FYI, here are some Iron Man armor concepts that did not make the cut for the upcoming movie. Personally I think these are fantastic, straddling a line between realism and the comic book world that would really work with the James Bond/Tom Clancy vibe that director Jon Favreau is going for.

hese were designed/rendered by Brandon Perlow who has done TV and movie computer effects work. Brandon met with visual effects supervisor John Nelson who said that although he liked the design and that in some cases it paralleled what they were doing, it did not fit in with their overall direction. They're wanting to go in more of an Adi Granov design direction. It will be interesting to see how the final concept measures up to these. For more of Brandon's work, visit his site: BrandonPerlow.com.

I don't know. They could turn out to be worse, though with these designs it seems like the movies in a food direction at least.

those were made by a guy here on the forums

Interesting designs, but from all Favreau has said I think Granov will design the movie armor.

Yeah, remember when we saw a concept maquette of the Thing and then we saw the actual Thing. But then again they've got Granov working on this...so there's still hope.

Take a look at the manips thread you guys,
somebody claimed to make those pics himself....
I wouldn't believe that site, anybody could have made those 3d renderings

Brandon Perlow. He's here on the boards, too.

Wow really?
I thought Adi Granov was doing all the design work tho???

Yes, those were done by Brandon here on the forum, but he DID meet with the VFX supervisor on the movie and the conversation mentioned on Screen Rant DID take place as written.

They're pretty good but Im not sure I like the yellow patterns on the arms and legs

It looks cool, but 2 things I'm not crazy about: The rubber looking suit underneath shows in too many places and the "metal" part of the armor doesn't look metal, it looks like some sort of vacuum-formed material. I'd say it would be a good starting point. If he could just cover more of the body with armor and make it look more like burnished steel, it would be a lot better IMO.

Those are awesome pics, I really like that armor, its much more real world, I can't believe they were rejected, you would think Marvel would take these designs and work with them and modify them to make them what they are looking for.
I hope Brandon gets a job on the film, helping with the designs, his work is incredible.

I met with John Nelson on a cold call to Marvel to show my models of Iron Man. I even did a quickie model of the granov design to see where it can be workable for animation. Im not claiming to be great, just that my designs can work for posing and animation.

The Granov design needs a lot of work that a real person can look good in it and that it can be posed heroicly. I hope they have the right people to make Granovs design work. I was MORE than willing to take Granovs design to fruition. I still think areas like the shoulders, Abs, and Hips are problematic in Granovs design. The hips dont allow for alot of movement, and the knee needs to be segmented well.

ALso take into account a normal human at 6 ft tall is 7-7.5 heads tall. A comic book character is 8.5- 9 heads tall. Care must be taken that Iron Man doesnt look dumpy in the real world. I still believe the flexible armor look is the best way to go for film. I think the suit will look a little different than the normal Granov suit when everything is said and done.

Quite cool, could use some more detail in the face, and the top of the head by the fore head looks a tad too bulky but, still nice.

I hope the movie has a design with as much imagination and is faithful to the comic.

I'm tired of boring comic book movie costumes, like the X-men and all the leather crap. DD's suit would've been so much better looking had it been done like Spidey's.

They are okay, but looks way too segmented and Robot like instead of armor covering a human being.

Sheesh, after putting Batman in armored battlesuits (whih by definition the character shouldn't even need) I figured everyone would be on the same page on what Iron Man should look like.

i dont see them can someone repost them from photobucket i think they took the site down.

I like thm. I'd prefer a bit more gold and less black and the boots bigger with visibke jets. And the red closer to blood red, like the version posted in the other thread.

BLueberry, my first iteration did have bigger boots, but a friend of mine who is a VFX supervisior for another company, felt it caused an imbalance and made the hands and arms look small.

The black areas are supposed to be Gunmetal grey.

Red and Gold are 2 strong colors that cant fight each other if not balanced. Grey is a neutral color.

SInce Ultimate IM has dark grey, I tried adding it to him too.

Just to push the design.

It was meant to be an experiment. Its easy enough to change the colors in 3d.

Yeah, I agree that Granov´s design as it is in the comics can be hard to translate into movies. People keep forgetting that comic book art and cartoons can cheat in a lot of ways that you can´t in live-action. The difference to a Batman armor is that it´s supposed to be more hi-tech, and yet look flexible enough. It´s a challenge.

A lot people love the internet cause they all can say stuff and be insulting. But at least back it up.
