Here are my rankings.
1. Alien - So original! The best cast and acting out of all of these films. It's really the best constructed of all of them.
2. Aliens - One of the best action films of all time. It's a masterpiece as well. Honestly, I waver back and forth between slot one and two. Sometimes I prefer one more that the other but the gap between how much like them is so minimal that they are almost interchangable.
3. Predator - Still a good flick and one of Arnold's best. The originality of Stan Winston is what makes it such a winner.
4. Alien 3 - This was the first Alien movie I was old enough to see in the theater. I remember I just did not like it...and I think that is mainly because of the downer ending. I have since matured and this movie has grown on me to the point that I really appreciate it.
5. Predator 2 - Fun, really over the top violence. The Predator was at his most Bad-ass in this movie. It's a balls out action movie..not anything more redeeming than that. But that can be fun.
6. AVP-R - I was very surprised. The Strause Bros treated the creatures with the respect they deserve. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They took the action and gore of the Predator movies and slammed it against the horror and intensity of the Alien films. Sure, human element was very lacking...but this one showcases the cretures with great respect to the source material. I agree with those that say this movie is at least in line with the Pred movies. In fact, I would say that spots 5 & 6 are interchangable for me as well.
7. AVP - Well, it treated the creatures like a kids movie. Best I can say is that the effects were decent. The look of the Predators was disapointing too.
8. Alien Resurrection - I literally get pissed when I think of this film. It was a great concept for a sequel...it just really screwed the pooch. It doesn't feel like an Alien movie. It's like someone tried to make a comedy out of Aliens. I really can't say anymore without just going off.
Honestly, the only two that I flat out don't like are slots 7 & 8. The rest, I could watch anytime.
