It finally happened. My Xbox 360 received a "one quadrant ring of death" this morning. ERROR 74 to be exact. And of course, it's not included in the three year warranty so I bought an arcade with my Christmas money...

I attached my HDD and recovered my GT so XBL works.

If anyone knows how to fix the error 74, please help me. I'd love to know. I was going to throw it out but I might as well try to fix it. =/

That's weird...I just got that today as well but I restarted it a couple of times and it worked. It's supposed to do with the cables, isn't it?

If you cant get it to work just go trade it in at Gamestop, you'll at least get something outta it credit wise

I bought my Xbox 360 at Best Buy with a 3 year warranty from Best Buy. My 360 got the rings of death about 2 years later. I brought it in. They let me take a new 360 right off their self and switch hard drives right there. And since the price had gone down since I bought it they gave me $50 back. Seriously get a Warranty. It's worth it.

I also got a 3 year warranty from Best Buy, and I hope I will never have to use it. But it's nice to know that your Xbox is at least ensured for the next 3 years. With BB, you can get your replacement fast, unlike Microsoft which will probably take a week or two to send yours back.

yup my little brothers broke a few weeks ago, got the red rings, they only last about 2-3 years tops, wasn't made to last :)

:(

*cries*

It happened on Christmas day for me. All of the sudden, black textures and lines started appearing out of no where while I was playing COD4. I took pictures with my cell phone for future reference.

Anyway, my dad had a spare cable and that fixed the issue for a while. A few days later though, an error appeared randomly. I'll post pics of my screen in a few.

yeah, it happened to me again today...and then went away again. maybe it's just a warning towards the rrod? :(

These are early signs of the error 74.

Funny you post this up, I just got my red ring last night. But I was "lucky" enough to get the 3 flashing lights, so I get a new one.

I was playing COD4 and a grenade killed me and that instant, it froze.

To me, those look like artifacts. I had a similar problem on my PC a few years ago when my graphics card overheated. So considering the same happened during an intense graphics experience, I'd guess the same happened here.
