When do you think the sequel to The Dark Knight will be released in theaters?

Will other films from WB have effect on the release date? Will the WB want to use it against some pretty big competitors depending on the date it's released? How will other studios counter or use the TDK sequel to their advantage for working the superhero film angle?

2012. It will give Nolan lots of time to make it one of a kind

Anyone who still thinks this is coming next year is kidding themselves.

Unlike many others, I believe that filming will start ASAP for Nolan and crew. If anyone in here has ever been a part of a crew, they know that once you're done filming one production you're eagerly ready to keep working. In this case the same crew from INCEPTION, I was told a while ago, will be working on Nolan's next project. Now given that I heard this information a few months ago, I'm sure that now with the recent news about 3atman more info will be released very soon pertaining to the time frame of the release date for 3atman.

This is my guess.

The script is in the works now.

Inception will come out, Nolan will take a break until September.

September, Chris helps out with the script, pre-production begins in October or November, maybe.

January, filming begins

March, post-production

July, film is in theaters.

Sooo.. 2011? Maybe?

Even if a script magically fell from the sky and casting and preproduction spontaneously completed themselves... it would still be almost impossible to get it out by next summer.

I want Nolan to take his time on it. I don't think it's gonna take only two months to film this. TDK was finishing filming months before Ledger died.

Next summer's already too crowded anyway. We got Thor, Green Lantern, and Captain America. I don't want those films getting TIH effect. It's bad enough Paramount is rushing to get TF3 out by next summer.

If they are gonna shoot it, it would probably be by the fall (which means snow in the next batman film? :awesome: )

The sooner the better. I hope Bale doesn't do another film where he loses a crapload of weight and then has to regain it. All that rapid weight loss/weight gain is prematurely aging him big time. He looked old as heck in the Dark Knight compared to Batman Begins.

at this point i wouldn't even want it next summer. itd just be mad rushed

2012 seems perfect. And as long as viral marketing starts a year before the film, it would be like a 2011 release for me =)

2029

They're not going to film this year. Bale is making the Malick movie in the fall and will probably continue working on it until early 2011. The earliest they'll starting shooting a new Batman movie is next Spring.

Really? INCEPTION has been done filming for some time now and I'm sure final production is nearly complete. Bale, who also took Brad Pitts role in The Fighter, has been done filming for months. They could start filming 3atman in 2 months and still have enough time for Bale and his little film in Fall '10.

Lets not forget that actors are trained to transfer from one character to another in a quick fashion. Ledger was filmed for I'm Not There before they even finished filming TDK. Not to mention his quick dive into The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus after IMT.

If we hear any rumblings about the studio thinking of releasing this film for 2011, we should be worried.

I say week before Christmas 2011. This gives them all of 2011 to complete the film, and I for one thinks a winter release date will give the film a different feel. Also, the case has been made that this is a better time to release a film. That Twight sequel had a huge October or November opening, and then of course Avatar saw big numbers the week of Christmas and New Years, even though it had a lackluster $70 million opening it went out to smash the all time record. Let's face it, that film comes out during the summer season and instead of $700 million domestic it probably gets lost in the competition after the first month and winds up with $400 million.

So like I said, lets shoot for a Winter opening this time.

I don't get why studios don't take advantage of that Christmas period for blockbusters. That said, I think the only reason the film gets moved to that time period is for awards.

I would love to see the next film released Winter 2011. I wouldn't mind if the film was actually set in the winter time as well. It's not unreasonable to think they could have the film ready by then if they start production this summer/fall. Still, given WB's history I'm expecting a summer 2012 release.
