Comics Resolution!

Once again...You stated that the article said that the Clone Saga was a complete disaster. Like I said, that's a stretch. The article pretty much said that the Clone saga started out great and had some great ideas but Marvel tried to Milk it and then it just ran WAY too long for its own good. Peter's parents turning into "robots" wasn't the start of the Clone Saga. The 90's clone saga pretty much kicked off when Peter and Ben meet on top of the hospital roof top.

Yeah... the robot parents first appeared around ASM #365 (August of 1992), and the Clone Saga began more or less around Sept. 1994 when Ben & Pete first meet (even though we had a few months of "mysterious" figure calling Aunt May before then).

And I don't think Marvel tried to milk the Clone Saga... I think that was more of a result of "undecisiveness" on Marvel's part to either part ways with Peter and keep Ben (or not)...

No, there was some definite "milking" going on, and Life of Reilly goes into that. For example, 2-part stories would be extended to 4-part so they could sell more issues, or they would publish stories that ended up not leading anywhere or serving the main plot (e.g. the story where the New Warriors try to keep Peter from killing MJ).

And the robot parents thing was close enough. =P They went from that, to "I am the Spider!" to Pete and Ben meeting for the first time. All pretty terrible, as far as storytelling goes, and it just nosedived when the Clone Saga proper really got rolling.

Plus, there was Maximum Carnage around that era....God, the 90s were awful to Spider-Man.

Right.... don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia... if you've got a more reliable source, then please post a link...

No problem.

It's not from wiki, it's from the Life Of Reilly article. It's a 35 part column detailing the entire Clone Saga along with comments from people working on the Spider-Man titles at the time.

Jurgens came on board with Sensational right when Ben Reilly was hitting his stride as the "new" Spider-Man... if he wanted to wait to write about Peter Parker, all hehad to do was wait another 5 months, because when he left with issue #6, by issue #11 "Revelations" was in the works and Peter was re-established as the "main" guy at that point.
Jurgens wanted Peter back as Spider-Man as soon as possible, but it kept getting delayed. After hearing that it was going to be delayed another five months, he left the title altogether in frustration.

I know that there was a LOT of back'n forth during the Clone Saga, but a LOT of that was prior to Jurgens even coming on board, and I remember at the time, when Jurgens left, he left because he was in disagreement of the direction of the character, but HE CAME ON BOARD as the guy to create a NEW SUPPORTING CAST for Ben Reilly... why would he do that in the first place if he was uninterested in writing about Ben Reilly? And then once he's gone (as writer/artist), Marvel quickly drops all the people he introduced and killed Ben and brought back Peter in the suit within 6 months... Don't you think if he REALLY wanted to write about Peter Parker, he could have waited it out? Remember... a certain amount of time goes by between writing & publishing, so at worst, maybe 2 or 3 months was between when he decided to leave, and when they started to plan the return of Peter... your theory seems to unbelievable to me...

:yay:
It's not a theory. It's fact. As for why he wasn't willing to wait, it seems he didn't know exactly how long it would end up being and simply quit.

It's a shame that Jurgens felt that way, because his work is one of the reasons many of us (myself included) liked Ben so much. He might not have liked what he was doing, but he sure did it well.

I still say have Peter wake up one day to find MJ in the shower and realize that the last 30 or so issues were all a dream.

I would actually love this especially if it was written in a funny quirky way through out; weirder and weirder things that branch off into hilariously bizarre (in a good way, not a horrific "please God make it stop" way) then things end up with Peter bolting upright confused and relieved to find MJ in the shower.

"No more midnight snacks while watching Neon Genesis Evangelion! I swear!"

Problem solved! :woot:

also another take on the waking up, it all could turn out he took the bullet and was in a coma then eventually wakes up. to find MJ and Aunt May who've been visiting him once a day for the past year.

plus Norman Osborn is in charge of everything right now that just screams bad dream or coma fantasy for Peter

I mean an easy solution to why everything in the Marvel Universe that Pete was dreaming about happened can easily be solved by oh his TV was on in the room and he heard all the news about the super heroes. I mean we are into quick easy solutions right Joe Quesada

Thank you! I've said before, the robot parents, for me, was Spider-Man "jumping the shark." That lead right into "I am the Spider" (an obvious attempt to mimic the whole Batman-Dark Night thing) and Clone Saga. Then there was the whole Gathering of the Five, reboot, MJ killed in exploding plane, MJ alive but separated, Sins of the Past, the Other, unmasking, OMD, BND . . .

Clone Saga is when I came into Spidey and thus holds a special place in my heart. Plus, Ben Reilly rocked.

Yah, he did. At least we finally get a new Ben Reilly story next month.
