Question for the older fans: Jurassic Park

TLW is better for two reasons only. Jeff Golblum and Ian Malcolm.

His frustration with the satellite phone never gets old.

"Eddie... why in the hell... doesn't this thing ever work??"

Pete Postlethwaite is better than anything in Jurassic Park 3 too.

Come on...you gotta admit that as he was looking back it would have been awesome if 100 compys came out of no where, jumped on him, and then feasted on his body:awesome:

Alright. I admit it. I liked that scene in the book.

True. But JP3 has the distinction of not being based off a book, so I was less pissed when I saw JP3 than TLW.

I love both TLW and III. I mean both movie had a lot of flaws, but they were great entertainment.
Agreed. They were both equally good and enjoyable. As good as the first? Defenitely not (IMO), but still good.

So, breaking box office records and making $500 million in merchandising is nothing?
Just not as big as Jurassic Park and the other movies that were bigger. Being #49 on the adjusted list is great...but not greater than the 48 movies in front of it.

Jeff Goldblum could improve a lot of movies with his presence.

I grew up on this movie. Didn't see it until I was 4 years old at a friends house in 1994.

You can't look at things so black & white. Before VHS, movies were in theaters for a LONG time and had countless re-releases. Gone with the Wind isn't #1 because it grossed a ridiculous amount of money in 1939. It's because it was in and out of theaters for the next 40 years.

The thing that pissed me off about TLW as a kid was that the book was pretty much written as a sequel to the first movie, rather than the first book, and yet the movie still was totally different. lol

Still, Roland Tembo was a badass. The deleted scene where he fights a dude with one hand tied behind his back was awesome. IIRC they actually re-inserted that scene in the movie for a little extended cut that was shown on FOX TV.

I hated that extended cut. It ruined the beginning where the woman screams and it suddenly cuts to Jeff Goldblum. I always thought that was hilarious. Instead, we got some stupid board room scene.

That's all we've got to go by. Pretty fair in this case since Batman 89 was released before JP. Being #49 all time certainly isn't an insult. But it's still not going to be held up as more successful than the movie in the #18 spot that came out just 4 years later.

There is also something about GWTW that people forget. It wasn't put into theaters over and over because it came out in 1939....it was put into theaters over and over because people wanted to see it. When it was shone on TV for the first time in the 70s, it set the all time ratings record too. It's not like the studios picked a random movie and forced the public to keep paying to see it. A lot of other movies came out back then. You'll note GWTW is one of the few from that era to rank on the all time list. The 1970s actually have the most movies on the adjusted top 100 list.

Again, we're talking about hype. Titanic was a mega hit, but who really got "hyped" for that movie except teenage girls? Hype and success are two different things. To say that Jurassic Park was the most hyped movie since E.T. or Return of the Jedi is incorrect.

In order to say something is "incorrect"....doesn't it have to be proven?

Do we have a chart that shows how much "hype" a movie got? Do we even have an agreed upon definition of that? If you mean like the hype Snakes on a Plane got then that certainly isn't anything to brag about. It was exaggerated hype that didn't turn out to be real when people started buying tickets. If Batman 89 was "hyped more" (we don't even know how to measure that) and sold way less tickets than JP....that's not a good thing.

was it the green and black one with the slit in its stomach to take the action figures back out? because I totally have that, still to this day chilling on the top of one of my shelves. its one of few things from my childhood I've kept because it is seriously one of my favorite things I have ever owned.

YES it is!!!! I lost mine a long time ago and I wish I still had it as a collectors item. I remember getting it for Christmas along with The Lost World on VHS. O the memories! Lol

I love when Julliane Moore is getting too close to the dinosaurs, and he's saying "She can't not touch!" :funny:

I saw Jeff Goldblum at the opening of a Broadway show not too long ago. Some guy in the crowd watching the red carpet yelled "JURASSIC PARK!!!" It was pretty funny.
