Random Comic Stuff

I always wanted to find out more on Marvel's GA characters. Thats why im reading Invaders. In the latest issue, the original Torch, talks about Toro, his sidekick.

If you like the current Invaders book, you should really check out some back issues of the original Invaders title from the 70's. You can get most of them for a reasonable price. Hell, you might even be able to get them for cheaper than the $2.99 that they sell the current series!

Gambit, just in case you were in a good mood today:Soon Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley will have broken Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's record for longest run on a comic book.

Which is an easy record to break if you are RIPPING OFF the previous record holders work!

:p

He did 300 issues.

writing AND drawing. he decreed back when the book first started that he would do 300 issues and never miss a month, because he felt that independent books couldn't gain credibilty for themselves because the creators where lazy and didn't meet monthly deadlines

Technically after the first dozen or so issues, Dave only did the character drawing and Gerhard did the backgrounds, but your point still stands.

The last 200 issues were just "kill me" written over and over, weren't they?

actually, alot of it was some really questionable stuff about women, being that sim went through a long and painful divorce in the 80s. he had a sizable female audience, and he lost them with that stuff

I really like this quote from Paul O'Brien over at Ninth Art.

Yes, if you've ever longed to see superhero comics degenerate into even more of an inwards-looking, self-obsessed circle-jerk than before, this is going to be your year! You want innovation? Well, you're in the wrong place. Go read a book or something.

2004 - the year of steady progress, anticlimax, and rampant mediocrity. Sure to be remembered for years to come as the one between 2003 and 2005. Could have been worse, I suppose. At least I don't have to read Chuck Austen comics any more.

Go read the whole article, it's actually pretty fun.

Great article. Creatively bashing Marvel without having to mention Quesada, Bendis and the lot. This guy is right on about Marvel's recent history of (as he puts it) "a renewed fascination for Big Events, we've also got a deluge of X-Men titles on the market (most of which aren't selling), yet more swiftly-cancelled revivals of old C-list hasbeens (IRON FIST, for god's sake), and a general dearth of anything new, imaginative or interesting."

That and the part in the article about Marvel not having created an enduringly popular superhero within the last 20 years is right on the money.

I have to agree with this guy - 2004 wasn't really too memorable from an industry side - but that doesn't mean Hawkeye should have been killed either!

I don't know if people know it or not, but Will Eisner recently had quadruple bypass heart surgery and after coming through it OK he is recovering.

If people want to send Get Well cards and whatnot to him, his address is:

Will Eisner Studios, Inc.
8333 West McNab Road,
Suite 131
Tamarac FL 33321

I'm going to send one because honestly, without this man comics would not be as good as they are today. He's a pioneer in the art of graphic storytelling and lead the way with some of the greatest graphic novels ever written.

If you can, send him a card.

Wow, I didnt know about that. Ill definately send a card over to him.

I betting a lot of people don't. It didn't get much coverage. Apparently Will didn't want people to know until after it was over.

Yeah, too bad the major news channels cant step away from the war in Iraq and holiday shopping and the dropping economy, to report something like this.

Hey everyone, I'm about to read Avengers Forever after hearing Unthinkable praise it endlessly, and I still need to get runaways :(

Um...

I think he was talking about, like, maybe it shoulda appeared in Wizard or something

Still, would it be so hard to devote 10 seconds to report something like this?
