Seriously, Thanos has some of the best lines for a movie villain. Some people say he was generic in Endgame. But not me. He was as great as in IW.

I think that people confuse "not being treated by the narrative as the protagonist" as "generic". Which is not just an Endgame thing, I feel like that is a far too common response. I somewhat blame the Sopranos, in terms of normalizing the use of villain protagonists, but its probably much broader and older in origin. Any villain portrayal will feel "weak" if you are expecting the villain to get the full narrative focus of the story, after all.

( Well, or they fell for Thanos' pitch and were shocked and offended that the megalomaniacal villain was actually treated by the story as a megalomaniacal villain. )
