I just got finished watching Octopussy about an hour ago, and watching it, I forgot how great it was. It's certainly not the most serious Bond film, but it's quite possibly the most fun.

Roger Moore is showing his age in this one, but he's rarely had more fun in the part. Some of his best one liners are in this movie, specifically his brief interchange with Q on the hot air balloon (Bond: I trust you can handle this contraption, Q? Q: It goes by hot air. Bond: Oh, then you can.), and he manages to handle the action sequences quite well for a man his age (though I'm sure he had stunt men).

Maude Adams is much more enjoyable as Octopussy than she was Anders in The Man With The Golden Gun. She's among the best Bond girls in that she manages to match Bond in terms of intelligence and charm.

I love the villians in this one. Louis Jordan as Kamal Khan is up there with Goldfinger and 006 as one of the all time best. He's sinister, charming and evil all in one. Steve Berkoff is great as Orloff as well.

Some of the best action sequences in the entire series are in this one as well. The opening sequence is awesome, and the entire chase scene through India is one of a kind. I must day, that sequence belongs to the character of Vijay (Vijay Armritraj). IMO he steals the show from Moore.

The plot is thin, but who cares when it's this much fun.

IMO, I'd rate it 5 / 5 for me. While it's not the most serious or deepest, as I said, it's quite possibly the most fun. Your thoughts?

most underrated bond film.

Moore and Adams' chemistry was excellent

the movie is just fun...and it has the cold war elements as well. its entertaining and dangerous at the same time.

Not my favourite Moore Bond film, in fact is the least favourite beasides moonraker and a view to a kill. But good stuff here, with the clow scene at the first, the song was cool, maud adams is an excellent bond girl, louis jordan is a great villan and some action scenes were good. But Moore was too old, the humour was too campy( see the tarzan impersonator) and the argument was weak. With all its faults, a entertaning movie to watch.

I love Octopussy, it's one of my favourites. As Anthonynasti says, possibly the most fun to watch.

You have;

- Great pre-title sequence
- Classic song, All-Time High
- Superbly tense clown death scene
- A Bond girl who is closer to Bond in age and you can actually see him staying with
- Loads of great bad guys. Kamal Khan, henchman Gobinda, crazy General Orlov, knife throwers Mischka and Grishka, and the guy with the yo-yo buzzsaw.
- Excellent John Glen action; the train fight is awesome, the plane stunt climax is amazing
- The race to defuse the bomb is the most suspenseful sequence in any Bond movie, with real wit as Moore is dressed as a clown and no-one takes him seriously with seconds left to a nuclear explosion.

I love it.

Agreed. And I forgot about the theme song. I love "All Time High". It's such a sensual and romantic song.

4/5

One of the best Bond movies, and one of Moore's most effective performances as 007.

One of the best. Probably my second or third favourite Bond film.

Bah, it wasn't 1 of the worst but it wasn't 1 of the best either imo. It gets a 2.5 out 5.

My least favorite Bond film. It has very few redeeming qualities for me. When it's not being dull, it's being way too silly.

just looking at octopussy and magda made Octupussy 1 of my favorite bond films

I didn't think Octopussy was a bad film, but it's just a bland one. It's more of the same and it never gets as exciting or as good as the best of the series. Personally, I have it ranked as no. 16 of the 21 films under TMWTGG and above LALD.

Octopussy should have been Moore's last Bond film. It would have been the perfect exit film for him. The film had everything you'd expect from a Moore film.

he's rarely had more fun in the part.

I know you said rarely, but watch The Spy Who Loved Me again. I think thats the film where he had the most fun. You can tell he's having a blast.

PHENOMENAL Bond Movie!

Overlooked, underrated, and DESPERATELY underappreciated!

This is my favorite Roger Moore Bond flick, and maybe my second or third favorite ever (personally)...The final sequence (hanging onto a PLANE!?!) is brilliant!

"Octopussy RULES!"

omg, this bond movie was horrible. the tarzan yell, bond dressed as a friggin CLOWN, omg, this was bad. the whole clown thing killed it though. i voted very poor.

In Ian Fleming's 128 page scrapbook, he did write down many ideas and story sequences, one that included James Bond dressed up as a clown.

The scrapbook is also famous for containing the name Blofeld, adding more intrigue to the McClory/Fleming/Brocolli debate and who created what aspects of the Bond universe.

I don't know what the above statement is saying, other than bebating the argument of a Bond-Clown. But Octopussy kicks some serious 'A'!

You can't beat it, even in the more ham-hocked moments.

Think about all the original things (Bond-wise or other) in the movie: The motorized-cart chase through the busy streets of India, most of the movie TAKING PLACE in India, a villain with a rediculous buzz saw weapon, Elephants(!), circus communists, fabriche eggs (sp?), and Maude Adams.....okay, maybe it was her second Bond movie :o, but you get me drift. ;)

Octopussy is one of favorite bond movie. Moore was great in it. Great story, great plot, great location and Vilian Kamal Khan. I also like the fact that the story didnt have those dragged out shoot out scenes like most Bond movies, esp the Moore movies. I miss it already !!!

"Octopussy" is probably my favorite Bond from the Roger Moore era. Silly, thin plot, Moore clearly getting too old for the part by this point, but it's too much fun to hate.

Of all the Bond girls Moore had, Maude Adams seemed like she had the most chemistry with him.

I like the bit where he's trying to escape through the jungle and we actually hear the Tarzan scream as he's swinging from the vines (Return of the Jedi, which came out the same year, had more or less the same gag).

Plus, I dig the Rita Coolidge song, "All Time High".

I watched Ocotpussy again recently, and it's noticable that the first half is more comedic, like Moonraker, whereas the second half, from Vijay's death onwards, is far more serious, like For Your Eyes Only.

With regards to the clown scene; it would have been so easy to have Moore ham it up, but that scene is played so seriously it works fantastically!......

Love the Roger Moore Bond era. Octopussy my second favorite after Live and Let Die. The only thing i hated about Octopussy was Bond swing from vine to vine, screaming like Tarzan! I thought that was corny even back then. Other than that 5/5.

Bond doesn't do the yell himself (in the fictional context of the movie), it's just played over the top as a joke. It's like the stupid whistle when the car jumps over the river in The Man with the Golden Gun.
