While I couldnt categorize this as a bad movie, it is very disappointing, especially compared to the 1st Thor movie which I loved. And its the poorest MCU movie so far for me.

It was a solid movie. Not great, not bad. The Hemsworth/Hiddleston stuff along with the final battle and some great individual scenes like the funeral, Asgard Invasion make it worth the price of admission.

I have a great feeling about Ragnarok though. The way Feige talked about it at the conference made me believe they are aware they havent done the Thor franchise enough justice. If Ragnarok isnt awesome, it won't be for lack of effort.

I still love it & like it a bit more than the first. But, to be fair, I think both movies are about on the same level. They each have their flaws but nothing that's big enough to take away from my enjoyment of either movies.

I liked Malekith as a villain but it goes without saying that he was missing the charm that Loki had in even the first movie, though that was almost to be expected.

The only real gripe I probably have with TDW would be the whole Jane & Darcy thing. Now, I do understand why Jane's there and her role in the movie but the screen-time that went to Darcy, her assistant, etc. could've went to characters like Sif...better characters that would actually have a purpose in the story beyond comedy.

Totally disappointing to me... I legitimately wanted to walk out during the more humorous scenes. Not kidding. I don't know if they were trying to be laid back about it or... But the dialogue and timing of those scenes were so, so awkward. This was the one film that was just terribly written.

I apologise.

The first film was terrific. Never understood the broader hate for it all around (just the "meh"'s, I guess).

I think it was average. I understand Marvel trying to make Thor their Superman which is why I'm assuming the tone they are taking which coincides with Donner's Superman. Most sequels tend to be better than the original, but I honestly think this isn't the case this time.

I liked as many things as I disliked so I went with average.

You have Piont about marvel done rising Thor

I didn't like it. In fact, I don't like how Thor is portrayed at all in the MCU, so far. I like Chris Hemsworth though. I also think Malekith was another wasted villain that Marvel is so good at doing minus a few. And Kat Dennings and the intern... nuff said.

  • Personally, I didn't like how the female characters were treated in it, especially Jane. She had the potential to be terrific character, yet was reduced to a plot device, barely there for much of the middle part of the film. Having her host the Aether could have taken her to new levels, yet it was just an excuse for her to spend a large part of the film unconscious, or floating about in a daze. I had the impression the writers were only interested in the Thor/Loki bromance, sorry girls, you're not necessary. Apparently they're lining up Amora as femme fatale for Thor 3, Jane will probably be written out and no mention of what happens to Sif. I suspect the real reason these ladies are superfluous to requirements is because neither of them are scantly clad. Come Thor 3, we'll instead have a bona fide **** Queen as leading lady, complete with *****y demeahor and plenty of tit on show!:oldrazz:

With all due respect to Ms Dennings, I will never understand the popularity of Darcy Lewis.

I didn't know being scantily clad led to strong female characters. Seems pretty misogynistic to me and as a guy and a comic fan I've always been pretty embarrassed by how some female characters have been drawn. Jane was pretty instrumental in Malekith's defeat and Frigga and Sif were portrayed as very strong female characters. Not getting this complaint at all.

In my honest opinion it was average. It's not the worst of watched but it's also not the best. It's just a solid bit of entertainment that's not too painful to sit through.

Easily entertained Stoners and company fondness...that's the only explanation I can come with as the character is unnecessary and silly. She and her cohort do nothing to further the plot along at all. Her screen time should have been trimmed and anything dealing with Malekith and his motivations should have been added.

Frigga was fridged, Sif was hardly in it and Jane's Asgardian scenes were so bad they were embarrasing.
As for scantily clad being strong...I meant the opposite. Kyle and Yost seem uninterested in female roles unless they're sex objects, hence their plan to include Amora in forthcoming films.

Sorry for misreading you. Amora can use her sexuality and be a strong manipulative character without being a one-note sl*t. The Enchantress is a pretty big character in the Thor mythos so I don't see how you can begrudge her inclusion.

You're entitled to your opinion about the female characters of course but I certainly don't agree with it. I didn't find anything embarrassing in this film but whatever.

The movie felt like A LOT was left on the cutting room floor. It was a real short film. I think it could have easily benefited from an extra 20/25 minutes. I LOVED the first Thor film, I loved Chris Hemsworth, I loved his chemistry with Portman, I loved the cinematography, everything about it just hit the right notes for me. When Thor TDW came out it looked SO epic and I was really excited to see Jane Foster go to Thor's world where it would be her turn to be the fish out of water AND it would give us the chance to see more of Asgard and Thor's way of life. There was SO much potential to explore all that but the movie just rushed through everything and didn't give anything a chance to breathe and in the end we didn't get to see that much more of Asgard than the first film.

All in all, I still thought TDW was a good film. I actually liked Maleketh alot and thought he was by far the most formidable villain in the MCU thus far. He just wasn't given enough depth. I think more exploration of Maleketh and maybe 10/15 more minutes of Jane getting to know Thor's world: his friends, his family, his locations....all of that would have GREATLY enhanced the film. The movie felt too much like an "episode" and not a full "film."

I believe it was originally intended to be 2 hours plus, but according to Alan Davis a lot was edited out. I suspect they tried to make it more 'family friendly' hence Darcy Lewis, hugely popular among fan fiction authors, and the humour.
Although what's funny about mental illness is beyond me.

Rewatching this now as part of a Phase 2 marathon. The Loki scenes and Frigga's funeral elevate it from mediocre to above average for me. And though I wasn't really a fan of the Earth scenes this time around, I admit I did laugh a little too hard at:

"Darcy!"
"Jane!"
"Intern!"
"Selvig!"
"Mew Mew!"

I'm not afraid to laugh. However, it was a particularly corny joke. I'm also not ashamed that I found the joke funny, I'm just pointing out my reaction was greater than it was actually worth.

I changed my mind again.
I give thor the dark world 4 stars, great movie.
At least 3 1/2 stars(very good),but i give it 4 stars again.
