Refn Teaming with Gosling for Drive

I was thinking about the elevator kiss the last time I watched it and I think it's possibly that the kiss didn't actually happen. If you watch the scene, the lighting and the atmosphere changes as it happens, almost like it's a dream. I think it's possible that he just pushed her behind him to protect her, then fought with the bad guy, and the whole kiss sequence was just a bit of symbolism.

I could be totally wrong though. Just a theory.

I never thought of it that way but it is totally possible. I'm not one to who finds many ambiguous scenes legit (I think most of Inception's ambiguity is b******t), but that could have actually been in his head.

I think Mandalore pretty much got it.

With the exagerated lighting, it makes the idea of the scene even more dramatic looking. It's just more theatrical and stylistic than what we're used to.

Hope we do get a sequel to this film. Kinda sad that it does not have a bigger fanbase by now.

The fanbase doesn't need to grow. The first did very good business for its size. Line up a sequel and the buzz and acclaim for the first film will do the rest.

Well I would rather not have a sequel unless it can stand with Drive. Now there IS a sequel in book form, titled 'Driven'. But I don't know how close the film is to the first book, so it may end up being a loose adaptation.

Also, Refn made the ending super ambiguous:
Does Driver go back to the girl, or does he leave town?
I don't know if I want to know what really happens.

I hope if they do a sequel they will follow the sequel to the books story line and if they can keep the movie costs has cheap has the first movie it could make tons more the second time around.

^ So any thoughts on what could happen in the sequel if we even get one?

Read the sequel novel, Driven. That ought to give you some idea of where the next movie will go. Here's the plot synopsis from Amazon:

Seven years have passed. Driver has left the old life, become Paul West, and founded a successful business back in Phoenix. Walking down the street one day, he and his fiancee are attacked by two men and, while Driver dispatches both, his fiancee is killed. Sinking back into anonymity, aided by his friend Felix, an ex-gangbanger and Desert Storm vet, Driver retreats, but finds that his past stalks him and will not stop. He has to turn and face it.

I was about to post that from amazon my self lol but I would say the movie was pretty loyal to the book its a really small about 158 pages the book was none linear and the movie did good imo following the book,

It is not ambiguous. Come on now.

He leaves town.

^I thought it was pretty clear he left town, Irene was safe, he left the money with the body of the gangster (cant recall his name right now) so Irene is safe, that wouldnt be the case if he went back to her, i'm sure the gangster has friends who will want to know what happened in all of this.

Synopsis for the book sequel sounds a bit weird though, like its not a general follow-up, we'll see, if they can match the first movie i'm all for a sequel.

^I'm sure there is more to the book than the synopsis, but it doesnt sound overly good to me, I would still like to see what they did with it of course.

I thought Refn made it ambiguous until I read various interviews that he wanted Driver to leave town. My baddo!

I didn't even read that, just simply saw the film. It was pretty obvious, not ambiguous at all.

I wear my penguins to look cute. The coolness is just a side effect.

Any word on when the Blu-Ray comes out with the extra features?

Refn said around september when he originally announced that release, so I would guess around then.

Sony released the Drive DVD. That along with Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy Blu-Ray re-release and Take Shelter, Sony has the worst home video department due to their awful art box covers.
