Its not a matter of the 70mm version having different scenes but rather longer holds on the wide shots of the mountains and things.

In addition to featuring an overture and an intermission, the limited engagement will include six extra minutes of material.


“The roadshow version has an overture and an intermission, and it will be three hours, two minutes,” Tarantino told Variety. “The multiplex version is about six minutes shorter, not counting the intermission time, which is about 12 minutes.”


The two-time Oscar winner was not ordered to truncate the film for the Jan. 8 wider release. Rather, he liked the idea of the roadshow experience having a little something extra. “Nor did I want to treat the multiplex release like this left-handed version, either,” he said. So he tweaked certain scenes to better suit the separate viewing experiences.


“The 70 is the 70,” he said. “You’ve paid the money. You’ve bought your ticket. So you’re there. I’ve got you. But I actually changed the cutting slightly for a couple of the multiplex scenes because it’s not that. Now it’s on Showtime Extreme. You’re watching it on TV and you just kind of want to watch a movie on your couch. Or you’re at Hot Dog on a Stick and you just want to catch a movie.”

Yeah dragging the 70mm projectors out and finding a projectionist that can operate them is a very costly endeavor for a single film.

Yeah I just listened to that nerdist podcast last night. Once he gets going it's like a hurricane of film geek hysteria. Loved it.

Well, this is just getting more and more depressing.

From what he's described there aren't any scenes missing from the standard version but certain shots have been trimmed or shortened as they were only included to take advantage of the 70mm format.

I had a chance to see this early last night and I wont dare give away spoilers but I will say this SPOILER -FREE:

- The acting and dialogue are just top notch
- Kurt Russell still has IT and I wish he would do more roles
- The entire cast including a special cameo just work so well with each other
- The atmosphere/ cinematography are just breath taking and outstanding sound

the negative:

The story really drags honestly and I felt battle fatigue like I did watching inglorious bastards where the dialogue while great really wears you down as there is hardly any action in the film. I love dialogue and great characters but in a western by Tarantino I need some action and it was just too far in between here.

I would say if you can make it through the first 2 hours not bored then when the action does come you'll at least love it til the end.

I caved in and watched the leaked screener of this and wow it's another Tarantino classic.

I'd say 3 hours is maybe a tad too long as it did start dragging a bit but you just have to get through those part's. Kurt Russell was fantastic as was SLJ. Will see it on the big screen to see where it ranks on my Tarantino lsit but for now it's 9/10.

I still think pulp fiction and Django are his best. but that's just my opinion.
