Remakes that will make you freak out?

Breakfast at Tiffany's was (and is) a fantastic movie. Don't touch Audrey Hupburn because my GOD, she was beautiful.

Also, she had a warm relationshiop with Tiffany's and I doubt that they want to taint her legacy with a remake.

I agree 100%. Breakfast at Tiffany's is my all time favourite movie. But it still suprises me that no one has touched it. I'm very glad that at this moment in time in remains unnoticed. Let's hope it stays that way.

Besides Mickey Rooney's Japanese character being buffoonish (I didn't mind but from a modernist point of view, it can be viewed as racial), the movie is a classic.

I saw it by accident, and I fell in love with Audrey. I wish she was alive so I could marry her.

Rooney's character is super racist. But that aside, the film is just beautiful. I love that as much as it is about Holly Golightly, it's also an ode to New York City. I could just go on forever about all the things I love about the film.

If you liked Audrey in that you should check out Roman Holiday. That one has been remade in one form or another over the years, but it is a great fifties romantic comedy. She is absolutely charming in it, and Gregory Peck plays the male lead and he is wonderful too. Plus it's a great travelogue film. All shot on location in Rome.

i need to check it out.

I've seen 'My Fair Lady' and 'Paris When it Sizzles'. Both good movies, though I don't like the 'conformity' theme of 'My Fair Lady' but hey, it was just the sign of the times back then (along with 'Rebel without a Cause')

I like My Fair Lady but it's not my favourite Audrey. I saw Paris When it Sizzles many years ago and I remember it being a little off.

Sabrina however, is another good one if you can get over the age difference between her and Bogart.

All of the All-Time-Greats should be left alone. They're classics because they're great, and if you mess with a classic you're just going to make a mess of a movie. Now the Not-So-Great movies, that somehow managed to build a huge cult following, many of those could (and in some cases should) be remade. Take, for example, Red Sonja and Barberella. Red Sonja with Brigette Nielson and Arnold Schwarzenegger was as bad as bad can get. Sonja's red wig looked fake, the fight scenes looked choriographed, the dialogue was horrendous, and worst of all... SONJA KISSED KALIDOR IN THE END!!!! Don't they know that if Sonja ever breaks her vow she'll losse her skill with the sword? That was the whole point!!! It was made too much of a comedy when it should have been taken seriously. If they had made it as dark and violent, with as much sex and nudity, as Conan The Barbarian it would have been a huge hit rather than a huge joke. Barberella was always meant as a quasi-comedy. But compared to many other sci-fi movies, even parts which weren't meant as a joke are laughable. So now they're both being remade, starring Rose MacGowen. If they avoid the mistakes made in the originals, they may have a couple of huge hits on their hands. There are many sub-par movies that could really stand to be remade with higher standards.

- Dungeons & Dragons
- Dungeons & Dragons II: Wrath Of The Dragon God
- Battle Beyond The Stars
- Vampirella
- Any of the Hercules movies starring Lou Ferrigno
- The Star Wars prequels (Leave the originals alone George Lucas! You son of a b***h!)
- Just about anything ever made by Roger Coreman

Those are about all I can think of which I would like to see remade. I'll post more when I'm less stressed for time.

I don't see why any remakes should make you guys freak out.
So long as the original lives on.

1) poor allocation of funds and resources that could be used for original projects
2) When I talk about the original, people think Im talking about the remake (which they are actually a fan of) and never realize what they are watching has already been done.
3) They encourage the stereotypes of Hollywood filmmaking like dependency on lead actors notability, dumbing down interesting and/or controversial issues, and relying on brainless visuals instead of GOOD storytelling

Theres been exceptions like any rule. They are nitpicky responses but theres more and more bland movies and less and less really great cinema. Remakes are partly to blame.

I've been a Dungeons and Dragons fan since I was five (hell, I grew up rolling d20s, it's practically my heritage), but we've got our real D&D movie: The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Instead of remaking those so-so (I enjoyed them on a stupid level, so they're not bad in my eyes) movies, let's get to work on getting the Dragonlance Saga, or some of the Drizzt Do'Urden stories, onto the silver screen.

True, there is an underwhelming amount of original content coming out of Hollywood, but then again there is a whole world of cinema out there filling in the gaps Hollywood is leaving in its wake.

If the remake is only being made to cash in on a formula that already worked, and won't contribute anything to the artistry or message of the original... Then I understand the angst.

If it can be approached from a different angle in a clever way while using star power and exploiting new technologies and budget boost then why not?

I guess I'm approaching this from a different view point because I am not much of a connoisseur of cinema... But the people who will mistake the remake for the original because they never knew of the original... Well... These things are lost on them anyways, they wouldn't of know of the original until you corrected them whilst taking about it!

I'm all for remakes/reboots of movies that had potential but flopped. This lends itself well to the superhero genre which we dearly love and yearn to have done right.

I support that. Any movie that had flopped big time Im all for. This is what remakes should be for.

To bad some movies seem to flop no matter how many times you remake them... I got my fingers crossed about the new Punisher though.

The Punisher won't do well. It's like TIH hype but worse. I just saw one tv spot for the film and it looks bad. Too much neon and the song that played in it sucked.

I bet alot of peole said, "Really? They're making a Punisher movie? It's a sequel?"

Everyone I've mentioned it too is under the impression it is a direct sequel with a different actor and are not at all impressed with the t.v. spots.

I've shown a few the red band trailer and they've had a change of heart. I'll see it though, it'll be fun to spot my old college and different parts of my city.

Well that's fine. But I predict it won't make alot of money at all. The TV spots haven't done a good job at bringing in an audience. Except the Punisher fans.

Yeah thats pretty much my feelings on the subject. Is it a stupid thing to do, remaking a classic film? Yes. Should it ruin your entire life and love of the original? No.

Ignore it, its that simple.

Actually to Jaws lovers like myself are getting a Jaws remake sometime in the next 5 years and they are even searching for a script writer righ now :(

is there a movie remakes that will make you.. happy thread ?

- Star Wars the original trilogy (This will happen in my lifetime too...mark.my.words)

Sure, George Lucas will do again the original trilogy in a near future. I´m sure... He´ll add more Yoda jumps, incredible (in a bad way) lightsaber fights and, of course, more "cute" aliens like Jar Jar Binks...

I´m afraid of the new RoboCop film. It´s not 100% a "remake" but for the info we got, Aronofsky wants to starts again all, doing a film "unrelated to the original"...:waa:

I was reading some article about an interest in a remake or fourth Back to the Future with Marty recast or his son being the main character. F***ing terrible idea!:waa:More tears for me. :( sad frog face.
