PS3: HDMI Cable NOT Included!

I'm just saying that, if you're trying to compare the PS3 to other similarly-priced HD units, you're only left with other Blu-Ray players. Blu-Ray is basically Sony's baby (yes I know it's not JUST theirs, but they're the figurehead for BR), so if anything, it's telling me that BR is even less buy-worthy than previously thought, because any way you look at it, you're not getting everything you need to use it the way it's touted to be used, even though it's already extremely expensive.

Yeah but it's that way for any HD-Player, and among those HD players, it's one of the cheapest on the market at 600 dollars, right?

Nope. HD-DVD is $500. Doesn't include the cables either, but you can buy one and STILL be cheaper than the next-cheapest player.

Really I don't care about this because I have a standard t.v.. Really I don't see the diffrence between a H.D. t.v. and a standard, I mean personally I think its just a conspiracy telling you that one t.v. is better when there really isn't a diffrence.

I'm not trying to sound belittling or anything, but you obviously haven't seen a side-by-side comparison of HD and SD yet. A person really cannot comprehend how much difference there is, how much room for better clarity, until you've seen HD.

Because you're not watching sports on TV unless you can see Section 37G of the stadium the game you're watching is being played at

if they'd bundled it, another bunch of you would just be complaining that it bumped up the price when you weren't intrested in blue ray movies. or saying sony were throwing money away. you should be able to connect the thing up for games in 1080p with other connections. so it's a games machine that takes advantage of blueray technology. and remember previously DVD drives were more commen in computers before they became CE devices, so there is presidence.

want a games machine buy the right cable want a games machine and blue ray player get the HDMI cable and a HD set. want a games machine with a smaller hard disk get the cheaper version. it called options. but atleast every game will bloody work in every option.

all you've got to think is the PS3 worth 100 more than the x-box 360 as a games machine. is it worth another 100 ontop of that for a blue ray player if you so choose. spend what you want to spend. get a wii or 360 instead it doesn't matter to anyone else one bit. because they make their own decision on what's worth it to them.

Somebody show me what everyone sees in an HD tv? My friend has a 60 inch H.D. t.v where he plays his 360 and I watch sports on it and television and it just looks funky, then he brought his 360 over here and played it on my t.v. it was like I was looking at the same game, no diffrence really.

And when I say conspiracy i'm talking about the human psyche. If you're told something you label it and your mind processes it like there really is something better. I mean take example a game being played on a t.v. and you're like wow those graphics are intense, and you're thinking its a PS3 playing those impressive graphics. Then you're bud tells you yeah those are 360 graphics your mind then processes it diffrently and you're like dude those graphics are terrible.

Theres a cool video on youtube that's able to explain this whole labeling thing and its quite interesting, i'll try to find it.

lol that's taking it a bit far.

I love HD-viewing over SD-viewing just as much as I love DVD-viewing over VHS-viewing. VHS looks great, too, until you see what DVD has to offer.

set your pc res to 640 by 480 and tell me there is no difference.

that's only if you're letting your bud think for you. guess he's trying to make you think for yourself.

i've seen a resent counter example. x360 images were mislabelled as PS3 images people thought they were terrible then some one else found out about the mistake. because the images were duplicates of 360 images from a reputable site. and this was after they were praising PS3 images before that actually were PS3 images. some people have got their own opinions sorted out.

Plain and simple: Sony needs to choose a position and stick with it.

Is 1080p necessary to be considered truly HD? Then provide the cable necessary for it.

Is 1080p not necessary? Then don't pretend like it is, and don't charge us for a 1080p player if we don't want it.

From Nov. until March I had just a regular SD TV, and used it for my 360. Sure it looked fine, though a bit blurry around the edges. In March I got my HDTV and the difference is monumental. If you cannot see it, then it's not set up right, or you're in need of glasses. Did you bother changing the system settings to HD settings?

That's the major difference I've seen with sports on regular TV and on an HDTV. You see more people in the stands. wow.

ah you're not getting it. it's a rub at Microsoft for only doing 720p. it's like if you're going HD you might aswell go all the way to true HD if you want the best don't settle for the rest mentality. 720P is here but 1080 isn't far of at all. and ofcourse, it costs more. but as a percentage of the cost of a 720P set it's not so much more. it's like supersizing. the more you spend the better value. or you can wait for the price to come down and get the best for less.

That's like saying they should provide the TV because their game system uses an optical output. It's not the norm for cables to be included, take your issue up with every manufacturer who produces HDMI compatible TVs or players of any sort, not just Sony and their PS3.

But when most of the world is just now getting into the 1080i world. It's like cooking dinner as you're eating breakfast. 99% of the world is not ready for 1080p and won't be until the NEXT next-gen systems come out. It's just unnecessary overkill right now.

It's like supersizing, yes...but most people don't have stomach and appetite to eat more than Large size, and will end up just throwing away that extra 'food' that they paid for.

now your forgetting that a PS3 isn't just for christmas. if people want to wait for 1080P which will probably take a year or less they can.

also ps3s aren't perisable like food is. you can save the rest for later. and it'll still be as good.

economies of scale make it much cheaper for everyone conserned. 1080p surport doesn't cost sony much in the long run. so it doesn't really drive the cost up. bluray costs a bit but they are actually taking a hit on it to get it out there and affordable. it benefits anyone with any HDTV. 1080P is just the best option. sony aren't selling to the whole world in the begining anyway. they are selling to enthusiasts. the rest of the world comes later. after a price drop or 2.

So is that all HD does is just make it a little smoother around the edges? Yeah my friend sets his T.V. at 1080i for his 360.

on big screens it stops things looking pixelated.

I find it hard to even find myself remotely bothered that this particular cable isn't included in the box. It's hardly earth shatteringly disappointing.

IT'S ALSO NOT VERY SURPRISING. IF YOU CONSIDER HOW MUCH MONEY 'SONY' WILL BE LOSING ON EVERY 'PS3'.........FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS MINIMUM.......THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR MORE "FREEBIES".
AND, APPARENTLY THE DATA PIPELINES INSIDE THESE CABLES ARE MADE OF GOLD...........THE ONE COMING OUT FOR THE '360' WILL RETAIL FOR $99.
THERE'S NO F***ING WAY ANYONE'S GOING TO INCLUDE A CABLE THAT RETAILS FOR THAT MUCH........PARTICULARLY IF YOU'RE IN 'SONY'S PRECARIOUS POSTITION. :o

So what you guys are saying is its only good to have an HDTV if you have a big t.v.? Because I have like a 23 inch t.v. in my room where I plan on putting my Playstation 3, so then that means it will look fine? Just asking.

Your PS3 will look fine regardless. If you have a HD TV however it's going to look better.

IF YOU HAVE A 23" HD MONITOR, THAT'S FINE........IF YOU DON'T MIND PLAYING ALL YOUR GAMES 2 FEET AWAY FROM THE SCREEN.
I HAVE A 55" HDTV, AND I SIT BACK ON MY COMFY LEATHER COUCH........8 FEET AWAY. I HONESTLY CAN'T STAND TO WATCH ANYTHING ON A SMALLER SCREEN NOW (AFTER 1-1/2 YEARS WITH MY HDTV).
BUT YEAH......WITHOUT THE TOTAL PACKAGE, IT'S REALLY KINDA POINTLESS, IMO.
