I kinda imagine Bruce Wayne acting like Paris Hilton.
Not exactly the type of person you'd think was secretly doing so much good.

He would have to seem the most futile person in the world. Even releasing private sex tapes and then pretending he didn't know anything about it. I highly doubt someone would suspect he was Batman all along.

Just think about Paris Hilton.

My friend read the book "the science of superman." He said pretty much the only answer for anything was "He's Kryptonian"

some people have said that the real villians are different from the movies so batman would'nt last long, but whats true for one is true for the other, meaning a real life batman would be very different. he would be less dramatic (ie stunts) and more to the point, like a quick strike and getaway. he wouldnt jump around and glide but would hang around inthe shadows waiting (like a modern ninja). he would probably use things such as pepper spray, blinding light, a cosh and basic body armor, groin guard and the head gear. he would be more careful in how he went about things. so my answer is yes and no. yes a real batman could survive, and no the movie batman would not.
hi all by the way!!!!!

Batman is a fantasy character. There can never be a successful "Batman" as he is in the comics, cartoons or movies, in real life. Not even a modified for real life version of such a person would work. Certain things work in fantasy that are not appliable to the real world.

I think it'd be interesting if one Batman imitator spawned in one city and inspired others in different cities to don the same responsibilities. The problem with being Batman, however, is that it's not only your job, but everything in your life. That is your life's sole purpose, and when push comes to shove, I think a lot of people would have other priorities they'd want to invest in.

The character has no time for a life at all. In the world of fantasy, somehow Bruce Wayne has some sort of playboy life that he uses as a masqerade. Even if they are all hired hookers, how does he do it? He spends his life dedicating himself that much training of the mind and body, that much scientific research, where does he have time for a life or friends? The guy's a weirdo loner/loser. He's more like Robert DeNiro's character in Taxi Driver, now THAT would be one brave Batman movie. Fanboys would kill the director and writing team that even tried to do Batman like that.

Tim Burton tried to make a plausible idea of Bruce Wayne, that he's a reclusive nutball with few social skills because he's so focused and commited to one thing , but very few people liked that. They wanted the socializing playboy with all the girls. When does Bats/Bruce have time for all of this? (even if they are hookers.) Anyone who does what Bruce does obviously has mental problems, and the Burton idea of Wayne made sense to me. (but that's another thread)

These questions can be fun in one way, but ultimately we must realize that this is what fantasy is for. To make up crap like this to entertain ourselves.

Getting a lot of girls wouldn't be much of a problem for Bruce Wayne: he is rich AND handsome. keeping in shape, being such a good detective AND keeping his double identity secret, from police, criminals and the media, that would be a problem. As well as actually fighting crime with efficiency while not dying of every lost bullet he could get.

I don't think a real life Batman would work. A real-life Punisher maaaaaayyyybe. But in real life, fighting criminals is never easy and there is no gadgetry that can keep you safe against bullets while keeping you agile like an acrobat. In real life, a common thug could take down Batman, if he was lucky enough.

If you dedicate your life to one thing alone, if you try to master all you can use to fight crime, and if you put your personal life on hold, lets say, forever....yeah, sure  ;)

Sure there could be. If someone was as devoted as Wayne. There could be. He would never be AS good, because well...that's just reality. One man would not be able to survive as long as Bats. But it could definately happen. Think about how easily you get scared walking down a dark, quiet street at night. If some dude has wicked ass training and just jumped from the shadows or a not so high building (like a variety store). Wouldn't you **** your pants. Cape or no cape, cowl or no cowl...it would be scary because this thing would be there out of no where, and OWN you. And you wouldn't know who it was...or what it was...

It is definately POSSIBLE... but is it LIKELY? ...no. lol

There is a difference:)

hahaa, exactly, its the places you patrol that really count in my mind. and if you could stick to teh semi high rooftops you COULD pursue guys you think may be shakey, or could do something very unlawful. Jumping out in the middle of a dark alley WOULD scare people, your right, but even 2-up it with a mask, black clothing, a possible cape and you could really scare someone ****less, even those thugs who think they are tough and own these allys.

I would say Batman how he is portrayed in comics is nearly impossible, but you could get really near that in reality, you really could push yourself to the limit, ive seen people jump rooftops for FUN, and no crimefighting IN MIND. so it is possible in every account. then go to a crime ridden area. nighttime. keep watch, its something i wanna do in life. i wouldnt care if itd kill me.

Except going from rooftop to rooftop to identifie/pursue/fight criminals is highly risky, especially in the dark, and quite inefficient (again, especially in the dark). Fighting crime in real life is quite unspectacular, and you cannot just walk in some neighborhood hoping to find criminal activities.

I can only see the possibility of a real-world Batman in lesser developed countries. Areas where superstition and folklore still influence everyday life. A man dressed in a Batsuit may every well be able to strike fear in the hearts of men in such a place.

But not in a modern city or a city of the future as depicted in the movies and comics.

i think there could be. just someone rich enough.
and he would undoubtedly become so famous that he would go crazy and start to believe in Scientology.

You could be a Batmanish Vigilante, but you couldn't be Batman.

You dress up like Batman, and try taking on some muggers. They'd be like

"LOL ! IT'Z BATMAN !11 RUN0RZZ !!!!!11 Let's shoot him. >_>;"

One of the reasons Batman works is because the criminals aren't sure what he can and can't do. They don't know whether he has super powers, or whether he kills, or anything. Regular guys would. Batman is huge. There isn't a single person out there that can read, that doesn't know who Batman is.

If the majority of the public didn't find Batman hokey and gay, it might've worked. Blame 1960. :)

I think the size of the city would be key too. I mean, a city as big as New York City would probably be enitrely too much for anybody, even a Superhero, to handle on his own. So, that might be something too.

But, money and time is something I think would be greatly needed.

Yeah right masked heros everywhere in the future yeah right like that would ever happen.

Actually it already is happening. One may argue with the effectiveness of these people but they are out there.
I'll try to find you some news links.
