Reincarnation--Fact or Phooey

And once again, the thread about reincarnation has people discussing the validity of a religion that has nothing to do with reincarnation.

If you're going to have this debate, at least use religions with reincarnation as examples. The reason I'm participating in this thread instead of the cluster-freak regular religion thread is because I'm sick and tired of reading this same crap over and over.

"Oh, but the Bible says this..."
The Bible literally has nothing to do with this.
The topic is Reincarnation: Fact or Fiction, so we are discussing whether faith based claims are fact, and what qualifies as a fact. I see that as having a more than incidental relationship to the topic.

Any discussion about reincarnation should involved Buddhism, not Christianity.

Fair enough, but examples are being used from a religion that has nothing to do with the topic. If you guys are going to have this discussion about whether or not faith based claims can be proven, try proving/disproving the claims of a faith that believes in (wait for it...) reincarnation!

I like a good theological debate every now and then, but one of the reasons I can never have a debate with most atheists is because they like to disprove things in the Bible or the Qur'an, while I sometimes want to move on to things like Buddhism or Sikhism.

Atheism is not faith based. It is a lack of faith. There is absolutely nothing about atheism that requires faith.

The old saying is "If lack of belief is a belief, then bald is a hairstyle" fits.

Someone says "I believe in invisible, fire breathing dragons that steal people's car keys and hide them"

You respond "I do not believe that"

It takes ZERO faith to not believe in car key stealing dragons. It is merely the rejection of a faith0based claim.
I don't know about you, but it takes all the faith I can muster to believe that this is it, and that there is nothing else out there after I perish. It would be nice to think that I will go to Heaven, or my spirit will continue on in some form, but I don't believe in that. But I have faith, and that means I'm okay with it. I've come to terms. My faith is strong, even if it doesn't include a Heaven or a Hell or being reincarnated.

And I agree with Manic. Enough with the Bible and the Quran getting all the spotlight. Can't we discuss the Dhammapada or the Vedas? This is about reincarnation, after all.
