how old Andrew really was. He fit the teenager role a lot better than Tobey did.

Additional note: Leary's son is 22 an his daughter is 20. Field's oldest son is 43 and has kids.

the thing is though she dyed her hair though so she doesnt really look 66.More like early 50's late 40's. She is obviously more concerned about looking young for future roles in hollywood instead of properly looking the part.Martin Sheen didnt do that.Just like he does in all his movies,he did the best he could on not only playing the role but looking the role as well.No excuse for her to not keep her natural hair color.

With Field dying her hair like she does, she doesnt look old enough now to be the mom of her oldest son.bad decision.Bring back Rosemary Harris. Oh and I still like the casting choice of the actor of Captain Stacy in sm 3 better than Dennis Leary as well. For another film,he would be good for Stones dad with her hair dyed blond, not for this movie.

she was just miscast because Dunst is a far superior actress to stone if you watch her non spidey roles

should of got an oscar nom last year to be honest

I dont think DUNCE was miscast in spidey. She looked hot and fit the part of Mary Jane, she just didnt portray her character properly.Like i said, she acted much more like Gwen and nothing at all like Mary Jane and the blame for that falls squarly on Raimi.

I dont believe a word of it that he ever read the comics cause if he did he would know that Mary jane is suppose to be a stuck up flaky air head and wild party girl and a ****** half the time. She was cast perfectly in the role its just she did not study the character and neither did Raimi.

I hope Webb gets her character right when we see her.Just once I would like to see hollywood get it right and portray her character properly on the screen.Thats something neither the movies or the cartoon ever got right.:cmad: If they dont get it right this time,I have lost faith in hollywood.

I agree that Dunst got progressively worse with each film. It looked like she stopped caring by Spider-Man 3. Wasn't she wearing a wig in the first film, and then she liked the look so much she just dyed it red? Maybe that's why she looked hot in the first film, and not so much in the next two..

Kirsten looked hot in Spider-Man 1 & 3 IMO.

They were going with more of a Ult. Spidey vibe with Aunt May that i feel works. We got the old and withering Aunt May the first time around, i don't mind a younger take on the role.

Old and withering? LOLOL:oldrazz:

I thought the ASM cast was amazing.

Garfield fit the teenager profile way better than Maguire did. Especially considering that he's older than Toby was!

It's the lankiness and the hair.

Yeah. His build and the more modern wardrobe and hair really made him look a decade younger. Similar with Emma Stone. She wears a lot of makeup in real life but looked more natural, thus, younger in the film.

I thought that Sally Fields made a good Aunt May, she looked the right age but maybe she'll be even more stressed in the next movie and go grey lol. I think this movie has finally got me to picture Sally Fields in another role other than in Mrs. Doubtfire.

Sorry but I preferred Cliff Robertson. Both are great actors, but Cliff is one of those actors that exudes decency and integrity without having to say anyting. His performance was nuanced, but my favorite exchange in the first one was where he says "I know I'm not your father" and Peter throws it back in his face, and Ben compassionately just let's him go. I liked Martin Sheen, but his performance was too forced. Speaking of which I wonder if he ever had that conversation about responsibility with Charlie that he did with Peter......apparently not.

That's exactly my problem with Robertson. He can't do anything but being kind-hearted and compassionate about every damn thing. "I'll wait for you so we paint the kitchen Michelangelo. Thumbs up." - Peter doesn't come - "I left your dinner in the oven, Michelangelo." Goddamn, man. Teach the kid some manners and responsibility: you don't do that petting his head and giving him food for being irresponsible. "I know I'm not your father," "You sure are not." Oh, ok, you're right. No, sir. You teach the kid to behave, not that being offensive makes adults quiet. Robertson's Ben was too much of a one-dimensional character. He was kindness itself and nothing else, he didn't have even a second layer.

Yeah, I always thought Cliff's Ben handled the painting thing strangely as a parental figure. Even when I watched SM1 the first time, I expected a reception like the one Peter got from Ben in TASM. It's just natural.

You can tell Martin's Ben wouldn't be afraid to grab a belt and put it on Pete's behind if need be.

Huh..

I never connected the painting thing to picking up Aunt May...

damn.. now I understand more how people can see that Webb copied Raimi..

but I have a feeling I never connected it because the painting thing went by pretty quickly and didn't have a true emotional impact.

True. It tried to, but it didn't have an emotional impact. It just - as you say - came and went.

Well, to be fair, there's a big difference between forgetting to paint and forgetting to pick up your aunt, forcing her to walk a dozen blocks then take the train home by herself.

:lmao: So true.

Every time I read this thread title, the Roots singing that pros and cons tune for Jimmy Fallon gets stuck in my head.

I know, that's what a parental fuigure knows he should do if given the case. You don't go anywhere with smilies and a good heart only.

Actually, forcing an old unemployed man to paint a room by himself is not that far.

I never understood why in the comics Aunt May was shown as so old. She's an aunt, not a grandmother so she would be similar to Peter's mum's age, which is why I liked the casting choice.

Disagree.I think he nailed it.She looked hot in the first one and was just plain butt ugly in the next two.

I think your right.Thats the only thing that makes any sense why she was hot in the first one and was just so ugly in the last two.
