I bought the Hulk DVD the other day and sat down and rewatched it. The only time I had seen the movie was in the theater and i did enjoy it but I remember coming out a bit exhausted. I never understood the hate for this movie, but I agreed that it was flawed at the time. Too many scenes at night hiding the Hulk, the over-acting of Nolte and the whole father thing in general was way to heavy handed.

After rewatching I have to say its way better then I remember. The father stuff didn't bother me as much. The CGI Hulk still holds up compared to movies like Spidey and SR today. The split screen stuff was brillant, never distracting and would love to see it in the sequel. The acting was great, the dogs no where near as annoying as the first time I saw it. I still feel it was a bit heavy handed, but it was a depressing orgin story so I dont hold that against it.

The thing is, like BB and SR, it has a real story and the action fits into that story. As an adlut I appreciate that and enjoy that a lot more then some action flick.

Its jumped into my top five superhero comic adaptions.

BRING BACK LEE and lighten up the sequel a bit. Nothing more needs to be done to make another great HULK film. If not him I would vote for Paul Greengrass or Doug Liman, the directors behind the Bourne series. Kind of the same idea. A hunted man that doesnt know himself.

So I am glad I rewatched it and looking forward to a sequel.

If everyone did this, Universal Studios would be filming Hulk2 right now:)

Exactly, most people who dont like the movie dont realise that it takes at least 2 viewings (probably more) to completely get this movie. I'm not saying its hard to understand, but a lot of people complain about the build-up to the first Hulk-out without realising the build-up has huge significance on the rest of the story.

I loved this movie the moment I seen it. The only thing different I would have liked is for them to have had Hulk talk. I really hope they get the same actors for the sequel. I agree the sequel should be lighter but hopefully not dumbed down.

Doubtful. I saw it again after I watched it in the theatre, and it's still a snore-fest.

Marvel knows what they are doing. They need to do this character justice. Their little (big) art-house experiment was a bold move, but it backfired on them. First impressions are everything. Hopefully the taste of this film will have completely washed out of the public's mouth once the relaunch is out.

And hopefully they get the relaunch right.

I couldnt disagree with you more LC.

Heh, hardly matters. Marvel disagrees with the Hulk lovers, and is remaking this film.

Thank God. :)

not a remake BTW, just to be clear

The thing that always irked me about Hulk when I first watched it is how much it deviates from the tone of the character in the comic books and also some of the mythology of the character.

Ang Lee constructed a world where if you experiment on your genes, inhale some nanites, and then blast yourself with gamma radiation, you get a superpower based on your personal mental illness! WTF?

The one superhero movie I just wanted to be a dumb action film was instead turned into a melodrama about child abuse. So, of course I watch it all the time and enjoy it quite a bit. It's just that the film is almost like a doppelganger impersonating a Hulk movie.

But dont you think its more interesting that way? I did

With a suit?! Please tell me that your not buying that crap:o

I hadn't seen Hulk for a while as I've been busy recently, though I caught it last night on ITV2, and it's even better than I remembered.

I did the same thing last weekend. Loved it!!!!!!!! I thought Nolte did an excellent job. The cgi is still really good.

Hulk never really Smashed. Hulk's a beast. Beast's throw crap, they beat up crap. Beast's beat up dogs, but dogs don't stand a chance. And why the heck would they ruin an amazing villain with his dad? If they added more Hulk Smash and added humor and didn't drag out the story line, it would be fine. the story they come up with is fine, I have nothing wrong with that. Actually I love the book, but they needed to lighten it up a big bit on screen and add more action.

I thought there was plenty of action, i mean he is the Hulk for 40mins in one whole sequence, you cant ask for much more than that.

the hulk is a film that grows on you, it isn't one to be swallowed up intially by the masses.

best of all, it's quite timeless and i doubt it will date, nor does it sugar coat life which tends to make some superhero films quite annoying to watch the older you get. the optimism of some of the spidey films is really terrible as well as the childish antics shown in some of the x-men films.

i'll tell you what's timeless, the hulk picking up that dog and slapping it, it's awesome....

punching it in the nuts... :(

nah, i prefer the slap before hand, the nut punching was good but that slap makes a timeless noise and so does that dog....

not to mention the part right at the end when the dog is biting the hulk and his shoulder grows and it breaks its jaw, that' pure genius, i couldn't have thought of that.

magnifico....

the shoulder bit is awesome, shame we may not get something like this in the sequel.

i can understand people moaning about the hulk's size in some scenes because it made him hard to interact with on a personal level but i think the growing aspect is genius,

many people dont realise that size is one large limitation when it comes to abilities and we are just going to get a less strong representative.

I mean with superman returns raising the bar on strength feats, i don't think making the hulk any smaller in some cases would help in proving he's the strongest one there is.

all they should be thinking about is perhaps shriking him to talk interact with humans better, his first transformation size should have just been a lil smaller, that's all, no big deal and maybe he shouldn't had beenso big when he first transformed in the hulk base but to be fair he was also antagonised which made him really hugh really quickly.

 I bought this the other day as well and will watch it for the first time since 2003

Hulk is definately underrated by many people who are not willing to give it another chance. The people who were have come on here to show a new appreciation for the movie which is great.

Hope you enjoy it Hunter Rider, you'll need to watch at least twice more.

I've also never been able to understand how so many people loathe this flick. My chief concern prior to it's release was that it would be too simplistic like the old TV series. That wasn't the case. In fact, the pendulum may have swung a little too far in the other direction. There were scenes and themes that were overdone and plodding but the overall payoff more than made up for that. I don't see the need for a relaunch.
