Race to Witch Mountain

Unless they're changing the story significantly, that is, removing the mystery, they're giving away a major surprise right there on the poster. I don't have a lot of faith in this project.

Race tWM isn't going to be a remake of Escape tWM. From what I've read about the movie so far, while it does share some story elements, Race is more like a sequel story.

Kent Allard -- That is exactly it. They are taking this classic story and retelling it with modern computer graphics and new actors. I think it is cool because obviously they are capable to do so much more now with technology and action sequences. I think it is really going to be a fun movie to watch.

Yeah, I see that in what I read about it as well. Lame.

Not to big on this, and I'm more of a fan of the Dwayne as a wrestler. But I will be taking both of my nieces to see this since they wanted to see it when they saw the trailer. I mean I'm not the disney crowd but I saw bolt also haha.

I was watching some of the trailers and clips from this movie and I found this sweepstakes that I entered. You watch 3 videos and then answer 3 quick questions and that's it! It worked out since I was watching the clips already. Once you answer the questions correctly, you are entered for a trip to Vegas. I could use that!

Just saw 6 new clips from the movie. Looks good and I can't wait until it comes out next week. Dwayne Johnson is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend. I think he will do a good job and am pretty excited to see him host.

He needs to stop with that Dwayne Johnson crap...that mother****er is The Rock, and that is how I am going to refer to him.

Call him what ever you want, but it looks like he is certainly a crowd pleaser. Race to Witch Mountain opens today and the film is already getting excellent early reviews from critics. They highlight Johnson's ability to combine sci-fi with comedy and produce a movie an audience of all ages can enjoy. I look forward to see the upcoming projects he sets in line for himself.

Review from The Hollywood Reporter:
"...it's entertaining with a crafty mixture of action, humor and drama. Coming on the tripped-up heels of a mediocre concert movie featuring a youth band lacking in spontaneity, "Witch Mountain" goes a long way toward re-establishing Disney's grasp on a youth market that seemed to be slipping away from the studio. Boxoffice should be strong well into Easter weekend."

Dwayne..err..The Rock would have benefited if he cast into Stallone's Expendables. However, looks like Steve Austin beat him to the punch!

I'm seeing it with my mother-in-law this weekend...seems like it'll be enjoyable at the very least.

still wish he would have become the next big action star though. :/

I suspect this will hit number one. Last House on the Left is more of a thriller torture porn, not horror, so fans might go in expecting something different.

Saw this yesterday, and it's a fun movie. Basically the classic Disney stuff you'd get in the 70s type of thing. It's PG, but pretty violent, to be honest. And the alien bounty hunter, when he takes off that mask, zoinks.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday. But yeah, Dwyane or the rock whatever you wanna call him. He kicks alot of arse in this film. he's punching and beatng up guys left and right.

and the line after he gets the bounty hunters mask off is something you hear arnold say to the predator. He goes " You should have left the mask on"

I think after seeing Get Smart and now Race To Witch Mountain i believe that Dwayne or The Rock will be close to hitting that really big film like Arnold did and will be the action star we know he is. He did a goo bit of action in Witch Mountain and i believe its his best movie so far even if it a disney movie. My favorite was The Rundown but The Rock is a better actor since then.
Dwayne likely never got a call from Sly on that movie for they know The Rock is a bigger price tag so they went too Austin who has a big fan fallowing but Cheaper on price.
I really like too see The Rock and Stone Cold do a movie together like they are cops or something.

The Rock is still finding his right role so I don't think he's 'there' yet where people will remember him from years to come.

I was saying he is getting better acting wise and may not be that far from a slew of that one big hit or several big hit movies. Really though Rock movies make a klling on dvd really.

but i don't think he'll hit that 'action star' status that people wanted him to be. Those days are over, and he found a niche for himself..kids movies. Even with the success, this probably isn't what what I thought he would be doing 5 years ago.

i'm not saying he's a failure but I'm saying that he's like this missed opportunity. I think he was born in the wrong era since the 80s was the 'action star' era.

On his own, The Rock is an okay actor. It depends on the material.

Race to Witch Mountain 4.5/10 (General): 6.5/10 (For kids): 5.5/10 Overall

Easily the worst movie I've seen this year. This movie was hard to watch at times. It's cute, and somewhat charming, but it's also sad; The Rock didn't have a whole lot to work with...Neither did any of the other names...The plot was ridiculously flimsy and had tons of holes. The SFX were some of the cheesiest I've seen in many years, and the movie seems like it wasn't even trying to create a movie for anyone other than little kids.

So, if you're over 14, please...don't.

I respectfully dissagree and feel Race To Witch Mountain besides Taken was one of the better movies so far this year. In a small way i enjoyed it more then Watchmen. Mostly because alien and sci-fi stuff is top of my geek list over some comic stuff. In my case i liked the original but feel this was way better a desent remake.

This is how I've broken the year down so far...

Thumbs Up

**** A to A+ (Great - Highly Recommended - See Immediately)
*Pending*

***1/2 A- to B+ (Very Good - Recommended - See at a First Run Theater)
"Watchmen"

*** B to B- (Good - Recommended with Minor Reservations - See at a Matinee or a Second Run Dollar Theater)
"Coraline," "Taken"

Thumbs Down

**1/2 C+ to C (Fair - Very Cautiously Recommended with Major Reservations - Wait for DVD)
"The Last House on the Left," "The International"

**C to D+ (Disappointing - Not Recommended - Wait for Cable TV)
"Underworld: Rise of the Lycans," "Race to Witch Mountain"

*1/2 D to D- (Very Disappointing - Strongly Not Recommended - Wait for Free TV if Nothing Else is On)
"Push"

* F(Awful - Very Strongly Not Recommended - Avoid at All Costs)
"Friday the 13th," "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li"

------

I didn't bother with "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" or "Confessions of a Shopaholic" because they both look absolutely awful.

Maybe I would've had to be "into" the original in order to really find something special in this movie...

I think the Rock improvement in his acting shows in this movie comapred too Scorpion King or Rundown really.
