Hi, I know that Jurassic Park was huge thing in 93, but can those of you who had the honor to lived and see it in cinemas tell me what the reaction back was then. Was there some kind of a mass hysteria over the film, was it the most talked about thing on the streets.

Back in 93 I was six, so I can’t remember anything.

Jurassic Park was all over the place in 1993. It was so popular that the film even got an NBA team named after the film (the Toronto Raptors) when they did a fan poll to determine the name of one of their new expansion teams. It was the biggest film phenomenon since ET.

i was in fifth grade when this came out. in the theatre, my mom and the old lady next to her were freaking the f*** out during the first t-rex attack. it was great.

Jurassic Park merchandise was flying off the shelves then. And I was part of that (was 7 at the time), getting all those toys and products.

I remember it being huge.

I would go as far as saying it was THE event movie of the 90's. You couldn't really escape the hype; you could go just about anywhere and see Jurassic Park advertised on something, and of you didn't, somebody near you was talking about it. That was a great time to go to the movies.

Pretty much this.

It was one of the first movies that I can remember that had a line going out the theatre and around the side for it.

Yep! The only other time I saw that was Star Wars: Episode I.

I was in middle school at the time. When we got to the theatre all I was thinking was "holy ****!" when I saw the line.

For Episode 1, a few friends talked me into waiting in line all day for it. There was only four people ahead of us. After seeing the movie I regret waiting that long.

I actually remember being able to buy it 1 day before official release, which was illegal for everywhere except Giant Eagle to do. So, I got my VHS copy a day early

At the theater, everyone loved it. It was everywhere.

I was five when it came out. It was the first live-action film I saw in theaters, and it was the film that began my fascination with cinema.

Steven Spielberg convinced a five-year-old that dinosaurs could live again. That first scene with the brontosaurus, coupled with John William's legendary score, stunned me to the core. I will never forget that moment.

This.

I remember getting a bunch of the toys and other merchandise, all of the kids talking about it in school and I remember going to see it twice and I remember the crowd reactions well. It was a rare, once-in-a-lifetime event movie.

I was 19 when it came out, and I think I saw it at least 4 or 5 times in the theater. They started showing it in theaters at 9pm the night before it opened, and we were at that first show. I remember there was a huge line for that show, and it was even crazier when we went back over the weekend to see it again.

The trailers hadn't really showed any of the major dinosaur stuff, and the Internet wasn't really around to spoil it all yet, so everyone basically saw everything for the first time in the movie theater. It was awesome.

I remember when I saw it the second time, when you saw them loading guns towards the end of the movie, the guy next to me yelled, "I don't care if you have a bazooka, you are not gonna kill one of those things!" :funny:

The first time I saw it, I remember the scene where Lex is hanging from the vent and the raptor jumps at her, that got a lot of jumps and gasps from the audience. :woot:

It's funny because I was 17 when it came out and although the hype was huge but not to the extent of Batmania in 1989.

I do remember the summer of '93 being crowded with JP and Last Action Hero which I thought would be the bigger hit of the two, as for the toys themselves what could I say I was 17 at the time and dinosaurs weren't my thing.

The movie itself was impressive and really made you believe that dinosaurs were real and John Williams memorable theme was awesome.

I remember when they had that long, loving pan of the Jurassic Park merchandise in the gift shop, someone in the audience yelled "MOI-CHINDISING!" like Mel Brooks in Spaceballs. :funny:

I just remember how the audience responded to everything...all the jokes got huge laughs, they were dead silent during the T-Rex scene, just like in awe of the whole thing. It was a lot of fun.

i gotta have to disagree with you there. Batman was HUGE in 1989, so Jurassic Park was in fact the biggest film since Burton's Batman. i was 8 at the time and remember i saw JP like 3 times in theater. it's amazing that to this day, the film still holds up so well and has even better CGI than some of today's films.

when the hell are we getting it on blu ray?

went to see it several times and the theater was crowded, the kids I took loved it and went to see it again when I could take them

I was three when it came out and I can remember the hysteria over it,

I remember when I fist saw it in 94 on VHS. It was THE greates thing a 7 yo kid can see. I was obsessed with Dinosaurs. Still have the Jurassic Park Sticker Album. :D

But was the JP mania bigger than the Titanic? I remember that here the Titanic mania was just monsterous. It was all over Bulgaria. TV, Cinemas, Newspapers. Everywhere.

Considering that Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time, there is one thing that can be said of this film.

On June 11, 1993, for the first time in 65 million years, real dinosaurs walked the Earth again and left millions in awe.

I was a solid two years of age when this came out. However, I remember everything. The trailers, hell, if I dig it up, I can still find all the merchandising I had...except some of the toys I lost....I still to this day own the JP : Interactive 3DO game...wish I could play it. :csad:

It was different. Titanic was crazy, but that was mostly teenage girls who saw it over and over and over again. Plus that bloody song was playing on a loop on the radio non-stop, and then it won a bunch of Oscars. It was all over the place, and everyone saw it, but didn't seem the same as when Jurassic Park came out.

There were pretty much 3 huge event movies in the 90s that made huge bucks

93 - Jurassic Park

96 - Independence Day (people forget how huge this really was)

98 - Titanic

When JP came out, IIRC it became the highest grossing movie of all time.

A user on this forums also named himself after Jurassic Park :o

It's my fav movie of all time too! woohoo!

I still have the board game and some of the toys... :woot:

I remember I saw it in the theaters and my Mom literally screamed at the T-Rex attack along with half the theater, which in turn scared the **** out of little four year old Nirvana. I had so many of the toys...

By the way, to this day, Jurassic Park is still my favorite movie of all time.
