G'day,

Ray Stevenson was perfect as the Punisher. Too bad the script was so ordinary.

Film Critic Hulk loved this movie and he's possibly the top CBM critic out there in terms of quality of insights.

The movie is also well liked by the posters on the dissolve, which is a high level film discussion site. It is the only film site ive seen where the discussion is so advanced that i have trouble following. So i take their word as having more merit.

For me this implies PWZ probably has gems to it the masses cannot see. I don't know if i'd be able to get it.

Punisher: War Zone was almost universaly hated, this is the first time i've heard about it being liked, and when it comes to self aware "trashy" films there are also many other better options for discussion that this film.

When it comes to films fanboys hated but critics loved, i think Superman Returns is a better example. I myself never went to Colider, so i don't know it, but are you sure they're not mentioning Punisher in an ironic way or as a guilty pleasure? I mean, places like 4chan pretty much hate on almost every film, but films like The Mummy are loved there due to either nostalgia or some "fun factor".

It's awful, but still a fun ride. I view it when I do my Marvel Marathons...

As time has gone by I've grown to love the Thomas Jane movie more and this one has gotten worse in my eyes.

Are you serious? Advanced discussion about this movie? It's a below average action flick with a villain so goofy that it's almost a parody.

I suggest you watch it yourself. It's only 1h40m long.

Yes i am serious.

However, it is not available on netflix australia so i will not be watching it.

There are also tens of thousands of good books, movies, tv shows, etc that i have not enjoyed and will likely never have time to enjoy.

I am currently working through Friday Night Lights.

Also, this movie is nowhere near 1 hour & 40 minutes. An hour & twenty is more like it, really ten or fifteen if you take out the beginning & end credits. It's a quick movie.

As for the rotten tomatoes score, we all have movies we like with low RT scores. If you always agree wuth RT, you are a sheep... but i doubt any of you always agrees with RT.

terrable film even though it is kind of more like the punisher of comics than 2004 film.
say what you want about 2004 film it's better than the crap that was war zone.

Not sure if you made a typo, but that phrasing implies you have multiple personalities disorder.

A consensus, by ddefinition, is never personal :-)

Cool story bro

Lol

Anyway, I posted the RT score because someone (DA Champion) mentioned that the critics loved this movie so I wanted to see if that was true...I certainly don't agree with RT all the time.

With that said, I don't really have a fully formed opinion of this movie. I've seen bits and pieces from it and it looked like a parody.

Saw it again on Netflix a little while back... Terrible.

I'm sure there is some amount of sexism to Lexi Alexander not landing certain gigs and all, but this isn't a great calling card either. Laawd.

Anyway, if the movie ever makes it onto netflix australia i will watch it based on the interesting mixed response.

I just did a quick google search.

There is an article on "CBM.com" about the movie's emerging cult following.

Devin Faraci gave the film an 8.5/10 on RT and said it kicks ass.

Enough for now.

Every **** movie has a cult following.

Interesting development, i knew Sucker Punch and Jupiter Ascending were getting a cult following, but didn't know Punisher war zone was. I myself liked the 2004 film a lot, war zone...not so much.

Every **** movie has a cult following.

I think most movies are just forgotten. See Conspiracy Theory, Eraser, Babylon AD, and The Last Airbender.

Sometimes cult followings win, i think starship troopers is the best example. It was derided as dumb **** when it came out, twenty years later it is a satirical masterpiece.

I referenced one critic who liked the movie.

Fine, if you wanna get technical.

:lmao:

Exactly. Just like Showgirls.

I'd love to read the "advanced discussion" that is taking place in that site in regards to this film. Can you provide examples DA Champion. I'm really curious.

Haha that's not entirely true, not every crappy movie has a "cult" following. I agree with the above statement...most of the time horrible movies are just forgotten with time.

The good:

They fixed his origin by having only his wife and son killed by the mob.

Lots of violence.

The Punisher outfit was great.

The bad:

Ray Stevenson can't hold a candle to Dolph Lundgren.

The story was terrible.

Frank Castle punching THOUGH a guy's face was awful! Just awful...
