New info on RE4 edition (which I will probably avoid, seeing as I own the extras on the ps2 version and the cube version already) and Umbrella Chronicals:

Resident Evil 4 on Wii official, Umbrella Chronicles an on-rails shooter

Pity the Resident Evil fanatic. Not only has the poor guy had to buy two chainsaw controllers and brave two Resident Evil movies (and now suffers cold sweats anticipating the third), but according to Famitsu, he'll now have to buy a third version of Resident Evil 4, this time for Wii.

An intrepid NeoGAF member translated the info from the most recent issue of the Japanese magazine. The new version (presumably the unannounced game that Capcom hinted at last month) uses the Wiimote for aiming, naturally, but also uses it for stabbing zombies, as God intended. There's no word yet on whether or not it will reach North America, but a listing for the game briefly appeared on Gamestop's site, and the thing's already been localized once, so it would seem like a lock.

The scans say that the game will also include a trailer for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles which we know is due out before the end of 2007. Also, the Gamestop listing had the game set for June 25, so maybe you'll be whiling the summer days away holed up, slashing zombies -- suntan be damned! Speaking of Umbrella Chronicles, the same scans report the game will be an on-rails shooter that will reveal the fall of the Umbrella Corporation. Chris, Jill, Rebecca, and Albert Wesker will return for the game, all in glorious 480p widescreen.

Yikes, do you hear that sort of low, groaning noise? Oh, it's all the people who bought Resident Evil: Dead Aim. Don't worry you guys, there's no indication that the two are directly linked, save for both being Resident Evil games in first-person perspective. With Capcom Day set for April 12, more information on both titles will likely be on the way soon.

Personally, I think this is gonna be another poor port with wii controls tacked on (ala COD, Far Cry and others) but maybe Capcom will surprise me. Still looking forward to UC though.

If you get that for wii, it will be watered and cut down beyond belief.

I miss seeing you in more threads hippy :(

I rarely post in the Game forums here. Now these days I spend most of my time in the Community and Comics forums here at SHH and GR.

What is the point of bringing it to the Wii when the game is what like 3 years old and already playable on the system via the GC version? Is the Wii-mote really incentive enough to make a Wii version and have consumers shell out more money just to use that controller in this game? Really thats the only thing it has going for it, bc its not like the graphics will be improved in since the Wii isnt that much more powerful than a GC. It better come out with a discounted price and and more extras than the PS2 version

Kinda sucks to hear UC will be first person... but then again, wii does lack good shooter games... which is kinda an oxymoron.

Still, Capcom generally releases fantastic titles and unless this is like Dead Aim, I've got another Resident Evil to collect.

I just like that Jill is back, seriously I think they've forgot they have female characters in the Resident Evil series. :(

Umbrella Chronicles an on rails FPS? What the heck? As long as it's arcade/House of the Dead style, I'm fine with that but it better not play like it's pretending to be a real RE game.

Hmmm, if you read the talk back there is a guy there who is saying the translation was messed up and the magazine mentions NOTHING about the game being on rails.

Capcom will be making this about 10 hours long, most rail games don't last longer then 3. I highly doubt this is a rail shooter, until Capcom Day (sometime in April) I'll take everything I hear on this with a grain of salt.

I think an on-rails shooter (if it indeed turns out to be true, but like vader said, is by no means confirmed) could be done REALLY well. I mean look at the House of the Dead games. I doubt it will be an on-rails shooter when all is said and done, but I am confident it will turn out good either way.

I actually sort of hope that it's a 'balls to the walls' arcade style on rails shooter. That would be awesome. :(

I've been torn on which version of RE4 to rebuy, but I can't say the announcement of RE4 with waggle makes it any easier. I Hope they give you the option to sue classic controls/the Gamecube controller. I want a fall back in the new controls suck.

I have faith this will be good. I really hope so anyway. The graphics don't look half assed like the gun survivors at the very least.

why do you say that?
RE1: main characters male and female
RE2: main characters male and female
RE3: main character female and you can also play as a male
RE: CV: main characters female and male
RE0: main characters female and male
RE4: main character male

The thing about on-rails is while House of the Dead would rock on the wii.... its totally not what Resident Evil is about. Its one thing to go from survival horror to survival action... but survival shooter? Capcom tried that and it was awful on so many levels. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since the wii seems better adapted for shooters, but its not really RE.

Was Umbrella Chronicles supposed to come out before the summer ends?

Was gonna buy the Wii edition for RE4. Finished it on the GC, but never actually owned it. Heard the wiimote is actually damn good for it.

Found it my local supermarket, brand new...for £25. Went down there last night, only to find all the copies had gone...
:(

By that logic, then Resident Evil 4 is not really Resident Evil either. Come on, an RE game where ammo conservation is secondary, the puzzles are laughably easy, a focus on action and shooting, and an over the shoulder cam? That doesnt sound like RE to me. But it was. And Umbrella Chronicles looks awesome. We've already played RE0-3 as classic style RE games, and this is going to change nothing about those games, just give a different angle on them.

I never said I wasn't open to it. Hell, I'm more than sure I'll be picking this game up before reviews come in.

so what will the length of this title be like? Will it be about as long as each of the individual games its based on or will it be cut down?

That's quite a random and specific question there...for an unreleased game that is. :p

well many times developers tell consumers the length of the game. I know that Heavenly Sword for the PS3 will be about 12-15 hours for that reason

But Heavenly Sword has a way earlier release date. :D
