I guess I'm gonna have to get back on this game, at least just to go around shooting people

i've been trying to get the highest bounty i can.

so far it's at $5,500.

That and actually winning at high-stakes poker are the things I plan to do after getting the 100% completion. How do you go about racking up that kind of bounty, Riddler? I was thinking of getting on top of a building in Blackwater or something and picking people off with my rifle. Seems like it'd be tough for the cops to get me up there.

That's how I did it. There's a building you get on top of that's very close to the train station, so after you get your bounty you can run straight there and pay it off (there's an achievement for that). It took me several tries, though.

I started playing the past 3 days. I really like it though it's not without it's faults.

My favorite thing to do is kill guys chasing me on horseback. I had about 3-4 gangs of guys chase me on my way back to Armadillo to get a bounty on a guy. I was not going to screw it up since keeping the guy alive was $400 (I had $406 so it basically doubled the money I have).

I have a bunch of skins/meat/etc. from animals. Do they have any use besides selling them? Does it matter when or where I sell them?

Skins and meat and such that you've already collected can sometimes count for challenges and stuff, but usually you have to collect more in addition to what you have. So no, they're not really useful for anything. Money won't be an issue as you go along. You'll have plenty by about 2/3rds of the way through the game, unless you gamble it all away.

If you're ever strapped for cash, there's actually a cool little trick I learned. You could debatably call it a cheat, but it's more of an exploitation of something the devs probably overlooked. You ride around until you find one of those guys who's shooting at birds. He'll challenge you to a sharpshooting contest where you have to kill at least 4 birds to beat his record. If you fail the first time, he'll offer you double or nothing. You take it, fail again, he offers another double or nothing, and so on. Do that as long as you can afford to, kill the 4 birds in Dead-Eye, and he'll pay you back what you bet and your winnings. Then you strap on your bandana, shoot him in the face, and loot his body--he'll have the same amount he paid you, give or take like $8 or $10. So you basically double your money right there. I went from $3000 to $6000 and change that way, and I was set for money the whole rest of the game.

I'd save some animals from the northern part of the game (Bears, Bighorns, Elk, etc...) & sell them in Mexico. You'd get more there than from selling them in America.

Yeah, same is true vice-versa as well. Things always sell better where they're not roaming around nearby.

I'm going for the Legend outfit but I'm stuck on killing a bear with a melee knife. So my question is has anybody got any tips on killing a bear with a melee knife?

If you sprinkle bait outside of one of the cabins in Tall Trees (one's in Tanner's Reach, the other's just on the edge of the Aurora Basin), you can sometimes lure a bear there and kill it from the safety of the cabin. Wear it down with some pistol shots and then just stabby-stabby until it keels over. You've gotta work fast, though; I had several bears run off after I weakened them and they just disappeared when they got out of sight. I ran out of the cabin after them and when I crested the hill they ran over, they were just gone. Really annoying. And once you lure a bear with bait, it tends to cycle through other animals if you use bait again. I kept getting stupid deer when I tried bait a second time.

The way I actually wound up doing it myself is by hanging around Beecher's Hope at the entrance on the road right between Tall Trees and the Great Plains, waiting for bears to appear, and then just chasing and shooting one from the opposite side of the Beecher's Hope fence. Once I weakened that one, it tried to run off too, but I kept after it (much easier outdoors by a fence than from inside a cabin), pulled my knife, and finally killed it by charging through a gap in the fence and stabbing it a couple times.

I'm so pissed off. I caught a Hungarian Half-Bred shortly after getting into Mexico. I went to Landon but didn't hitch it. The mission started and it was on a porch and as I was trying to get it out, the mission failed and I had to restart. When it did, it was gone. I'm trying to find another one in the wild since I don't have enough money to buy a deed to a new one.

That sucks. The deeds are awesome whenever you do get enough money, though. You can use them as often as you want, so you'll never have to worry about horses ever again. I accidentally shot my horse one time because it wandered into my shot right before I fired, but I just used the deed to call up a new one and everything was fine. Helps when you start hunting bears or cougars and those f***ers murder your horse, too.

Deeds also have another awesome use, auto saves. If you're on a mission you don't think you can handle, and it's been awhile since the game has saved and you got a bunch of crap, you can just use your deed and it'll auto save. Of course in this game auto saves won't put you back in the same spot you were in, but if you have to leave the game and want to keep your stuff you've got since the last save it's really handy.

Also good to see Liars & Cheats DLC dated. Sucks that's it's 2 days after Move's release tho. I'm going to be messing with that for awhile so might put off buying that DLC for a few weeks until I can put in proper amounts of time in it. I will be buying it tho, unlike the last DLC which just isn't worth the $10 to me. Playing poker and liar's dice online, and the zombie DLC sound really awesome tho.

Oh, btw Corp, did you get the train thing yet? Just thought I'd warn you that there's a bit in Mexico where the train gets stuck at a certain point for awhile. Just thought I'd give you a heads up before the mission that deals with trains in Mexico. I had a problem with it where I was going for a challenge of shooting birds from a moving train or something like that, and took about an hour of trying to find the train before I looked online and found out that a certain mission stops it for a bit.

Yeah, it's the mission where you blow up the bridge leading back to the US. The train gets stuck at Casa Madrugada because the only thing after that point is the bridge, but it's out and there's no way to loop the train back around to anything else. I had to just go do a mission and come back to the train at an earlier stop to get that challenge done.

i usually hit up a few cities on horseback (usually armadillo). i usually kill everyone in the bar and this causes the "cops" on horseback to come after me. the quickest and best way to get the bounty up is to kill cops; if you kill regular people it usually don't really increase much.

with the cops on my back i usually just race ahead on horseback and pick them off as they chase me. gotta be careful not to get cornered and to have plenty of ammo because when you have a high enough bounty it isn't easy to get away unless you kill them all. after i kill everyone chasing me, i'll go back to the bar at armadillo and save the game so i can build upon my bounty.

i'm aiming for $10,000.

Yeah, using that deeds auto-save trick really helped me when I was going for the Bounty trophy.

I can't wait to play poker online with friends when the new DLC comes out. I wonder how I'll be able to call their bluff online though, maybe I can hear their thoughts in their headset and call it.. :hehe:

Ah, I've always thought the best way to build a bounty would be to hunker down somewhere relatively secure. The cops seem pretty stupid in the game, at least in Blackwater. I just took cover behind a post and some boxes on the main street in Blackwater and the game kept tossing one or two cops at me from each end of the street at a time. I killed like twenty or thirty of them and got my bounty up to $2,000-something before they actually managed to build up enough numbers to kill me before I could whittle them all down. I figure if I do that same process but on a rooftop where I'll have the high ground and the cops won't actually be able to get to very easily, I can make $5,000 and then call my horse, jump down onto its back (so I don't kill myself jumping off the building), and haul ass to the train station to use a deed for the achievement...

Yea i tried that. Be careful in what building you choose. I tried the same thing and ended up getting blown away because the cops could enter an adjacent building or come up the fire escape.

Don't know if anyones seen this, but it talks about the Zombie DLC, as well as the free outfits being available for download in a couple of weeks.

Red Dead Redemption DLC Update: Liars and Cheats Pack Coming 9/21 with Expanded Free Roam Content & New Details on Undead Nightmare Pack

rdr_lc_082710.jpg

Today, we are pleased to announce some new details about the Red Dead Redemption DLC series.

On the heels of the June Co-operative Multiplayer release, the Outlaws to the End Co-Op Mission Pack – which introduced six new Co-operative missions for up to 4 people to conquer together…

And the recent release, the Legends and Killers Pack – which mostly focused on Competitive Multiplayer and added 9 new map locations tailored for Competitive mode action, along with 8 playable characters from the world of Red Dead Revolver and the deadly Tomahawk everyone’s been hacking each other with online…

We are excited to bring you our next packs, starting with the September 21st 2010 debut of our Free Roam release: the Liars and Cheats Pack, which focuses on expanding the Free Roam multiplayer experience as well as adding new modes to Competitive Multiplayer.

The Liars and Cheats Pack will contain a great range of new highly-requested features to expand the Free Roam world including Multiplayer Poker and Liar’s Dice, as well as a brand new Competitive Multiplayer gameplay mode. The Liars and Cheats Pack will also include the content previously announced as the Free Roam Pack. The Free Roam Pack was originally planned as a free download, but due to the platform networks’ restrictions on numbers of free packs we can give away (and our promise to bring you the free Hunting and Trading Outfits Pack – more on that below), we have instead added it to the Liars and Cheats Pack as one Free Roam release boasting the following features and more:

Multiplayer Poker and Liar's Dice Games
One of the most fan-requested features comes to multiplayer.

Multiplayer Horse Races
Ride out against your friends and foes online - with mounted combat guns blazing.

The Explosive Rifle
A devastatingly destructive new weapon with its own new single-player and multiplayer challenges.

7 New Gang Hideouts
Posse up and take on the new Hideouts together to level up quickly.

4 New Hunting Grounds
New Hunting Grounds are now visible on the map for all to see, with some of the most action-packed wildlife hunting yet.

Stronghold Competitive Multiplayer Mode
Teams take turns in attack and defense in multi-tiered Competitive games.
Posse Scoring and Leaderboards
Compare stats with other posses and compete to see who are the kings of the Free Roam frontier.

Plus, 15 additional multiplayer characters from the Red Dead Redemption storyline are being made available as multiplayer characters, and more all-new Achievements and Trophies.

This pack will be released on September 21st worldwide for download on both PlayStation Network ($9.99) and Xbox LIVE (800 Microsoft Points). Stay tuned for lots more detail on the content in this pack including first screens and more.

Then, later this fall, we will be presenting our original mostly Single-Player DLC release: the Undead Nightmare Pack.

Unleashed upon the world of Red Dead Redemption, the Undead Nightmare Pack will feature an entirely new single-player campaign that follows John Marston as he tries to find a cure for the highly infectious zombie plague that has spread across the frontier.

In addition to the lengthy single-player adventure, The Undead Nightmare Pack features brand new gameplay mechanics, weapons, zombie animals, mythical creatures and even a brand new secret location.

All this, plus some new multiplayer modes and much more to be revealed in the weeks ahead. The Undead Nightmare Pack will be available simultaneously for download via PlayStation Network ($9.99) and Xbox LIVE (800 Microsoft Points). We'll have lots more info soon.

Additionally, we are going to be bringing you some free downloadable goodies in the next few weeks including the anticipated Hunting and Trading Outfits Pack which will give everyone the Savvy Merchant and Expert Hunter Outfits and related Challenges, plus special compatibility to enable everyone online to see the Red Dead Revolver multiplayer character skins being used by those who have purchased any of the DLC – we will have full details on this very soon.

John Marston curing a zombie plague? Thats a tad out of left field isn't it? New area though, that sounds cool.

will it be
jack
if we already beat the game?

also, it sounds absolutely incredible. mythical creatures!!! definitely the dlc i'm gonna get.

Very interested in the Undead Nightmare DLC. It may be a bit silly, but I'm always up for more SP goodness in this game. I'd love to see some full-on additional storylines like with GTA 4's Episodes from Liberty City.

Yeah, I thought of that. I'm gonna try to climb a building and jump to a roof a couple buildings away in Blackwater. Hopefully the AI won't be able to handle jumping from building to building as well as I can...

I know, 'Mythical Creatures'? Like what, a uniform? A griffin?
