Seriously though, it was a great experience. Speaking as someone who wasn't a huge fan of Bronson aside from Hardy's amazing performance, Refn came across as a very smart and creative guy, and it seems like he's just starting to get the opportunities to make the movies he really wants to make. If this movie is any indication of that evolution, I think audiences are in for a treat with his upcoming slate. I know I'm certainly gonna be hyped for his future projects.

Glad that you liked the film. I seriously can't wait to see it myself, although I've to wait until f***ing November to see it. :csad:

You want me to describe it for you in detail? You sure? Ok...(I highly recommend not reading this, for the record, lol):

I'm assuming you're talking about the part where the violence starts. After their job went horribly awry, they are temporarily holding up in the motel, and the Driver (Ryan Gosling) already knows that Blanche (Christina Hendricks) knew more than she let on, and he basically forces her to tell him what she knew. He goes outside to call Irene (Carey Mulligan). While he's outside, Blanche makes a phone call from her cell. Driver comes back in, and they form a plan to track down guy who's behind all this, and return the money they've now ended up with to whoever's after it/them (Driver wants no part of that money). Blanche goes into the bathroom to freshen up (he had hit her across her face earlier in the scene, so she's examining the damage). We cut back to him, and we hear her cellphone (which she had left on the bed) vibrate, and he looks down at it (we assume there was a text or something, as we never see what he saw). He knows something's up, looks over to the doorknob, and it's turning (but locked). We cut back to Blanche looking in the mirror, and in the slatted window right next to her, there's a shotgun pointed right at her head (she remains oblivious). Cut back to Driver grabbing a mattress for a shield and crossing the room over to the bathroom. Then it all happens at once. Guy fires through the door at him, we see Blanche's face/head explode from the other shooter (in glorious slo-mo, lol), Driver grabs the shower curtain rod in the bathroom, pulls that guy inside the window and runs him through with the rod. Driver grabs his shotgun and turns around just in time to blow away the other guy who just got in the front door. Lots of blood, super intense. (That shot of Blanche with the shotgun pointed at her got such a great crowd reaction) That's basically the scene where the extreme violence kicks off, as it's actually in the first half of the film. So yeah, Christina Hendricks really only has a couple scenes in the movie before she gets her head blown off.

Thanks for posting that link, btw. I loved the soundtrack for this movie!
 
lmao gnarrrly. It plays out a lil different in the novel but it sounds just as nasty. :D thanks!
 
That star wars mashup was crazily will edited. at least in terms of how well the dialogue matched up with the mouth movements.
 
The next great action movie and action hero is upon us. I cannot wait.

There's no hand-held cameras, Refn avoided those for this film. Can't say anything about the action though, as I haven't seen the effing movie yet.

It comes in quick violent bursts, but there's no shaky cam and it's pretty great.
 
btw, I did not know that this was based off of a book.
 
I'm looking forward to seeing how the GA will response to this, I think they'll like it even though the film is more of an arthouse film than a mainstream movie but it has a nice exposure and not to mention that the product itself has got good reviews so far, so I'm very pleased by the way Filmdistrict have marketed this.

I heard about this project before, but it was only until Refn was attached to this that I find out it was based on a book.

the novella is pretty good but I'm really liking the changes they made for the movie. :up:
 
Whoever decided that particular font and color for the marketing/ads should be given anything they want.
