Ran mostly in the ninties...I'm actually surprised it hasn't returned.

It was meant to be something along the lines of Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit issues

Ahh yes. remember them well.

I think Image & Chaos ruined the idea of swimsuit specials by creating lots of bad ones.

They were pretty cool. Image and Chaos basically made them into jack off material.

I don't know why I think this...but this seems like something Quesada would happily ressaurect.

Probably not, frankly, I know us geeks love boobies and such, but I don't think there's a market for this at this point.

Wait... there was a market for it back then?

There is a Market for all those "Marvel Handbooks" and "[Mega Event] Previews" which are essentially just the art. Plus, they constantly give out pinups in Wizard and as give-aways...I cannot imagine they couldn't sell these. I mean they can sell you 5 X-Men titles, and they have artists like Frank Cho who essentially owe their careers to drawing stuff like this.

Of course then there is also the sales of Maxim Magazine, Esquire, and all these others which are essentially just that.

These pin-ups just aren't as exciting as they were when I was 13.

Yeah, but handbooks are not really that profitable, Joey Q has said as much, its a niche thing with those. Sure they can make a Swimsuit special, but how well can it sell when you have the internet and millions of porn websites, something that was just coming of age in the early 90's.

You could make that same argument against a lot of magazines.

Yeah, I remember.:D:up: Some of the "commercials" and "sponsor ads" were hilarious. If you're gonna post pics of them the Black Widow totally deserves to be there. Some of the Image ones were kind of good, I really dug the metallic effect they did with Void as one of the centerfolds.

I think Marvel could do something new with this; they already have contracts for real world product placements. We've seen how video game characters have made the jump to other magazines (Playboy and Maxim, I think) so it's not inconceivable that if they use the right talent for this it could re-start a trend.

Man, I can't wait for that crazy Kitty fanboy to come in here.
