Remakes you want to see.

I think they should remake nothing because they all suck, and instead come up w/ some new ideas. I would like a sequel to Robocop though- definatley not a remake.

Right im sure there hasnt been a remake you have liked.

There's nothing wrong with that statement right there. I agree with this one whole heartedly. I dont want to see every movie get remade either, but movie can be remade and improved upon. Its your last statement that I disagree with, there have been remakes that have been far superior than the originals. So to say there should not be any remakes period is just like I said narrow minded.

The best remakes out there are remakes from very old things, like the maltese falcon being a remake of a very old film, the original version were so old they had yet to even understand cinema, but making films again that have already been done in the last 20 years etc, is madness.

Outland would be a cool flick to retry IMO.

Other good remakes: Oceans' 11, Scarface, The Thing, The Fly, Cape Fear, Dawn of the Dead not better but still solid, Thomas Crown Affair, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Italian Job, The Champ, DOA.

The movie industry does not revolve around you though. For instance many of the kids today never saw King Kong, War of the Worlds, Assault on Precinct 13, 3:10 to Yuma, when they were first made. Remakes can also help create awareness of the original as well.

Exactly this is just what I said yesterday in the total recall thread in reference to the escape from NY remake.

My digitally remastering and re-releasing is a much better idea. The clean up'd version of the Day the Earth stood still is great, really upps the production values.

but audiences of today won't be able to relate to the movie. it was made back in 51 when film-making was still fairly new. films have evolved and most of today's audience can't watch films from the past because their age shows regardless of how clean or colorful the movie is.

There has been roughly two- The Fly, The Thing. That is pretty much it.
I fooking HATE remakes, 99% of the time they suck dog balls.

Even worse is when a studio feels the need to remake classics like- TCM, Psycho etc, that really irks me. Can you believe next year Enter the Dragon is getting remade?! I despair.

An interesting case is th RE-IMAGINATION of enter the dragon, everything about it states it takes the basic idea then does something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT with it, making it only mildly familiar with the original, this is such a huge difference in both style and content, that it can barely be classed as a remake.

But with todays technology they could actually get the mechanical shark to work unlike say the original lol.

But thats what partially made jaws,the crappy shark mechanics. There are some films that never ever should be redone:

jaws,gone with the wind,wizard of oz,and im sure there are some others as well. Howerver; we are dealing with Hollywood,so no material is untouchable.

The thing? its already had a remake. the Host? not sure it just came out not to long ago. DD? nah,not a remake,a sequel.
Conan the Barbarian? I think theres one in the works.

Dawn of the Dead - did very well box office wise, and has been credited for restarting the Zombie genre. Also nominated for several awards.

King Kong - Yea it only won 3 oscars looked visual superior to the prior visuals

3:10 to yuma - Has an 83% rating on rotten tomatoes already.

Mean Machine - ska films remake of the longest yard, did so well overseas helped jumpstart the american remake.

Oceans 11 - Did so good brought about 2 more sequels

3:10 to yuma - Has an 83% rating on rotten tomatoes already. A film with fan favourite Christian Bale? I love the guy and all, but everything he does gets praise regardless. Russel Crowe has a similar effect also.

Mean Machine - ska films remake of the longest yard, did so well overseas helped jumpstart the american remake.This was very different to the original, it was the basic premise really, nothing much more in all honesty.

Oceans 11 - Did so good brought about 2 more sequels-It's basically just showing off people who are popular, people do it to see their fav stars, like in the 40's all over again.

I understand the purpose of the thread quite easily- it's for people to discuss what remakes they would like to see happen and why.

It will obviously be inferior? Bruce Lee was a great martial artist but wasn't a good actor, neither was the majority of the cast. Enter the dragon was essential a bunch of fights scenes pasted together with a brief and under developed unoriginal story. Bruce lee's popularity made this film successful and the action scenes.

you can argue with the visuals of some of these older films, the use of camera etc is much more expert, these new films have ONLY the effects.
