Rise of Skywalker has risen a lot in my esteem since that first viewing. The Force Awakens has continued to fall, sadly. A few years ago, I would have ranked it below Star Wars but above The Phantom Menace. The Last Jedi kind of retroactively tainted it a little for me. It failed to live up to the promise that The Force Awakens showed, and consequentially, TFA itself ultimately ends up feeling unsatisfying. TROS was an admirable but not totally successful course correction. The sequel trilogy is a hot mess I think history will judge it very poorly. And justifiably so.

Seeing people ranking Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones above The Force Awakens is just...I can't believe they mean it. My personal opinion is that you must be messed up in the head to do this. I will understand to rank the original trilogy in top 3, but to have anything from the prequels above TFA is just laughable.
