Red Letter Media.....best movie reviews I have seen

Redlettermedia should be hired to read scripts and give notes to film makers to make a better movie.

What I like is that both their criticisms and praises get to the heart of characters and themes rather than nitpicking over needless details like Cinemasin s or whatever. Also they're just very funny people. Half in the Bag is great.

I don't find them to be nothing special. They have ridiculously bias reviews and I don't find them funny. I'll take the Spill Crew over RLM any day

Objective review is more or less an oxymoron.

Let me guess, you're mad that they hated on The Man of Steel :oldrazz:

Hahaha! I did love Man of Steel but luckily Im man (not a pun) enough to admit that it has big problems well brought up. Strangely enough it was after their Star Trek Into Darkness review that started putting me off, a film which I've said many times I don't really like. There was just something about the way they spoke about the films they slag off that rubs me up the wrong way I guess? And I really used to like RLM! Their reviews used to be really insightful as well as funny but sometimes now to me they just come across as whiny and their bar seems to begin at s**t and only go upwards rather than going in with an open mind.

Besides his first four Star Trek movie reviews, I haven't been able to sit through one of his reviews because most of his criticisms seem to stem from the fact that he doesn't pay very close attention to movies and only looks for things to point out as flaws. RLM is really nothing special.

You realize the Plinket reviews aren't the only thing or even the majority of what they do right?

RLM is the whole site, they do a lot of things. Have you seen Best of the Worst? I have no idea where they dig up some of those tapes.

Last Wheel of the Worst was hilarious

RLM rules. Half in the Bag and Best of the Worst are among my favorite shows. I've seen all the episodes countless times. Plinkett is great too.

Can't stand these guys-even when I agree with them.
They're incredibly irritating. I just don't like their humor or the way they present themselves. They come off as incredibly entitled and *****ey.

Their brand of cynicism can get grating for me at times but it doesn't change RLM's status as one of the best and most intelligent film criticism I've seen on the net. Entertaining too, but its the thoughtfulness that keeps me coming back to their videos. You get the sense that they understand how movies work and that there is a knowledge accompanying the opinions, which I can appreciate even when I don't agree with them.

Has anyone here watched one of their films? They don't look very good.

Even though I disagreed with their views on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Man of Steel, I still love those reviews they did for them because they do bring up some very valid points about why they think the movies are terrible (main reasons having to do with the structure and tone of both movies). I loved the pacing for both those movies, the only problem I had with the new Spidey flick were the jarring character/tonal shifts, Electro and Harry turning against Spidey felt very forced and only felt necessary to move towards the final action set-piece (the Goblin fight should have been longer, as it seemed it only lasted 2 minutes). Man of Steel is the one I highly disagree with them on though, I think it's a 10/10 movie, and they think it's probably closer to a 4/10 or lower, I loved the film's darkness and I loved that it was able to be absolutely fun even during its chaotic action scenes (which I thought were exhilarating). Clark's speech to Lois about how his father was convinced that the world couldn't be trusted with his secret still sticks with me. Something I didn't like about their review of Man of Steel was the fact that they talked about how Superman Returns was supposedly better, I hate Superman Returns with a passion, I find that it's unbelievably boring, not to mention Kate Bosworth was a terrible Lois Lane. Maybe Bryan Singer wanted to cast her because she looks like a little boy.

They said that of Returns because it maintains Superman as a fun character, in The Man of Steel they nolanised it and went with "darker" and "realistic" as well as giving too complex of an explanation for why Superman is Superman, instead of being a hero, he's now Jesus 2.0, with everyone around him talking about him as if he was a messiah, or how it keeps feeding the idea that he will be what saves humanity, even though we wouldn't be in that trouble if it wasn't for him.

That Bryan Singer likes little boys jokes isn't really funny in this contest, sorry.

I have Feeding Frenzy on DVD actually. I liked it when I saw it. It's low budget and I don't watch a lot of B-movies myself, so I don't see myself rewatching it, but I enjoyed it. I much prefer to watch Half in the Bag or Best of the Worst.

Didn't know there was shipping for the RLM crew

They seem to make a hit on other internet reviewers, in the end they expecially seem to be mentioning the likes of Nostalgia Critic and his site.

I like the half in the bag crew's deadpan humor.

I think they've vastly expanded the entertainment they can provide, both Half in the Bag and Best of the Worst are very refreshing compared to other internet reviews and podcasts, they feature a classic format with actual sets and props, instead of shooting everything in green screen.

I also like how they keep trying to expand their Company, instead of just playing it safe, just a shame that means less HitB and BotW episodes.

The early stuff(star wars) was pretty great. However their more continuous stuff isn't anything special. Pretty much the same as any film blogger site.

I disagree, their half in bag and Wheel of the Worst are quite different from other film blogger sites, mainly due to the format being more interesting, almost like a sitcom reviewing show. I would actualy consider them better than the Pincklett videos, they feel more genuine to me.

Red Letter Media lost me on the Titanic review. DiCaprio and Portman bad actors. A statement I can't get behind. Still love Half in the BAAAAAAAAG and look forward to Plinkett's next review. Hope it's something unexpected unlike Star Trek V as someone alluded to or Twilight.

They don't exactly consider DiCaprio a bad actor, they jsut find him unbelievable in various roles, they even made a comparison to kids in a school play, where they're playing certain roles the best they can but don't ever realy look like the roles they're portraying, with DiCaprio it's a little of that, he simply doesn't fit some types of roles, no matter how much he tries.

Portman's alright, but i also agree with them when they talked about Black Swan, Milla Kunis stole the show there.

Not a fan, especially since everyone quotes those stupid prequel reviews, and I really don't need someone to point out all the flaws of the prequels. Some of us do like them and think them good films, so I'll take my opinion over someone who acts so sure that they are completely right in their opinion and that there are no redeeming facotrs to the films.

I'm with the above, Spill is way better, and usually has a decently varied opinion amongst their group.

They're not saying their opinion is better, it's simply something they felt they had to talk about, they don't go around finding people dumb for liking films they don't, as they stated in:

Mike Stoklasa said:
I'm not angry though, disappointed sure, but not angry. Nor do I hate anyone that gets entertainment from the prequels. People can enjoy whatever they want. I just find them fascinating from a lot of different perspectives.

The simultaneous Transformers review was hilarious. I wouldn't say these guys are so much better than everyone else and they tend to be too negative but Mike is spot on about. A lot of things

We're very close to something, new Plinkett?

Only one I've ever seen was their skewering of Adam Sandler in their Jack & Jill review.

Is this the guy who does those ''everything wrong in 7 minutes review?'' ...He is awful.
