I really want to see this movie, I have not read the graphic novel though. So what should I do? Watch the movie and then read the graphic novel, or Read the graphic novel before the movies comes out? Help!! :)

Yes.

I first found out about Watchmen when I went to see TDK, and that immediately sparked my interest.

I decided to read the graphic novel, and I'm glad I did. It makes me appreciate what I've seen so far much more than if I had no clue what's going on.

the answer with book to movie adaptations is always yes.

I would definitely recommend reading the graphic novel, that way going into the movie you won't feel lost. It's a pretty complex story, so you may need to read it a couple of times to mull it over.

Yes. It's such a great book, and reading the book or playing the video game(etc...) before watching movie adaption is always wise.

Same here. Just finished reading it. Great graphic novel, but not my all time fave.

Read it. I'm a little afraid that they've dumbed down the movie version, so you should definately experience the comic. Besides, they're gonna have different endings.

I clicked no.
I just finished reading it.
I now know that I won't possibly be able to enjoy the movie the way I might have had if I hadn't been exposed to this masterful piece of literature which cannot possibly be translated with due justice to the big screen.

Yeah but you don't know that yet do you? No one here has seen the movie, so it's too early to make assumptions. Unless you are one of those people that refuse to see it just because of a few minor alterations.

I'll be there opening night, but I find it imposible to replicate what I experienced reading it, all the things like the end of chapters, all the fine detail.

The movie looks like it is shaping nicely, much nicer then if FOX and Mark Steven Johnson had been attached.

First, you should've already read it. But that's forgivable. Second, I think you should read the graphic novel ASAP. Read it and enjoy the story and the depth of the story and the art and love it. Then by March you'll be ready for a movie.

This is unlike many other comic movies in that it will need to be alot like the book in order for it to be a good movie. I think that if you watch the movie first then read the novel you'll wind up with mixed feelings about the novel which I'm almost sure is going to be superior in every way to the movie.

Another I have to add is this, read it before coming on these boards.
There are so many little plot details floating around here.

I hadn't read I am Legend and enjoyed the movie alot while my buddy had real issues with the movie because he couldn't separate it from the book.

Take it as you will, but the book will always be there and if they change anything you wouldn't know until later anyway.

So I vote No.

Well, it really depends on if you are a type of person who want to be surprised by what they read, or surprised by what they see. For example, my friend and I are big Harry Potter fans (please don't flame meeee!) and we would always read the books before the movies. That way we could chat about it, and get excited about things we knew were in the book that we really couldn't wait to see in the movie. My friend's mom, on the other hand, refuses to read the books till the movies come out. That's just how she is. She's a very visual person. But with a book as multi-layered as this one, with many different sub-plots in one, I would recommend reading it before seeing the movie. My friends who haven't read it (which is all of them :whatever: ) seem rather confused by the trailers and have no idea what exactly is going on.

Dr. Manhattan trying on different pairs of black undies for 2 and 1/2 hours would be better then any trash Mark Steven Johnson directs.

Seriously.

Mark Steven Johnson couldn't direct people away from fire much less a Watchmen movie.

I didn't know who he was...then I looked him up... Now I wish I hadn't...

I feel TERRIBLE for the alternate universe that has to sit through his version of Watchmen...

Novel first. That way you'll like the movie as much as you can.... then read the graphic novel.

If the film is an adaptation, always read the book first. If their is a book based on the film, skip it unless it's a graphic novel (in which case read it AFTER the film)

The book was terrible, so I would suggest not reading
it. I'm sure the movie will be horrible too. Don't waste your money.

Wow.

And you're here because............?

Oh god oh god oh god, read before you see trust me this is a piece of literary history that is not to be missed. Especially if you lived through the times it is about. I swear to you this is the best comic series you will get your hands on without spending over $100. I don't care if anyone chastises me or gets me in trouble for the caps lock, if this post gets one more human to read this book it would have been worth it. The only bad thing about this book is that it makes you mad that their are almost no other comics like it. If you take nothing away from what is said on this forum please take this: If you enjoy comics you will be blown away by this series.

I said no for the reason stated before.
No matter how faithul the movie will be it can never capture the magic of the comic.

for example, I liked the V for Vendetta movie when I first saw it.
Then I read the book, and I loved that too.

Now I can't stand the movie. BUT, I least I managed to enjoy both.
