my 160 gig slim is not even a year old as neat as the slim 2.0 is my PS3 is in my home audio cabinet and a top loader if that is what it will be would be a pain in the ass to swap discs out unless I place it on top of my left front speaker just as my 360 slim is on my right front (on top of my 10 year old xbox )

I heard that Gamestop has cancelled preorders for the Madden 320gb bundle bc those models are no longer in production. Gives more validity to the new consoles coming soon.

Hmmm, that is great point. It shows up on Amazon, but you can't but it yet. You have to sign up to be alerted when it is available. That's very suspicious since the game hits the shelves in little over a month.

Newest rumor is that Sony will announce a 16gb (some have said 12 or 20gb) and a 500gb Super Slim (my name for it) at TGS. Current Slims are being phased out and the new ones will be on sale this month/early October. Prices are $179 or $199 and $299 respectively. The systems will include 2 games. Guess we will have to wait until TGS.

Man I wish the 500gb was coming out next week bc Id get that. Im gonna attempt the YLOD fix and if it works, hopefully that will last me a month till that comes out
Sucks that would come out with the new system more expensive than what is currently offered here. They really should have been releasing the 250gb without the bundle

Yeah, the pricing is weird. They call the U3 bundle a limited edition, so maybe a stand alone for $199 will come out after they burn through those? That's the only thing I can think of.

I wonder why the 12gig isn't coming to the US?

I think the standalone will be closer to $219.99 or $229.99. My guess they did the bundle so they can keep the price of the system high. With BF right around the corner, I suspect that these new models wont be going on sale but that most retailers and Sony will try and get rid of any remaining stock of the old systems by discounting those/creating special bundles. I think we could see the current 160gb for $149.99 and the 320gb for $199.99. After that has passed, the new slim bundles will be phased out with standalones arriving by January at a lower price point

Bundles are rarely the true value of the system + game. Its usually at a discounted price which is why I think the standalone wont be $200.

Thanks for the comparison pics. Glad that the system is finally a rectangle bc I hated the square shape of the old slim.

Anyways, I decided I will wait it out and get the ACIII bundle. As a Plus member, 250gb just isnt enough and I already own UC3 and all the DLC; I have no interest in Dust. For $30 more, I get an extra 250gb of space and I was already getting ACIII, so its a no brainer for me

I just dont like the lines on top and the sliding mechanism I do however like that they made it glossy again that's one thing I hate about the slim ps3

The visual design of the new PS3 is alright, I guess. I'm really not a fan of the top-loading mechanism for the discs. Don't like that at all.
