Alright I don't want to come off like a dick, but how could you bash Protest the Hero and love The White Stripes? They have the talent of an average 12 year old garage band.

are you that insecure about your taste in music that instead of either defending your choice of musician or accept the fact that i have a differing taste in music, you instead have to lash out at my personal taste in music?

and while i could easily debate your obviously flawed comment about the stripes, i do not believe that is what this thread is for. and i dont want to take part in what will likely result in a flame war throwing the thread horrendously off topic.

No, and that's exactly why I didn't want to come off like that, even if I did. Because I just find it mind boggling.

Then why didn't you say that? You outright called it crap, which, while it may be nothing more than an admittance of your personal taste, is certainly insulting to Edd's. Personally, if I said something like that, I'd expect the reply you got from Edd.

Exactly. I don't usually say I hate other music. If it's not my thing then it's not my thing. I don't bash it. Unless it's the White Stripes. I honestly, flat out hate them. That's it. If I've bashed anything remotely close, it's been some bands' fans. I wish people would grow up and stop saying they hate something simply because it's not their thing.

no no, i understand what you were saying...i wasnt taking offence to it, nor thinking you were being a dick (i wasnt trying to sound like on either).

but, i'll put it this way with the stripes and we'll leave it at that so the thread can continue: iggy pop, jimmy page, robert plant, bob dylan, pete townshend, mick jagger...all incredible and influential musicians. whether you like their music or not, you cannot deny that they are important and intergral figures in the history of rock and roll...they have all made outwardly enthusiastic comments about the white stripes as musicians. when so many (plus more) musicians of important standing have made such remarks about the band, you cannot deny that said band has some serious and respectable talent. now, this doesnt mean you have to like the stripes, you dont have to like the music, but when the godfathers of rock and roll all agree that they're an amazing talent....then you cant deny that theres something to them. i say this instead of giving my own opinion on the band because these men's opinion carry far greater weight than my own. and before you say something about how im just mindlessly following the opinions of rock and roll's fore fathers, this is not true....i was rocking out to the stripes in dingy hole in the wall detroit dive bars long before anyone outside of the metro-detroit area even knew the name of jack white.

it was my understanding that this thread was for posting a song, someone responding to said song with their feelings about it, then posting a song of your own. edd posted a song, i didnt like the song, so i said i didnt like the song...i thought it was crap. thats my personal opinion about that song. i never once attacked edd for like that song. if he likes it, thats cool, more power to him. now, why am i being attacked for posting an honest opinion about a song in a thread that was made for people to post their opinion about a given song?

if this were true, then how do you explain this comment that you just made not moments ago in the thread entitled "a new blink 182"?

That band sucks. I can show you 20,000 better unsigned bands.

like i said, i dont expect you to like the stripes, if you dont like them thats cool. i just found it to be poor form for you to immediately retort with an unwarranted attack on a band that i like, which at the moment had nothing to do with this thread (unlike the band you posted), merely because i didnt like the song you posted.

My mistake. Touche, sir!

If you could read my mind - gordon lightfoot.

Seeing as no one seems to be paying any attention to the rules, I picked a track by someone who did.
I've wanted to check out the Mars Volta for a while now but never actually took the trouble to do so. After hearing that track I'll definitely be checking out more of their stuff. This is totally my kind of music ! Good one.

My recommendation : Pull Shapes by The Pipettes
An incredibly fun (and short) pop song that mimics the 'Spector' sound of the 1960s.
Download it or better yet check out the nifty video which is an homage to the party scene from Russ Meyer's film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsvKJ65-TlM
