I do like that costume.
thank you. It has taken a lotta work to go back and find all these scans. This thread is amazing by the way....
A few of those AoA scans were drawn by Steve Epting. Apparently, back in the day he was another Jim Lee clone.Joe Madureira's figures were so elongated back then...
Well I mean noticably he went from using really overly dramatic muscles on his characters (like Lee) down to using a more photorealistic interpretation of the human form.I wouldn't call him a Jim Lee clone. He wasn't as good back then as he is now, but I personally loved all of his work on Avengers, including the stuff from Blood Ties that you posted up there.
What do you think of Tom Palmer's inking?Epting's Avengers work was phenomenal.
He's generally regarded as second only to Captain America, as far as I've heard.

90s Cyclops versus Sinister
That should just tell you how badass he is. He got Mr. Sinister to run away like a scared, little child from a man in yellow loafers. Those are some manly yellow loafers Scott's wearing.![]()
I love Palmer's work, too. I've noticed a lot of really similar elements on the finished art no matter whose pencils he's inking, though, so I was wondering if he sometimes overpowers the penciler's lines with his own. I know Jerry Ordway does that because I saw pencils and finished art that he did with John Byrne, and Byrne's pencils were drastically different--like, characters were in different positions and stuff before Ordway inked the art. It's true. Cyclops was trained by Cap, too.
Love it. For my money, if anyone's going to ink Epting, Palmer's the guy. As much as I like Perkins, I think he's better suited to pencil. Epting and Palmer doing that Avengers run was the perfect mix of old and new school.![]()

When did Cap train Cyclops?
