Punisher 2 update

Maybe the new DVD sales will impact it. Trouble is, they barely advertised it (most stores don't even have it displayed in a noticable way.) It looks to me like LGF considers the Punisher a sidenote at this point.

While I liked the first film they really have to add more money to the budget and make it more stylized...more exciting and more violent where they actually show the gore more.

yea i want it so when they play it on FX theyll have no choice but to edit some stuff out...Kinda like what AMC does with Scarface.:woot:

It's gonna be a director tied to LGF which is why I think maybe Hayter or Roth might be involved in this one. If not it would be a director not attached to a big studio who'd do something like this. Hayter's been real quiet since Black Widow fell out.

Man, Eli Roth would make a really gory, ballsy Punisher movie. Although, he should stick to making "Hostel" sequels and other horror movies. I'd like David Fincher to pen/direct a Punisher movie.

Roth needs to stay as far away from the Punisher movies as possible. I like Roth's horror movies, but I don't think he's anything special.

I hope they make some sort of announcement soon...

Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) is definetly the guy for the job, and Johnny Messner for Jigsaw!

Running Scared was alright, but I don't want Frank spurring out mother-****er or ****ing **** every second like Paul Walker did.

Kramer's dream is to direct a Batman. Thats not to say that he couldn't do Punisher 2.

Funny bit on the Punisher 2 in Wizard magazine.

The Punisher: Extended Cut

The opening of “The Punisher” was originally supposed to feature Frank Castle in the heat of action in Kuwait. Cut for budgetary reasons, the lost scene has been resurrected by Punisher artist Tim Bradstreet and star Thomas Jane and is included in this DVD. Combining Bradstreet’s illustrations and Jane’s voice acting, this new animated opening gives viewers a glimpse of what might have been and an idea of what Castle went through during his tour of duty.

This new edition also includes an exclusive gallery of Punisher art and behind-the-scenes featurettes. All of this comes before the rumored “The Punisher 2,” which should begin filming sometime before the sun burns out, if we’re lucky.

I can't see why that's a problem, if he has an interest in doing comic book based movies then that is a good think. The current Batman series already has a director, the Punisher does not, and we already know he can make a brutal mobster/action movie.

Sorry, i made a mistake typing up that post.:O The words in my head didn't come out right.:woot: I actually meant to say; Thats not to say that he couldn't do Punisher 2.:cwink:

Oh, oops, I think that must have been me who misread that. Okay.

I actually hope they don't stylise it. The Punisher is about realism. I dont want him to engage in Matrix-like gunfights. He is a soldier. He fights like a soldier. He wears kevlar, takes cover while people shoot at him and he is vulnerable to bullets (unlike most action heroes who seem to be able to dodge bullets pretty easily despite the real world settings). But I do agree on the gore. Crank the gore up!!!:woot:

^ You can stylize something with realism. I'm not talking about all flash and no meat. I want something ultra-violent like Running Scared but with The Punisher. It's great to get the confirmation again that Hensleigh is not off the project. I found out about a month ago he was not "off" the project but wasn't sure if he was "on" or when it would happen. It's good to see he's more optimistic now. I can't believe the budget of the 1st was 15 million including the ad budget. That's crazy. So my comments below of needing 60 million were way off. Hell if they upped it to the 25-30 million range it would be fine and it'd make a profit.

Yeah just mentioned that in the post above yours. LGF is a low budget studio so no way around that. What did Saw cost? 4 million. LOL I disagree with the notion that Punisher doesn't deserve more than the budget it's getting cause it has a small audience? How big of an audience did Blade have? Look how those budgets rose with popularity until they screwed up Trinity. Still if they made the 1st one for 15, if they made one for 30 it'd be a huge improvement in the overall feel and look. You can tell when things are done on the cheap like that entire island scene in the beginning looked like footage from Mad Max.

That is a hell of a lot of information right there. Glad they're sticking to their guns about the plot occuring in NY.

Looks like he's still directing and writing(atleast again)

which means his script could still be used.

not saying Scorsese should direct, but I did like his tone and grittiness in the Departed for Punisher 2.

If any of you are familar with Robert Rodriguez, his stylized violent movies are pretty low budget as well.

Desperado: $7,000,000
From Dusk Till Dawn: $19,000,000
Sin City: $40,000,000

If Rodriguez can do it I'm sure Hensliegh can pull it off as well.
