Resistance: 40 person multiplayer, 2 match types revealed, offline co-op confirmed

Yeah I really hate the faces in Oblivion. Every character I make has this ****ed up and disfigured facial structure, not to mention outrageously bad skin conditions. Seriously, they have vein stems everywhere and patches of different colored skin....and this is just when I have them on lowest Age possible

Wierd, I've actually successfully made some pretty good replicas in that game.

Gears of War has relatively low polygon detailed characters, they use normal maps for EVERYTHING, though. It wouldn't suprise me if Mass Effects characters had more physical detail to them. But Mass Effect has some nice hyper contrast lighting going on, it makes things look pretty cool.

Speaking of Mass Effect, can you be an alien species or are you restricted to human?

Insomniac is nota technical powerhouse as a dev, they were able to hide that a bit better in the Ratchet and Clank days with the style they went with but Resistance doesn't look bad, it's just not amazing. There is a nice amount of action hapening however.

Epic designed EU games in general as very graphically profitient, not just GeoW.

LOL.......CHECK OUT THESE NEW SCREENSHOTS.

SOMEBODY BETTER TELL THE GUYS AT 'INSOMNIAC', THEY ONLY HAVE A TAD OVER 4 MONTHS TO TURN THIS HALF-ASSED GAME INTO A 'PS3'-SELLER. :down:o

Hey Thwip I think you need to do a little bit more research before you come stumbling in this thread and talking S*IT. These screen shots are so old they were given out two months ago, stop going to great lengths to say how much this game sucks. Its obvious that you aren't impressed with the game or don't even like it so why do you keep coming into this thread? To get a rise out of some people?

You keep saying things that aren't even true about this game, like these screenshots being new, they aren't. Insomniac working on this game for more than seven months when I know almost everything about this game and they have only spent seven months on this game. Sure pre-production started in the beginning of 2005 but they've been developing this game for only seven months and I say it looks awesome.

Insomniac is a company thats working out of a garage they aren't a huge corporation like Bungie or Epic Games and maybe thats why they might not have that impressive of graphics to your standards but hey when does graphics make the game? I always thought it was gameplay and the story over everything else? Speaking of gameplay the Halo fanboys of X-Play have gone to great lengths to say that Resistance's gameplay can already surpass Halo's and at such an early stage to, tell me that isn't anything.

Oh wait you'll probable just say that Insomniac or Sony paid X-Play to say those things about the game. This game is going to be such a original game it won't even be funny. Insomniac takes pride in what they do and when they make games everyone has a say in what should or shouldn't happen while other major compaines leave it up to one man. Epic Games: Cliffy B. Halo: Jason Jones. Resistance is going to be a hit, you wait and see.

New Resistance Screenshots Fall In

"We've got some brand new visual ammunition for you, in the way of eight new images from Resistance: Fall of Man."

BESIDES THAT FACT, EVERY GAMING SITE THAT'S GOT THEM POSTED TODAY, ALSO SAYS THEY'RE "NEW". BUT, THAT'S NOT EVEN THE POINT; THE POINT IS, NEW OR OLD..........THEY DON'T LOOK A DAMN BIT DIFFERENT. IF THESE ARE "OLD", THEN SHOW ME THE "NEW" PICS THAT LOOK BETTER.

AND FORGET ABOUT YOUR FLIMSY "GARAGE-DEVELOPER" EXCUSES........THEY'VE BEEN 'SONY'- EXCLUSIVE FOR OVER A DECADE, AND 'SONY' HAS BACKED THEM THE WHOLE WAY. IF ANYTHING, NEXT TO AN 'SCEA' IN-HOUSE TITLE, THIS SHOULD BE THE BEST LOOKING GAME ON THE 'PS3' LAUNCH LIST. AND, AGAIN, THE REAL POINT IS, IT'S SO PATHETICALLY MEDIOCRE, COMPARED TO WHAT 'SONY' WANTS PEOPLE TO BELIEVE THE 'PS3' HARDWARE IS CAPABLE OF, BY DEFAULT. WHEN YOU FINALLY WAKE UP AND REALIZE WHAT THAT MEANS, I'LL BE HERE TO WIPE YOUR TEARS AWAY AND PAT YOUR BACK. :o

Relatively? Relative to what, Square-Enix CGI? Back when the engine was announced, which showed long-gone character models, Epic said characters had between 3,000-4,000 polygons.

I don't know where they are now, but the game is looking even better.

And everything uses normal mapping on everything nowadays. I'm sure even the crappy Wii graphics will chug that out. The Xbox 1 did in it's later games.

It wouldn't suprise me if Mass Effects characters had more physical detail to them. But Mass Effect has some nice hyper contrast lighting going on, it makes things look pretty cool.
I still think GoW has better character models. We can get into a screenshot war later when I'm not cooking dinner.

Speaking of Mass Effect, can you be an alien species or are you restricted to human?
You probably can only be human. Why would you want to be an alien?

Insomniac is just a Naughty Dog tech leech.

EU? Do you mean UE3?

It's the best we have. I think it's very well done and very extensive. The best you can do without manually tweaking each vector yourself.

ACTUALLY, 'FNR3' DOES IT BETTER, AND WITH MUCH GREATER DETAIL........BUT THEN AGAIN, IT'S NOT A MASSIVE, FREE-ROAM RPG EITHER. :o

TO get back on topic, I know Resistance is NOT the best looking game, and I dislike Insomniac mainly as to their Ratchet and Clank and Spyro but Resistance looks like it could be a more fun game then say PDZ (Oh I went there!!!!:O).

ANYWAY!!!!!

Some more info on the multiplayer(posted in another thread a few days ago):

"You can Play as either a human or a Chimeran Hybrid (the nasty fellow on this issue's cover), and each has its own advantages: double-tapping the L2 button will make a human sprint, or send a Hybrid into Rage mode, making his attacks more damaging, there is a trade-off for raging, however: you're constantantly heating up, and if you overheat, your life will start to drain. Furthermore, while a human will regain full health if he can avoid taking damage for a short time, Hybrids can't heal until their Rage meter has completely recharges.

Flat, circular fans are embedded in the ground in various places, and walking over one will launch you up to a higher area, one fun strategy we found was to balance ourselves at the top of the column of air, hovering there while firing down at enemies below; the up-and-down bobbing motion can make you a hard target.

Another nice new touch is that the weapon-spawn pods are circled by a series of lights that count down to the time a weapon will reappear. The radar in the upper-right corner of the screen shows all nearby enemies and allies unless they are slowly crouch-walking or standing still without firing. there is jumping in the game, but on a smaller, more realistic scale(it's nothing like those floating Halo-style leaps).

As an FPS fan would expect melee attacks are very powerful-two will drop an enemy to zero health, and just one hit will do it from behind. Also, the game will support full voice chat through the PS3's standard network chat function(no word yet if a headset will come bundled with the hardware). The game will have a full-featured online ranking system but Insomniac is keeping the details secret for now. they did stress that a big focus is being put on smart matchmaking, so that a new player who buys Resistance a year after launch will be able to play without having to get torn apart by the guys who bought the game on day one.

There will also be the option tp play unranked matches where the player will be able to configure the game however he wants by tweaking areas such as hit points, weapon sets, and much more. Popular player-created configurations may even be made into official new modes by Insomniac and offered as downloads. Conversely, ranked matches will have very limited configurations to keep the playing field level and fair for everone.

A couple of other notes to mention before we move on; map knowledge isn't as important in Resistance as it usually is in an FPS. This is because a lot of work has been put into designing the levels so that there isn't that typical one spot that everone rushes towards to grab the best weapon. Also, the game will run locked at 30 frames-per-second online and off, no matter how much action is going on. 60fps had been the plan, but the developers decided to add much more environmental destruction and special effects, so the tradeoff was made. Even in it's work-in-progress stage, we found that the game ran plenty smooth enough. "

INSOMNIAC IS THE BASTION OF ORIGINALITY!!! :o

I didn't like PDZ that much either, but at least it had good graphics.

Hah, they can't even make their own engines, let alone ideas. R&C is a Conker rip-off.

Dude you guys know nothing! The graphics look intense! Check out the new PSM and you'll like what you see, trust me the demo pictures are just rips compared to what the actual game looks like. The main character has a rocket launcher and there are these really freaky looking guys that are leaping after him. The main characters looks like a very good render as well. I'll try and post the pictures.

As for stealing Naughty Dogs engine dude they stopped doing that. Insomniac only used naughty dawgs engines for Ratchet and Clank thats it they aren't on a technological basis anymore. Insomniac also brought a ton of stuff to the table when Naughty Dawg was trying to make Jack and Daxter.

It says in the magaizine that the graphics are so amazing they don't need to pull a god of war and have pre-rendered videos they can just use the in-game graphics and you're still in awe.

Check out the highlights this guy has been posting.

My kid just got his Sept. PSM mag.

In it they have an extensive article on Resistance Fall of Man including hands on play online play with 40 people.

There is also an extensive interview with the head of insomniac, Ted Price.

The Game will be in 720p, 5.1 surround sound and run at a solid 30 fps. They could go 1080p 60 fps but instead decided to add more physics and particle effects as well as the number of asset items displayed on the screen at the same time.

All the games cinematics will use in game assets, the game assets are so amazing they don't need extra prerendered video.

The game will utilize the tilt features as way of breaking an enemy's grip when they are holding you as well as other uses not being disclosed at this time. *edit * tilt will not be used for FPS aiming or walking but possibly for stearing, flying or even aiming a homing missle (PSM speculation)

The game will be on Blu ray disk and use a lot of the extra available space. The disk will include all versions of the game in both PAL and NTSC and all the language tracks. Because of the Blu ray it allows them to produce a game that would be impossible to fit on a DVD. This saves a lot of time and shipping costs, because it's all on one worldwide disk. It also allows for more assets and greater content, One of the ways they are using the extra space is higher bitrate audio and more dialogue so your enemy and comrades will not say the same thing on every level.

PSM: "So I will be able to play the Japanese version of the game on my US PS3."
Ted Price: "Yes."

There is also another article about COD3 where they say The PS3 version of COD3 will be an exponentially improved version not possible on lesser powered consoles. This is also why it will not be released on the PC. This is not going to be a upscaled version of COD2, it is entirely new from the ground up. When asked what was the most difficult part of making COD3 they said creating the other versions like the PS2 and (other) versions and still make it as good game play wise, but graphically nothing will come close.

Because of the Cell a unique features they can pull off in the PS3 is a global wind. When you throw smoke or a tank fires you will see the smoke shift as the wind blows including individual blades of grass reacting to the effect. Another thing they talked about are soft targets. Hiding behind a fence post won't seem like a good idea as the enemy shoots it down to fire wood. In turn if you begin to shoot at an enemy behind a wooden crate they will run for more solid cover exposing themselves. The soft target effect even applies to smoke where as you shoot you see the smoke react and the bullet punching a hole in it.

They covered a lot in this mag. It was a good read.

Before you bash this read the mag. nothing is embellished and everything is paraphrased in direct context to the articles.

Okay you're entitled to your own opinion and please do not take this the wrong way but I just want to understand. Dude how can you say that this is like Gears of War, this story is so much more creative and its not about aliens being under ground and it doesn't take place on a planet thats fiction. This game takes place on Earth and in the past not the future where everyone can just make up stuff and give off that futuristic vibe. This game has to deal with real life scenarios to bring the game to life and the graphics are impressive. I like the Chimera more than the locoust horde just because the horde is sort of werid looking because they are big and bulky and don't look that much diffrent from the opposing force like Marcus. All they have is scales. While the Chimera has werid tubes huge disgusting teeth eight eyes.

But like I said you are entitled to your opinion and we'll see how the game turns out when its released. :D

PSM is stuck so far up Krazy Ken's and Kaz's asses that I'm afraid to even glance at one of their articles.. and also.. by the time PS3 comes out, PC will be much improved over it.. so I don't know why it wouldn't work on the PC? Also, PS3 is known to have near the same specs as X360.. hardly any better.. just harder to develop on with an inferior GPU. PSM is a Sony fanboys mag.. not a gamers mag :down

The white creatures you see those were freshly converted chimera, humans into chimera, it also shows in the magazine some kind of factory you have to assault sometime in the beginning, with all these pods hanging from the ceiling, and thats how they convert human into chimera, with these pod things, it also says that the chimera set up large scale "production plants" where they send a lot of humans to be turned into chimera, in one level you actually have to escape from one because you've been captured and are being sent there

Now that's such a ****ing rip-off of Quake IV. Wow.. Now I don't even want to hear anymore about this game. I'm CERTAIN now that it is a rip-off of at least one game. Also.. that global wind **** has already been done. OBLIVION. You should play more X360 games, get out more, and maybe not read so many Sony fanboy mags.

It'd do you a world of good.

Saying they're ripping off Oblivion is pushing it. :o Extromaniac, we were all getting along so well, now look what you've done. :(

Actually Resistance is entirely in house for Insomniac.
