Reviews of Watchmen

Best written work of all time. Comic or otherwise. Alan Moore could be an amazing writer in any medium. The characters are amazing. I love Gibbon's art in the book as well.

sounds good, I not done reading it, but its very intrigueing

As I said in another thread, I got it the year it came out and it pretty much changed comics from a casual thing to a serious art form for me. It is crafted PERFECTLY. The writing and images are truly one. It qualifies as genius.

And it still holds up. That says something.

Its imporant for the superhero genre, but, I dunno, felt somewhat underwhelmed by the whole experience.

Brilliant stuff. The characters in Watchmen felt more "real" to me, than any other characters in a comic book/graphic novel. I think what helped is that they didn't adhere heavily to the archetypes of the characters. The majority of heroes and villains who were flawed and felt like people you could know in real life. And then with more extraordinary characters like Rohrshach and Dr. Manhattan, Moore went all out and delved so heavily into their psyche that the reader is beyond fascinated. Pure genius on every level.

I wouldnt call it THE BEST EVER, but for its time its pretty damn good. Soon as I picked it up I couldnt put it down. Great characters and alan moore is beyond talented

Just out of curiosity, what do u mean by 'for it's time', considering it holds up today as much as it did back then.

Also curious to know what graphic novel you would consider a superior piece of work?

Not just a great graphic novel, but one of the most engaging, emotional, and damn right thrilling reads of my life

i nearly cried at the end but then got happy when i saw what happened great novel ****in beast

my favorite comic books/graphic novels ever. one of the greatist comic books/graphic novels ever. hands down.

The greatest comic book story/graphic novel of all time and one of my favourite stories ever.

The greatest graphic novel ever written, and simply the most readable and enoyable stories in recent history. It's my favorite piece of fictional writing, with so much value in re-reading, so much depth, characterization and meaning. It's a masterpiece in modern fiction, not the best, but certainly one worthy of it's acclaim.

I have read it once a week since last January...if that doesn't tell you anything,I don't know what will;)

It's hard to explain what I think of Watchmen.

It's not my favorite graphic novel, it's up there, but not my favorite. But I do think it's the best graphic novel of all time. Like, when I started reading it and then finished it I just nodded and said, "Yup. I could see why people say this."

I enjoy reading it. I've read it more than once. And I love it. But I don't know, I get more joy out of other graphic novels. I can't explain it really.

I believe Watchmen is the best graphic novel there is but just not my favorite.

Make sense?

that definitely makes sense!
although when i read watchmen i realized it was the best gn and it was also my favorite. all the characters were so strong and the story was so smart(had to read it twice to figure it all out)....it blew me away

i read it a couple days ago. It's just as good as I thought it would be. (and i had high expectations)

what I didn't like about it was that ridiculous squid at the end, the fact that parts of night owls costume resembled batmans costume TOO closely, and that some parts where so graphic that at times it got in the way of my enjoyment of the story.

over all, 1 of my top 3 favorite graphic novels I've ever read. (right now it's tied w/ the long halloween and and dark victory.)

The single greatest mainstream comic book in history. In a word: Stunning.

I agree with Octavious. It probably does deserve the title of best, but The Dark Knight Returns will always be my favorite.

BTW Anton, great name.

hmm, well not to brag or anything, but i've only read it once so far, and i'm not really confused about anything. that's not to say I wouldn't discover some new aspects the next time i read it. but i think it did a god job of explaning things and tying up the stories.

AMAZING!

I loved everything about the graphic novel. The colours, the story line, the characters. It's just what graphic novels should be.

Watchmen is the best story ever told in terms of Graphic Novels. There are so many different ideals, characters, interpretations. It's one of the few graphic novels that doesn't have a hero or a villain. The art is beautiful and black freighter is such a good side story. It really does a great job summing up America and World Politics. I hail it as the best graphic novel. I read for the first time 6 years ago and i still read it till this day.
