the film is now less than a month away from being released and it has come a long way. it had a $20 million production budget.

the 04 punisher had a $33 million budget and went on to make about $33.7 million after opening to $13.8 million in its first weekend. keep in in mind that it opened up against kill bill 2 which was such a dumb move since that movie snatched $25 million that weekend. that was in april.

now punisher: war zone is set to hit theatres december 5th with no real competition on that date. there's been some controversy over the film being released in december, having originally been set for september. now there's just 4 weeks until we finally get to witness what should be the most faithful and best adaptation of the punisher yet on the big screen and the tv spots are coming along with lots of promotional crap.

the poll question is for how much the film make total at the box office in domestic figures only. what do ya'll think? chime in with what you think it might make on the opening weekend too. will it bomb or will it be a surprise hit? will it surpass expectations financially and warrant a sequel or will it disappoint and bury the character into obscurity for a few more years?

personally i think war zone has a good chance of being a success. i don't see the sequel/reboot issue being a big deal. i doubt tom jane's punisher is so fresh in most people's memory that they're going to go "wtf? that's not the punisher i know!" they're going to see that there's a new marvel/punisher film and its filled with crazy badass action and that's enough to get the average joe to the theater. with quantum of solace and transporter 3 being released in the weeks before war zone, people will be fresh off that adrenaline rush and in need of some more, and this movie will provide them with just that. with no tough competition on opening day, i think the film could make $15-20 mill opening weekend and go on to accumulate $30-40 million overall.

i shall end this with a quote from lexi alexander back from when the film was initially pushed back.

"They also moved our release date to December 5th, which is, according to my reps, a much, much better date. I myself would have thought that people will think twice about going to see an extremely violent movie the closer it gets to Jesus’ B-day, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or whatever other holy holiday you’re celebrating. Well, the box office records prove different and instead, all you sick ****s get more blood thirsty that time of year. (And I say that with lovingly affection, cause I’m relying on all the sick ****s to show up)."

Being released in December is definitely a toss up, but counter programming is like that. But yeah it does have a better chance then the 2004 film there's nothing on the level of Kill Bill go against.

It's hard for me to say, it might get a modest box office or make as much as the 204 film did on it's first weekend. If it was being released in any other month I'd say yeah it has a good chance of doing well, counter programming can bite you in the ass.

Can you edit it to make it a poll? That's what they usually do.

I'd go with something like 1-8 million, 9-15 million, 16-25 million, 26-35, 36-39 and 40+. Unless you think it can do better than all that domestically!

For me, I'd go with 36-39ish

I like your new avatar citizenpain by the way, pretty intense

gracias. i believe it was actually the first one i made when the red band trailer came out. that part just struck me as so badass and as you said pretty intense.

with the film such a short time away from being released now, everybody should head over to the official avatar thread and represent with a badass war zone avatar! :woot: maybe i'll make some more one of these days.

I've already got one going, so I'm good! I'm not a big fan of the moving ones for avatars my size anyways, there's not enough room to see what's going on. And I doubt I'll be racking up 450 posts in the next month...

I low balled it 16-20.
Yeah, I think it'll do more than that. I kind of high-balled it at 40, so I guess we'll even it out.

If it wasn't in December I could have gone 21-26, but like I said attempting to counter program is always a toss up.

I don't know. Well, 16-20 i think. I hope in much more!

I'm looking at $40 million domestic. Roughly what '04 did adjusting for inflation. About $20 million internationally.

I have never seen a trailer for this movie once at the movies and I go alot. I think it won't even make back the 20 million.

$36-42 million and that's being generous

If it does 51+ domestically I can pretty much guarantee a same-cast sequel. (At least, a sequel with the same Punisher, and maybe Microchip) Director may change though.

It hasn't shown up with a lot of movies. I haven't seen it at any, but I've heard it was with Max Payne and Saw V. The TV spot played with Smackdown! last night.

wasn't there a story out a while ago, or maybe it was in an interview, where it was stated that if there was a sequel, stevenson would stay on but lexi wouldn't direct it? not sure if it was anything official, but i swear i've read that before...

I think there was a Lexi interview where she said she wasn't sure she'd do the sequel if there was to be one.

It's sure Alexander don't direct the sequel. But Stevenson remain.

I see the movie doing good at the Box Office. But I see kicking ass on DVD and if Lexi come back that would be good,if she don't.She might just produce the next Punisher film and I know Ray is 100% coming back:)

I'm hoping I'm wrong,,,, I posted 21-26 million.

but I think it could make up to 30 million.

but the poor release of movie trailer for lions gate might hurt.

I figure if Max Payne can make 30 million the punisher could too.
if the Ad's increase on TV & the Box office this month.

I'm sorry to say,but only $1-$8 million, though I dream it makes maybe $30 million.

Oh, it HAS to make over 8 million. 8 million opening weekend I'd say, at least. I think it'll probably reach 30 million, but in my rather optimistic vote I went with 36-42. Anything beyond that would be MY dream.

This movie, despite how good it may be, is going to have a rough time at the BO I'm afraid.
The public has greater awareness of the character since '04, but the movie itself has no bankable stars to draw in the general audience. He was one of the worst parts of the movie, but at least '04 had Travolta's name to pull in a crowd.

personally I could care less. I just want a good Puny movie.

I can see alot of people is unhappy with the film's script from what i been reading. I just don't see why they couldnt hir Garth Ennis to be involved with coming up with the script. He knows the MAX series alot better than Lexi even will.
