Racism/Bullying in Schools

Another problem is when someone is being bullied fights back to defend themselves they are caught up in the "equally" responsible trap of daring not to be a victim. So either you accept the abuse or you fight back and are punished for it.

A no win situation for many kids in that situation.

Whenever I was bullied, I always defended myself so it didn't happen too often (because the hell if I was going to let some ******* run over me) but it still happened occasionally and naturally the teachers would pretend nothing happened until just before someone threw a punch then suddenly speak up and say something.

Even then being someone who stood up to that I still have my issues from dealing with people who think "bullying" is acceptable and try to defend it or did/do it themselves.

These people who think bullying is healthy but are quick to punish the kids being bullied for standing up for themselves are the absolute worst though.

If my kid gets bullied I will start by sending a letter of warning to the parents that if the situation continues I will take legal actions against them. :)

I got attacked a couple of times by black kids for being white. But that's about it. Race relations were pretty crappy in the school I went to. All the white kids sat at one table, all the blacks at another. Even the athletes who played on the same team. The only real exception seemed to be the nerds. Many of the worst bullies were other white kids though.

Being a foreigner, most kids regardless of race sort of gave me the shaft.

I think most bullying today has relatively little to do with race though. High school is really where psychopaths thrive.

Surprisingly, high school is where things started to turn around for me. I experienced very little to no bullying, and even made a lot of friends. Most if not all of my bullying days took place pre-high school. Middle school was the worst though.

When I was at a christian school I got attacked by guys bigger than I was in front of the teachers and because they were family of teachers there they didn't even get detention. They just told them to stop and then left.

Yea I went to two different high schools. The high school I spent my freshman and sophomore years, was in the country sort of racist this was from like fall 2002 to summer 2004. The cafeteria was really segregated like it was like the 1930's or something. But I remember this big white kid who was known to be racist to kids who weren't white messed with the wrong black dude. He called the kid the N word loudly and a few teachers heard but didn't do anything at first. The black kid beat the day lights out out him to the point where he had to leave school and go to the ER. He came back to school a few weeks later and never acted racist again lol. Bullies just need a good beat down to make them change their ways.

Too bad instant karma doesn't always occur.

The world would be a much better place.

Physical wounds can be healed but emotional abuse will affect someone later on in life i.e self-confidence, self doubt, stress etc. which is far more damaging psychologically.

Bullies feel the need to be mean to other to assert their dominance, but if you think of it, if you're truly happy why would you have all these ugly thoughts. Something must be missing in their lives.

I remember back when I was 8, I was invited to a classmate's birthday party. At the party, there was a tall and buff 8-year old (or whatever constitutes being "tall" and "buff" when you're 8) who kept picking on a shorter, scrawnier, wimpier-looking kid. It got to a point where the scrawny kid looked him dead in the eyes and said "If you don't leave me alone, I'm going to crack your skull." The bully was like "Hahahah, there's no way a tiny twerp like you could ever crack my skull."

Then I left the room for a few minutes to go to the bathroom. When I got out, the bully's mom came to pick him up. Right then, the bully got out of the room we were in...with a forehead covered in blood, blood dripping on the floor (adults had to clean the floor after), and his eyes welling with tears. The first and only thing he said was "MOMMY! HE CRACKED MY SKULL!"

Back then I couldn't process what just happened, but whenever I look back on it now I laugh my *** off. :lmao:

I remember there was always a pack like mentality at my highschool. Unpopular white kids would constantly get picked on by black kids. They would be called "cracker" and well other words I can't say here. The bulled kids would just take it, but you could see they were always a step away from tears. I saw this happen in reverse to, where a few of the popular white girls would pick on a black girl that wears glasses. They would make racist *erm* jokes like "Why do you even wear glasses? Black people can't read anyways." :down

Fast forward to 2008 and our first black President. I know we have high racial tensions from different views on the police state in America. I do see progress though. It took a lot of white people to vote Obama into Presidency after all. I think the nation has changed for the better in some ways over last 8-10 years

But I fee lot of the aggression towards Obama, from some Republicans and conservative folks, stem from a form of racism, be it conscious or sub-concious. My theory is that if Obama was white and had the same policies, right would still be against him but a lot less abrasive. Less 'Oh he was born in Kenya. Where's his birth certificate', which is something that I don't get. Is it because he's not white, and his name is too foreign sounding? Like if I became president, with me being Asian, I should expect that same sort of treatment? It's something that should not be tolerated.

I see politicians purposely using Obama's race to cause more dissension. If he was white they would be finding anything they could use against him. In this case it's playing off of racism which is really bad. I'm not saying everyone should agree with Obama's politics or have to accept him. I just see a lot of it as ridiculously over the top and stupid

I think they are playing off of nationality and religion more than racism. The idea of a foreign non US President that is actually a Muslim. As a person with both foreign and Muslim family members, I don't understand why this would be a negative to SOME on the right. I know not all from that side agree with those tactics.

Yeah that's why I get bothered when older folks can't see how or why it's worse now than before.

Like what you just stated, the kids who get picked on no longer have protection. Back in the day, the protection is the comfort of your own house, but now bullies can publicly humiliate victims online, via social media and youtube.

Yeah that's true . Its been more xenophobia than racism.

I have personally had to debate this with someone who fits that description. They truly believed all the lies and misinformation told to them and no amount of counter evidence would suffice. They were certain Obama was a Kenyan Muslim who was going to ruin the country.

They were also certain that he was going to cause the country to shutdown and the economy to collapse to the point of stocking up on emergency supplies (which in reality was thanks to the Republican do-nothing government shutdown a few years ago) as if the world were coming to an end.

Obviously that failed to happen and I have been very careful to avoid bringing it or anything else to do with politics up because it is one of two things I've found really rile people up (the others being religion). Nothing more was said after the country failed to end and the government started to disfunction as normally.

The pervasive lies and manipulation in politics today had literally gotten what was an otherwise sane, sensible person worried that everything was going to end, and they could not see that it was the very people who were lying to them that were causing the perceived threat.

I can believe that if there is ever a 3rd generation Chinese-American who became president, you'll get people saying crap like 'He has ties to China. He's gonna bring down capitalism and democracy!'

Cyber bullying can be solved by turning off the computer.

It depends on what you mean by "cyber bullying". Certain things won't undo any damage done to you just by turning off the computer (like someone leaking embarrassing information of you on the internet, for example).

Yeah, there's loads of nasty websites deep in the web dedicated to ruining lives. It goes beyond bullying. It's falt out harassment.

I remember always being the victim of bullying in school when I was a kid mainly for being fat.

I went to three high schools and with the exception of the last school, I was constantly picked on by the black kids; the teachers and the kids who weren't black either showed me respect or didn't bother me at all. It wasn't until Columbine happened (I was a sophomore at that time) was when everyone suddenly started to keep their distance from me.

Because I was quiet and withdrawn and kept to myself aka "weird", many people thought I would possibly do something like that.
