Ranking the Indiana Jones Series

  1. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade
  2. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

When 5 comes here it'll be interesting to see where people tend to rank it. As one of the few TOD fans I'd love for it to be the best since TOD.

A few months late, but that's a great defense of TOD:bow:

Thank you. Not every scene in every movie has to be a commentary on race relations or cultural differences. It bugs me that a movie as fun and exciting as TOD gets such a bad rep because of some buttheads nitpicking at every little thing in the film.

It also doesn't help that for years it's been one of those movies that's cool to hate on, only increased by obnoxious internet critics like The Nostagia Critic.

Sad thing is I actually like The Nostalgia Critic's reviews. Even when I don't agree with his opinions (I loved Independence Day and The Matrix for example), his reviews are often quite entertaining.

But yeah, I never understood why it was considered cool to hate TOD. It's an exciting and fun movie. That's all its supposed to be. Just enjoy the wackiness and stop trying to tear the movie down.

Temple of Doom is dope I didn't realize it was getting crapped on

TOD still gets hated on a lot even with KOTCS in the mix. Heck, sometimes I see it more disliked than Skull.

Recently did an Indy marathon again. My order is release order.

Raiders>>>>>>Temple>Crusade>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Crystal Skull.

I actually think Crystal Skull is alright up until they meet up with Marion. That's where the movie just goes downhill. And I'm not saying it's because of Karen Allen, that's just where the movie happens to take a nosedive into mediocrity and stupidity.

1) Temple of Doom (Yes, I know it's weird to have as my #1 but I love how corny this is)
2) Raiders of the Lost Ark
3) Last Crusade
4) Crystal Skull

I keep going back and forth with Temple of Doom. I liked it several times, but a few others I found it difficult to keep watching. I don't know. It has some good parts but most of the time I just want them to leave that damn cave.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Last Crusade
Temple of Doom
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Isn't it weird that if they wanted to (and if he wasn't retired, and his character wasn't dead), they could have Sean Connery as Indy's father again?

I'm sure in the year 5 would take place in Jones, Sr. would be dead by then, which is unfortunate.

Honestly, I've never gotten the love for TOD. It was my least favorite of the Indy's since I was a little kid.

I don't think it's horrible or bad, but it's definitely the weakest of the three to me. And the silliest. I still greatly prefer it over KCS, but I do think that many of the things people freak out about in KCS were present in TOD.

Ironically, the person who you claim hated on TOD best outlined why I think TOD is still superior to the fourth film: While it is filled with many silly moments and ridiculous OTT scenes...it commits to them. It goes balls to the wall, up the amp to 11, full bore on the crazy. KCS was trying to be a little bit of everything and ended up failing at all of it.

But Crusade is full of numerous silly and OTT moments that people always give a pass to. How about:

- The prologue with young Indy where he gets his chin scar, whip, fedora, fear of snakes and his love of relic-hunting all in one afternoon. Not to mention how he escapes from a moving train using a magic box he had no knowledge of how to use. This makes the raft stunt in TOD look plausible.

- The revolving fireplace.

- Indy tumbling down the hidden staircase and shouting out "Daaaad!" in such a comical way. And then there's the "Scottish lord" disguise.

- The plane in the tunnel.

- The pen ink squirting in the eye.

- The centuries-old Grail Knight (for me probably the single most unbelievable, out there moment in the entire series)

Not to mention the comical antics of Brody and Sallah, which for me are a way worse offender than Willie or Short Round or even Mutt. People always rag on the raft stunt or the fridge, yet they always give a pass to TLC's equally ridiculous and silly stuff. TLC went for straight-up slapstick. TOD wasn't without humor and it's share of OTT moments sure, but TLC cranks it up to the Nth degree. In many ways it paved the way for KOTCS which it shares a lot in common with, both are the more comical, OTT Indy movies.
