Hm. Why's Metallo's hair brown on this cover? I have the individual issues, so I've never seen the cover to the trade up close before.

Do you suppose it's just so people'd associate it more with the cartoon?

    Superman Aliens looks wicked.
Kingdom Come looks interesting. I like Alex Ross, and Batman's in it.

Thats just Metallo the way they drew him before someone decided to do something different. Its expected in all comic books.

Does MOS Vol. 1 have the mini-series? If not, where does it have it?

Yes, Man of Steel volume 1 is the Man of Steel origin mini-series by John Byrne.

Thanks all. I was wondering, what would be say the best first three to read? For example Batman has Year One, Long Halloween and Dark Victory which are in my view a great intro to the character and the comics in general. Any help?

I just ordered some Batman/Superman trades for the same reason as you. I haven't read much of either but after Batman Begins and with Superman Returns coming up, I wanted to check some out. I picked up Year One, Long Halloween, Man of Steel vol 1, and Superman for All Seasons. I thought all of those would be good for someone that hasn't read much of the characters and I thought they would compliment one another well (TLH and For All Seasons are from the same creators).
I'm sure I'll come back and post my thoughts when I'm done.

I'd like a good read about Superman's origin. I probably pick up Superman for all Seasons, Birthright and Man of Steel.

hey fallen -- not sure if you're only a graphic novel person, but I'd recommend following Superman All-Star. Morrison and Quitley are an amazing team, and the first 3 issues have thus far been a supreme read :-) This is the only S-book I follow at the moment; it's by far the best one on the market IMO.

Thanks for the tip mate. I've been thinking of taking a look at the All-Star stuff. Now I just need the time to go the comic shop (damn work!).

OK.... I went on a comic spree on the weekend and picked up the following:

    Birthright
    For All Seasons
For Tomorrow Vol. 1 and 2
    President Lex
    Lex Luthor: Man Of Steel
    Red Son

I've just read Birthright and am about halve way through For All Seasons. Birthright was ok, I did'nt like the whole Krytonian invasion thing though. I'm really digging For All Seasons though, the writing is really good.

So what should I grab next time? Thanks for the help!
