Regardless of if you liked The Village/Lady in the Water or all of Night's films...

One surely must at least acknowledge the wonderful music in Shyamalan's movies. It's interesting to find that the two overall-worst-rated films of his still-emerging career (Lady In The Water and The Village) contain some of the best film music I have ever heard.

In terms of film scores, I rate Shyamalan's films as:

The Village,
Lady In The Water,
Signs,
The Sixth Sense,
Unbreakable.

I actually thought Unbreakable had the best score of Shyamalan's films. that theme when David is getting out of the pool makes me tingle.

It's true the music in all his films is awesome.
I think its James Newton Howard who is behind most of them if not all.
Most people on these boards would know him because he co-composed the music for Batman Begins.

Signs IMO has the best score, there's just something about the music that just gets to me, awesome score

Same reason people hate other successful things; it's fashionable to do so. I personally think Shyamalan is incredibly talented and his movies are like an oasis amidst all the other "inspired by" and "based on" movies, and dirty comedies and eye candy (film elements which I still enjoy, but they're not the only game in town). I want films to have original stories, and I want filmmakers to tell original stories. I want movies to have imagination poured into them, and I want movies that evoke the most creative imaginations from audiences. Even if Night's films don't hit home exactly or maybe aren't even that good in someone's eyes, they are still completely original and that in itself sets it above a good portion of the rest of the movies out there.

I dont know if everyone is ragging on him b/c its the "cool" thing to do.. I think he's talented too, but at this point his shtick is getting old. The first four movies were all made around a twist at the end, on top of that they are all exactly the same in tone, pacing, etc. and thats the reason Im not going to see Lady in the Water. I had high hopes for the Village, but it was just the same old thing, and it gets boring. What Im really really sick of (and this has gotten worse with each consecutive movie) is how seriously the guy takes himself. Everyone in his movies goes a little too far in seriousness and it has completely put me off of his work. It's like every word and every move each character makes are the most important in the universe. Nobody can just look at anything, they have to gaze in amazement, and its gotten to point where I can't get into the characters because they all act the same.

I think the guy can make a good movie, he just needs help with the writing at this point. I do like the 6th sense and Unbreakable scores BTW.. Remember liking the music in the Village, but that was about it..

I reccommend seeing Lady in the Water though... because it's unlike his past films. It builds up nicely and has good pacing. There's no huge twist at the end... the story has a resolution and there's little trickery involved. If anything, see it for the music and cinematography. The music is inspiring, and the visuals of the film are incredible. The movie is not a realistic look at something supernatural (AKA, his last four films) but a full-out fairytale in film-form. It's different and you might like it.

Yeah I get what you're saying. I like his writing, but hey, everyone has their own tastes. As for Lady in the Water, it's also pretty funny. I'm a little surprised it's not rated PG... it's definitely (in part) a children's movie but not a young kid's movie. It's almost like a movie for the kid inside people. There's some really great undertones and meanings to the film as well.

Shyamalan is a decent filmmaker - I don't hate him. He certainly has more imagination than a lot of people. But what he has to stop doing is solely authoring his screenplays, because that's where the flaws for all his movies appear. THE VILLAGE was a mess, and LADY IN THE WATER even more so. He needs someone to come in and touch up his work.

But anyhow, I agree that his music choices have been pretty darn good.

I FINALLY watched "The Village" last week for the first time, and I've gotta say it wasn't NEARLY as bad as people made it out to be. In fact, it was good. It wasn't 'GREAT', but it was still completely original with fine acting and YES, phenomenal music!!!

It easily goes to the bottom of M. Night's list of movies, but still FAR more clever and fun than most generic bull**** that studios put out every week!

i can find a bunch of films taht have flaws on them, just because he writes his ownplays that another witer couldve come with anything better. he need certain prodcuers to tell him that he should change certain things in a script. bruckheimer and shymalan would be gold.
