RDJ and Robert Duvall in....The Judge

I believe that troupes can work, but if a director goes the extra mile and gives that cliche a little twist, then that's admirable.

I like how the trailer is like "Academy Award", "Academy Award", "Vincent D'Nofrio", "Academy Award"...

I like the trailer. Though the one thing shot I didn't like was with RDJ riding his bike, and lifting his arms in the air. Other movies have done it (Walter Mitty for example) where the main character just....loosens up and 'lets go'. Such a cliche.

One day, I'm just going to run around the streets in slow motion with my arms in the air. A cop will stop and ask me when I'm doing, and I will tell him that I am experiencing "a triumph of the human spirit." Then he will ask me why I'm naked.

Downey can do drama. This just doesn't look like good drama. It looks trite and cliched.

This. I have no problem with RDJ going out of his 'comfort zone', and he did really well in Chaplin. But his dramas are hit-and-miss, like Less than Zero, The Soloist, et al..

I just shrugged with indifference when I saw the trailer for this.

RDJ was great in Wonder Boys: in hindsight, it was a good combination of the swagger he has in mainstream movies and his ability to portray nuanced characters in more serious movies.

Did you see The Soloist? It pretty much went by completely unnoticed but RDJ delivers a very fine performance in it.

Haven't seen it. I heard it wasn't very good though.

I believe that troupes can work, but if a director goes the extra mile and gives that cliche a little twist, then that's admirable.

Hopefully that's the case.
