Ps5 vs. Series X/S: Which next gen system are you leaning more towards?

Which next gen console are you leaning more towards purchasing?

I’ll get both, but Xbox on launch, and I’ll wait for a price drop on PS5 and pick up all the exclusives I missed for cheap.

With the backward compatibility of both consoles I can see many gamers owning both by the end of the generation. I really hope that is something that is here to stay for all future consoles.

I just hope neither console launch at over $600 like PS3. I doubt it but would be very nice if both come with a month-3 month online membership with Xbox's case being Ultimate Gamepass.

Halo: Infinite being a launch title and added ri gamepass is a big plus, although I'm not planning on getting a new console until next year anyway
Over $600 I can't see for either. I would expect $600 to be the max but I'm expecting less. I think it will be either $400/$450 if anyone decides to go for price over power and $500/$550 for anyone going for Beast over budget. :word:

bro I highly doubt mS will go for $599 for the Series X. The console is revealed to be very powerful, but mS can afford to take heavy losses and make the console more affordable rather than charging a premium and turning a ton of people off about it.

PS5 for me, never seen the point in owning both consoles when the actual number of quality exclusives is so low. Especially given that both Sony & Microsoft's next-gen systems are almost certainly near identical in hardware specs.

What also makes the PS5 a day one purchase for me is it's backward compatibility since I never got a PS4 Pro (just the original). It'll be nice to play the Pro-enhanced games with a higher frame rate and resolution.

The only enticing thing about Series X is all the game studios Microsoft has purchased recently (places like Obsidian and Ninja Theory). If the resulting games are of a high enough quality it may finally be tempting enough for me to purchase an Xbox.

We don't know what Ps5's specifications are yet. It's definitely possible it'll be near identical to Series X's, but I've also heard rumors it'll be weaker in comparison as well, for example 9 TFs compared to Series X's 12.

I agree though I've never owned more than one home console in a generation because to me it's just a whole lot of up front costs just for hardware.

Now that the Series X specs have been officially revealed, I'm waiting on Sony to finally show their hand and reveal the PS5 design and specs.

The PS5 being only 9 TF to the X's 12 would be a bit of a concern for me. However, if PS5 ends up $100 cheaper than the Series X, and if the graphics still look "good enough" to me with all of the Sony exclusives, then that could be enough to keep me on PS5. However, if Series X has a significant and demonstrable power difference, then that could sway me towards the X.

however, there still is the question of what the PS5 will look like. If it looks anything like the supposed "V shaped" dev kits that have been leaked, then on design alone, that would be a hard pass. I like the look of the Series X.

full BC with all prior Playstation gens would be an instant win for me.

since my game time has decreased markedly in the past few years, I will most likely only go with one console next gen. For me, that will be the console where I can play the majority of games I'm interested in on one system.

which one are you leaning towards, XB?

I think Microsoft might be fibbing a little bit about Series X 12 TFlops. I'm sure it has twice the power of One X, but the change in GPU architecture does not translate one to one like that. You only need 9 RDNA teraflops to equal 12 GCN teraflops, which is what is being rumored for PS5. I think Microsoft simply threw out the 12 TFlop number because it's easier than getting into the weeds and confusing everyone.

All of the insiders I've been listening to have more or less said the same thing. That the consoles will be near identical in raw power, the differences come in what they use it for. Microsoft seems to be leaning into ray tracing & VRS while Sony's focus is on ease of use and loading times. But supposedly there will be even less of a difference performance wise between Series X & PS5 than there was with PS4 & Xbox One. It's all going to come down to price and exclusives, as always, and it seems likely that Series X will be the more expensive of the two.

I do have to admit to really liking Series X's tower design. It's unique and elegant, I'll be disappointed if PS5 is just another oblong box. I wouldn't mind a slimmer version of the dev kit, but they almost never resemble the final design.

I think the output from these studios will be very important. They need to bring top quality. If they don’t then the exclusive race will be an absolute battering with all the long running great single player IPs Sony has.

Been an Xbox guy since the "She kicks High" commercial for the original Xbox. Will be getting this one too. And the fact it will match up with my modem/router is a bonus.

If money allows I will pick up a PS4 Pro when the price drops far enough or grab a used one.

yes, this needs to be Xbox's next focus, now that the specs are more or less revealed. E3 will really have to showcase the launch titles, near launch titles, and titles just a bit further out. It's time for the Xbox Studios to start showing what they've been working on.

Also, MS can't afford to keep "missing out" on titles, such as the "niche" Jdev fighting games like Granblue Fantasy Versus or the next Guilty Gear. Or JRPG series like Persona.

Will the following episodes of Final Fantasy VII Remake also get 1 year PS exclusivity? MS can't afford that either.

Any 3rd party title that skips Xbox acts as an exclusive for the other platform(s).

MS also needs to secure more 3rd party exclusives for Xbox.

I think their focus on gamepass means they will be building towards long term exclusives in the way that that Netflix has suddenly gone all out on that front. One of the main sources of value with gamepass is getting games that will be available at launch and then available forever, and the more exclusives they make the bigger that library will get over time rather than having to depend only on the whims of 3rd party providers with titles dropping out regularly.

Probably PS5, unless the Xbox has some awesome exclusives.

I had to buy a new Xbox360 three times because of the RROD, so I'm a bit hesitant to purchase another Microsoft console. I've never had anything like that happen with Sony and Nintendo products. It's one of the reasons why I now have a PS4 instead of the XBoxOne (but mostly because of the exclusives)

Sad to see Xbox not getting much love and respect compared to Playstation. 8-3 in votes but at least someone else is joining me in planning to get both

Ps5 day one. Never been an Xbox guy. Always PlayStation.
Same here.

I don't care about "power". I never had a problem with ps4 while playing games. So as long as ps5 runs smoothly and it plays ps4 games, then its all I need really. Plus sequels to God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, The Last of Us and God knows how many exclusives they will release in the next 7 tk 8 years... their library is so much interesting than X-Box's. None of Xbox's eXclusive games have ever caught my interest.

I've been a ps guy since the late 90s and after purchasing a bunchof ps4 games in thelast two years. Its a no brainer I'm sticking with Playstation for the nXt generation.

But I have to say the design of the console better look amazing as I'm planning to purchase by early 2020. The leaked prototype design looks terrible.

Yep when it comes to exclusives it’s a no contest.

It was a lot worse during the X1 vote lol, but then when 360 was in its early days the Hype was totally dominated by Xbox. I know as I was the only PS guy (or at least the only one trying to talk about it) and the only reason I got an Xbox was because that was all anyone talked about here, plus to try out Gears of War.

Are there any confirmed or rumored launch titles for PS5? I love Halo but Sony has the potential to release a big title at any time. If PS5 is cheaper than the new xbox and has big gaming plans then I would likely get PS5 or at least first for a while.

If Sony's gamepass type service allows to download games than just stream, it would be a huge plus for me

From the specs that came out I can’t see the Series X being cheaper.

I quite like the Series X name though. Certainly a lot better than the dumb Xbox One. I think going with Series X means they will be able to have a consistent naming system going forward at least.
Honestly man I can't see how the names Series X is attractive. Why do you like it?

It's just another confusing name. The "Xbox" brand itself is a series, that is, it is a series of consoles. The series includes the Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the upcoming Xbox Series X. I was saying on the previous page that, to me, naming the console "Series X" makes me feel like in the next generation of Xbox, there will be different console versions to choose from - just like how in this generation, there were versions to choose from; Xbone, Xbone S, and Xbone X. One could call this the Xbone series of consoles just like the Xbox brand is a series, and that makes sense, but naming the next console itself with Series in the name adds confusion.

This is because, let's say the rumored Lockhart is real. It's not going to have Xbox Series X in the name at all, it'll probably be Xbox Series S or something. So what exactly makes the Series X a "series"? It's just one console, unless the Lockhart version is called Xbox Series X Lite but I don't think it will.

This gen the Xbone was a stupid name because there already was an Xbox one, and next gen (in my opinion) Series X is a stupid name because it is a console that is part of a series, the console itself is not a series that doesn't make sense at all. mS stopped thinking of sensible names after the 360.
which one are you leaning towards, XB?
If you were to ask me last year or two years ago, I would have been leaning towards next gen Xbox because I was really annoyed with how Sony was handling crossplay. But I voted Ps5 in the poll.

mS could potentially be boasting these numbers since casuals (kinda like me) can't read into it and need those more knowledgable to break down what they mean. Right now Series X on paper is perceived to be a powerhouse, and all we've heard about Ps5 are rumors both about it being weaker and stronger than the spec sheet we have for its competition.

And yeah as you said, dev kits never look like the finished product. The only one that bared a resemblance was the Ps2, which still did get an overhaul in the end.

I don't think either Sony or mS will have much luck in securing 3rd party exclusives. With the Yakuza games now on Xbone and the Digimon Story games on Switch, 3rd party exclusivity has really become a thing of the past.

As for FFS7R though, I heard that its development is a case similar to SV5, where the game could eventually come out on PC but not any other consoles outside of the playstation family.

I can 100% guarantee you that you that there will be nothing remotely close to an RROD problem for the Series X. There hasn't been for the Xbone either, I don't think. It's known to be the quietest console.

Interestingly enough, on a Twitter poll of over 50,000 votes, only 13% of gamers voted that exclusive games is what matters most

Eh, there are fewer than 20 people total that voted. Hell lower than 25, this poll so far doesn't have that much weight to it. At least not yet, if more people start to vote then it'll be more indicative.

But to really put things into perspective, if you look at social media, the full reveal of the Series X garnered about a million likes on instagram, whereas just the logo reveal of Ps5 garnered over 5 million

as you can see playstation also has twice the amount of followers as xbox does

Yes. There is this game called Godfall. While there isn't a release date for it, the target is Q4 2020, which is the same target for Ps5.

It's extremely probable that a Demon's Souls remake developed by Bluepoint will be a launch title for Ps5 too (but that's still unconfirmed).

Well then they just have to come out with some amazing exclusive games to convince me. I bought the Xbox360 instead of the PS3 because it had games like Dead Rising and Gears of War. If it's a situation like that again, I will certainly consider the new Xbox (unless it's very expensive)

Sony can get millions of people in the palm of their hands just by releasing a logo. Pretty bg
