Of the choices I said Average. But I'd have picked below average, more accurately.

It's between average and bad.

I'd have voted between average and bad... something like 'not so good'.

I don't hate all of the movie.

But I can't even rate it as average, because there are more things about it I dislike than your average Superhero movie.

I would've voted between average and bad had there been an option, so I went with average. There are a few things I do like about the film, mostly the actors and the action before the final battle took it too far. Those few redeeming qualities keep the movie from being total garbage, like Green Lantern or NolanKnight Rises.

Sorry guys,I cant add an extra option to the poll for between Average and Bad.

If you feel its below Average,Simply choose Bad.

MOS is a thoroughly average movie. When I first saw it, I thought it was 7/10, but now I feel like its more like a 6.

Choppy storytelling, characters I don’t really care about, action scenes that become boring after a certain amount of time, and a movie that reeks of desperately trying to do things different than the previous Superman origin film. This film, along with “Amazing Spider Man”, is an example of how you DON’T do a reboot.

This movie is already one of the most overrated CBM’s today, and easily the most overrated Superman film. I do think there are fans who legitimately believe this is a good film. But I also think there are a lot of fans who think this movie is good solely because it’s the first Superman film to represent “Modern” Superman, the Superman a lot of fanboys grew up with.

I feel like this is a Superman movie for people who don’t actually like Superman. This doesn’t feel like much of a Superman film to me. This feels like a film about a Superman pastiche rather than the real deal.

Well I don't think its bad. I think it's more below average. It's got some good stuff in it that saves it from being bad.

Excellent, for the experience it gives me every time I watch it. Is it perfect? No. Are there some things I would have done differently? Yes. But the same could be said about every comic book movie, yes even The Avengers and GOTG. I loved MOS, it's the Superman movie I've wanted to see for decades, and I'm stoked for BvS and the rest of the DC Cinematic Universe.

F*** the haters.

Spot on.
It's definitely below average, but I hesitate to call it "bad".
It get's a free pass from a lot of people, more so than some other movies, because it's what they have wanted to see for years. That's fine, but I think it's a stretch to pretend this is in the upper-echelon of superhero films in general.

Very good. I enjoyed it. Would probably rate it 7.5-8

I'm going to rewatch MOS tonight and write a full review tomorrow. Air out a few grievances.

Agree completely. The whole thing just felt very superficial and even artificial to me. It just didn't have "heart" the way Spider-Man 1, BB, and nearly every MCU movie has.

I'd give it a 7/10. It deserves a 6, but I give an extra point for the great peripherals (great soundtrack, visuals, cinematography).

It doesn't really represent the modern Superman, though. The post-crisis Superman changed up some things for sure, usually aiming for a more magical realism vibe to the setting than the outright fantastical of the silver age, but at the end of the day it was still mostly a fun bright superhero comic that understood the basics of what the character was about. With a few exceptions, it never reeked of the desperation and ridiculous overcompensation to be seen as "adult" that saturated every frame of Man of Steel, and even in those few cases it rarely went to the same extremes and usually executed them a lot better when it did.

^ As a guy who's not a fan of Post Crisis, I've never thought about it that way before.

I feel like the soundtrack/visuals/etc. were the only reason I gave it a 7 the first time I watched it.

for me it was very good. i'd give it an 8/10

what kept it from being an excellent movie is some of the dialogue and pacing issues. i know there were certain scenes cut out and i'm sure if they had been included it would have made the movie even better but what's done is done.

i personally think MoS kicked off the DC movie universe well and it will only get better hopefully. BvS will be a much better indicator of where this universe is gong and it seems that WB, DC, Snyder & company have taken heed of some of the criticisms surrounding MoS

WOW. "Overrated?" You really think this movie's overrated? This movie is EASILY one of the most, if the not THE most divisive comic book movie EVER made. This might be on par in terms of divisive reception to WATCHMEN. It's literally become a movie thats either well loved or vehemently hated. It's split right down the middle. I've seen a LOT and I mean a LOT of vitriolic reviews/ reactions to this movie calling it an "abomination," "Man of S***" "one of the worst CBM's ever made," there's a **** ton of people who hate this movie with every fiber of their being. You could say The Avengers is overrated, you could say The Dark Knight is overrated but noooo way is this movie overrated.

The fact that it is so divisive proves that it's overrated. If it was just people saying "that was okay I guess" along with people hating it that'd be one thing, but this movie has a ravenously devoted fan base, hailing it as one of the smartest and most mature superhero movies of all time.

Average. Decent with some great elements (most notably the score), but overall still just average.

I dunno, I always felt the term "overrated" was for movies that had overwhelmingly positive reception by critics and fans. For example, I personally feel like Blade Runner is overrated because I just do not understand that movie. Or a more recent example, Inception, another movie that's widely loved that I personally just don't understand the love for. I feel like the amount of people who hate MoS outweigh the people who love it. It's tomato score indicates that a great deal of people did not like this movie plain and simple.

Average.

Act 1 - Introduction, young Clark, the Kents - Excellent.
Act 2 - Lois, Aliens, Daily Planet - Good.
Act 3 - Destruction porn, indulgent action - Piss poor.

Add that all together - Average.

I thought it was very good, but it did have a lot of script issues. Goyer's writing is this movie's greatest weakness.

Okay I liked this movie-gave it a 7/10 even though it really is a 5/10.

It has some flaws. And a good number of this flaws where just unnecessary STUPID mistakes.

Anyways below is the list.
1. Overtly long kryptonian sequence: There was no reason why this sequence had to be long. This is the Superman movie not the Jorel movie. We only needed the basics didn’t need to see all the spaceship battles just because it was cool to see. They didn’t further the plot.

2. Terrible Info dump: In the Fotress scene, we have a terrible info dump that basically rehashes the information we received in the krypton opening.I understand the audience would need to be reminded of the info but it was just too much and felt clunky. The movie needed to drum mini info dumps throughout the story on kryptonian mythos-rather than a huge one in the beginning and midde.

3. Codex plot:The reason Zod attacks Earth is to get Kalel. In otheworlds Kalels presence on earth is what attracts danger to earth. So you have a situation where it is Superman who puts the world in Danger-He brought kryptonian war to earth in the first place.Superman saving the earth is no longer heroic. Its just him cleaning his mess.It would have been better if Zod reasons for attacking earth was for earth not Codex/Kal.

4. Bioengineering plot: The whole thing about Clark being the only non engineered Kryptonian was pointless. It just made Clark extra special for no reason.

5. Fate of Colonies: Thousands of years ago, Kryptonians journeyed to space to establish colonies. The Colonies are now dead and Krypton abandoned Spacetravel. Question is why?The movie gives no explanation. Now to be fair this could be explained in a sequel-In fact it would make for an awesome sequel to have a plot reveolving around the ancient Pioneers

6. Reactive Superman:The Birthright Clark is Proactive in saving people-hes travelling the world to seeking peoplein need of help and saves them. The MOS Clark is reactive in saving people-he only saves them if he happens to be where people need his help.
The problem with a Reactive Superman is that hes not heroic, hes just a decent guy.The Proactive Superman is a hero-one who journeys the world for the sole purpose of helping people despute the fact hes an outsider.By going for the reactive Clark you cant convey Supermans love for Mankind adequately. This is the reason why people get the impression MOS supes didn’t care that much.

7. Does the world really need Superman?:Gotham is not a normal City.If it was it wouldn’t need Batman. The City of Gotham is a City riddled with Crime and Maniacs of course it needs Batman.Similarly if the world in Superman is normal, then it doesn’t need Superman.A world that needs Superman is one that is frequently plagued with Diasasters of every kind.Thts not the world presented in MOS. We are presented with a pretty normal world-One that doesn’t really need a hero till Zod shows up and then reverts back to not needing Superman when Zod is defeated.See the Problem

8.Fathers Plot: Now MOS had pretty good ideas with the Fathers plot. One ofClarks Fathers wants him to hide his powers, and refrain from using them to help people because they’ll fear him. The Other Father wants Clark to be an Ideal for the people of Earth an Inspiration,a source of Hope to the people of Earth. So Clark has to choose which father he wants to follow. Thats a Great Character Drama oppurtunity
The Problem however is that Jonathan Kent is the Father who wants Clark to hide his powers and not help people. This is so very VERY WRONG. Jonathan Kent is supposed to be the Father who gives Clarks his morals, the one who teaches Clark to be a hero, the one teaches him to use his God given gifts to help People. Jonathan kent teaching Clark to be hero showcases that it is his humanity that makes him a Hero.
Instead in this movie he is actually a hindrance to Clark being an hero.
Instead we have Jorel be the Father that teaches Clark to be a Hero in this movie ,Jorel his dead Alien Father. -That’s messed up and Contrary to Superman.
If there should be father who is against Clark being a hero,it should be Jorel. He sent his son to earth to continue the Kryptonian race ,not risk his life for lesser beings. Jonathan kent however should be the one who molds Clark into the hero

9. Bad Character arc: Clarks character arc does not sufficiently explain him becoming Superman.Jonathan Kent raises his son not to use his powers to help people.Yet We are presented with a Clark who is eager to help people-Why?Makes no sense. Then Clark goes into exile hiding his powers to honor his dying wish. All it takes his Ghost dad to talk him out. WTF. And then he wears the suit why?what is the suit purpose?

10.Lack of Character moments:.The issue with action is that they were not sufficiently interspersed with character moments and the movie needed more of them-in fact the movie was strongest in this moments.
Superman needed more dialog and to do that he needed more people to relate with-more character moments.

11. Lack of Uplifting moments:There were no uplifting”Superman is here to save the day moments in the film”.This is Superman! The Batman movie had more uplifting moments.Batman!

12.World Reaction: The movie made such a big deal about the Worlds reaction to an Alien and barely showed it!In fact we never see much of the worlds reaction to anything not even the destruction of Metropolis.

13. Secret Identity:Worst kept secret identity ever.Truly.
14. Humor:Movie needed some lighthearted moments interspersed with it.We needed Jim olsen
15. Not enough Superman showing concern for saving People.Just oneor two scenesof Superman trying to save people in the metropolis fight.would have gone a Long way
