Ready Lounger One

Supes has had great comics, good animated series and actual decently-made and popular forays into live-action, unlike Goku. The sheer amount of media he's had ensures that some of them will suck (and don't even pretend that doesn't apply to Goku too), but his symbol is one of the most-recognizable in the world, and what it represents crosses language and cultural barriers all over the world. Only reason I know who Goku is is because my brother went through an anime phase that didn't last. If anyone outside of Japan and anime nerds knows who Goku is in 50 years, you can come say "I told you so." :oldrazz:

The exact same thing applies to Goku too. Goku is THE iconic anime/manga character and it's popularity is not something that's just restricted to Japan, or even Asia. I'm Australian, Reek is American, Jokes is British, Perfect Cell is Canadian. There are literally public events throughout South and Central America celebrating the character and franchise. People dig the character, regardless of culture.

Now I'm not saying he's more well-known or even commenting on the quality of the two figures, but to deny the character and his home franchise's status as icons? Yeah, that's just asinine.

Y'all are anime fans. There are anime fans in every country. But would my mom know who Goku is? Or my conservative Southern relatives? Or my German-Chinese grandmother? Or my Pakistani neighbors? Or my 40-something Californian boss and her family? It's certainly possible one or two might, but I can guarantee you they ALL know who Superman is, without even having to ask. That's how established an icon he is.

Obviously people dig Goku, never denied that. And he's obviously an icon in his medium, no doubt. But there's a vast portion of the population of this planet that don't know the faintest ANYTHING about anime/manga, making his popularity and recognizability niche outside of certain regions, especially compared to Supes.

Goku is a global anime icon, Superman is a global pop culture icon. He birthed an entire genre of entertainment, across comics, radio, animation, games, television and movies and dominated the mainstream in a big way. There's no contest here.

Superman got beat up by Batman... a mere mortal.

Call me in 50 years when Goku ever gets beat up by a freak in a bat costume

The less said about Superman in TDKR/BvS, the better. Like I said, they can't all be winners.

I ****in' hate anime, though.

Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher need to come back to TV... old man supes... with his super babies they left a cliffhanger on...

its not like they are doing anything else

Dean Cain was on Supergirl the last I checked. He had also gone insane in real life.

They were both on Supergirl.

But LOL, I had forgotten about that baby cliffhanger. To be honest, I don't remember much about L&C past the first couple seasons (which I still re-watch on occasion). I remember there was some bad arc featuring a goofy Zod knock-off, and one where the guy who plays Black Lightning was a voodoo master, but that's about it.

Well I would imagine most of the people you know, if they were born...let's say after '75, towards the last few decades of the 20th century, then they would know what anime is. They would know, vaguely that there is such a thing as Japanese (or at least Asian) cartoons that exist and I bet that when they think of anime as a concept, some sort of approximation of a spikey haired protagonist comes to mind. The derivations of that come from Goku in the same way the concept of a caped, spandex wearing protagonist is a derivation that comes from Superman.

Now, does everyone know the specifics of what Goku and his story are the same way they know Superman is Clark Kent, enemy with Luthor, love interest to Lois Lane etc? No, of course not. Superman is more well known and always will be, that's a fact and not something I'm arguing. But a character or concept doesn't have to be at that level to be iconic and to suggest that a character who is as iconic for the mediums in which his stories are told will be forgotten in 50 or 30 years or whatever number you want to throw out is... well it's just wrong.

Yet it's the only point I was making. The rest was just me being snarky back at Reek. I'm sure Goku won't be forgotten. :)

last episode i really remember is when lois went to a different earth where there was no superman

I mean, people always draw parallels between Superman and Goku, and it's not because of their power sets. What Superman was to superhero comics, Dragon Ball was to shonen. Which in its own right is an unbelievably popular genre.

Plus, if we're talking about symbols, while Superman's shield is by far more iconic... a lot of people know what Super Saiyan is, and could describe it visually. And that extends beyond anime or Dragon Ball fans. Sports fandom alone uses it a ton to describe someone having a good game or performance.

Oh yeah, where they finally brought in Lana Lang...as a selfish blonde bimbo.

Superman also can't keep a job... oil rig, lumberjack/bartender, cant report now cause hes dead.

Look... hes a piece of **** living off of tax payers money. /Trump

Is he dead or living off tax payers money? Make up your mind, Cheeto!

Wait, is Superman dead again? Someone needs to put a bell on him.

Trust me... no where is safe from molestation with you around.

Here in FL we have a sign with a local saying all over the state. It says don't molest the gators.
