Comics Recomended Superman Reading

hey fallen -- not sure if you're only a graphic novel person, but I'd recommend following Superman All-Star. Morrison and Quitley are an amazing team, and the first 3 issues have thus far been a supreme read :-) This is the only S-book I follow at the moment; it's by far the best one on the market IMO.

 Best book period!

For all seasons is awesome!

Yeah I know I've read it. I've also just finished Red Son last night, man that's an awesome read.

But I still need to know what to buy next....

I think Rucka's run on Adventures of Superman is a good deal better than All Star. All Star's fine, but it's a bit over the top for my tastes.

Hey guys,
I'm a Marvel fan, but after reading Identity Crisis and quite enjoying it, I decided to try on some more DC stuff. I wanted to check out some superman and batman and did some research on what I thought would be good selections for someone without much familiarity with the history of the characters....and also what would be a good read. I ordered 2 Bats (Year One, The Long Halloween) and 2 Supes (Man of Steel and For All Seasons) books that I thought would compliment one another well. After polishing off the Batman stuff I started into Supes and wanted to leave my comments here.

I just finished The Man of Steel and overall, found it to be OK. Byrne's art is so flawless and classic. I can't fault that one bit. You see his art and always think that that is the definitive version of a character. Overall I found the story writing to not have an abundance of substance, but it did the job I guess. The one story I really liked was the last one where his father visited him. I thought it ended on a great note. That kinda saved the book for me.

I'm moving on to For All Seasons which I am really looking forward to. I'll be back after that.

The best Superman book ever is Man of Steel. It's Superman in the purest form.

I agree with you on the "purest form comment." It certainly had what I would consider a classic feel. Byrne's art has a lot to do with that.

However, I did finish reading For All Seasons last night, and I found it to be a much more enjoyable read. Sale's art is not as classic as Byrne's but it fits Loeb's writing which has a Norman Rockwell kind of a feel. I'm glad I chose those two Superman books.

That completes my DC venture. I really enjoyed it

I much prefer Man of Steel and For All Seasons over Birthright. I don't get the whole silver age revivial that DC is going through. I mean, I don't mind a little nostalgia here and there, but them seem to be forgeting the post crisis continuity completely to bring back something that didn't work well in the first place.

I picked up Birthright a couple weeks ago and really liked it. I read Byrnes relaunch when it came out but didn't care for alot of the changes he brought. Birthright seemed alot closer to the Superman i exspect to read about in the Comics.

Anybody know any good Superman/Darkseid stories?

Superman/Batman when supergirl is reintroduced. That was a very good graphic novel.

Just finished Man of Steel. Gotta say, that's my Superman. Kicks Birthright's ass.

Birthright sucks compared to Man of Steel. It`s just ANOTHER origin story that wasnt needed at all.
