R.i.p. Trl

Here in the u.k. we have:
MTV
MTV Base
MTV2
MTV Flux
MTV hits
TMF ( The music factory)

and they hardly have any music. TMF now shows 'brand new' Ally Mcbeal, Wonder years and Cheers.

TRL was good for like a year. Then, the pre-teen girls discovered it and pretty much ruined the show. :cmad:

Well, there is that, yes. :o But, c'mon....VH1 is now the home of the Headbanger's Ball. If you'd told me that would be the case back in the mid-80's I'd probably have punched you in the face.

jag

That's awesome, my new favorite quote!

anyone remembers when TRL was called Dial MTV?

I'm glad it's gonna be gone. :D

All TRL is for now is, exposing and promoting celebrities who are already over-exposed.

TRL died for me back in 1999.

TRL died the moment it stopped being about the music...seriously, lol.

Remember back in the day when there was no studio audience and it was just Carson Daly and the 10 videos were shown in COMPLETION! THAT was TRL.

The moment they resorted to the studio audience and showing only 30 second clips of the videos (even the #1 video)...that's when it was over for me.

TRL just annoys the heck out of me. All you get to see is 10 seconds, then some screaming girl sends a "shout out" and then 2 more seconds of video. UGH!

(By the way, I am not new. This is Spider-Grrl1516. I created a new account. I'm not using S-G1516 anymore. I doubt anyone cares, I just wanted to give a heads up.)

Are you talking about his primetime show? Because TRL was always a studio audience program. What happened at the beginning was that no one cared, so the audience was almost non-existant.

In the very beginning, TRL (or whatever the early incarnation of TRL was called) consisted simply of Carson Daly standing in that studio alone, in front of that television montior and introducing the videos from 10-1. I believe there were a few instances when he would answer a call from a viewer but for the most part the show was simply of Daly and the videos.

After it started to gain some steam, that's when they started the studio audience and the shoutouts etc.

Least, that's what I remember.

And those late night phone-in quiz shows. I miss the good old days of late night videos.

Thank god for youtube.

(me + wii + wii web browser + youtube = no sleep :csad: )

TRL sucked for the most part. I'm not sad

(By the way I'm not new. This is farmerfran -- just pointing it out to everyone to make it obvious I'm not seeking attention)

TRL? The same show that had "The Bum Bum Song" at #1, propelled the boy band era, and didn't even play the full videos on their "video countdown show"?

Not funny. I just wanted people to know it's me. Nobody probably cares, I just wanted to give a heads up so they don't treat me as if I'm new.

Take a joke, I'm just ribbing ya.

Speaking of ribs, I'm watching "TCM: The Beginning" right now..
