If only we could combine both Hulks, we'd have the perfect Hulk film.

Is it possible to enjoy the direction of the newest Hulk film more, but think Ang Lee's Hulk film was the superior product?

The newest Hulk film reminded me of the Bruce Jones run which is one of my favorite Hulk comic runs. It even leads into a final scene where it appears Bruce Banner can control and merge with his Hulk character which is sort of what happens at the end of the Bruce Jones run as Hulk becomes smart again. I liked how it was more "comic booky" in its plot. I also thought Ed Norton was a far better Bruce Banner than Eric Bana. I like how it makes fun of the purple spandex pants but....

Having said all that, I still think Ang Lee's Hulk was the superior product. I hated the direction and the emphasis on psychological undertones and father-son hate. I hated how the biggest enemy was some wierd version of his father. But I thought the Hulk was better portrayed in Ang Lee's version. He appears more powerful. He throws tanks a mile, he jumps two miles, and his facial expressions and movement are much more realistic. I also thought the bigger budget showed. It just felt like a more polished product.

I wish we could combine both Hulk films into one film. :csad:

Replace Ang Lee's wierd father-son dimensions with more of a suspenseful chase theme like the new film.
Replace the awkward CGI look of the newest Hulk with the more natural look of Ang Lee's Hulk.
Replace the gimmicky purple pants of Ang Lee's Hulk with the more realistic jeans of the newer Hulk.
Replace the impromptu villain of Ang Lee's Hulk with a classic comic book villain like the newest Hulk.
Replace the newer powered-down new Hulk who is afraid of bullets with Ang Lee's powerful version.

I'm not happy with either version. Neither of the two films left me thinking "WOW" like Iron Man or Batman Begins. I never felt like either version captured the true essence of Hulk although I thought both were decent attempts. Nowhere near as corny as Daredevil.

I agree with you... somewhat. He should've had the same physical power in TIH that he had in Ang Lee's film. Unfortunately, the downside is his looks. Fluorescent green doesn't blend well with the surroundings and his face looks like a grown up baby. And, as you said, the psychological undertones. There's no need for that much deep psychology... in a HULK movie. Not even the TV series went that far.

I agree with almost all points, except..

I agree with Jusdon, that I prefer a darker shade green than what Ang gave us, and...
I do want some psychology. Not as heaped on as Ang gave us, but you can't brush that essential piece of Hulk under carpet..especially if you want sequels, 'cause they are going to have to explore that aspect to keep it lively.

I agree that the "true" Hulk is somewhere in the middle of the two films....

Are you calling The Incredible Hulk a wuss because he shielded himself from being shot at constantly? Just because bullets bounced off the Hulk in the first movie doesn't mean that he didn't feel any pain from the impact of the bullets on his flesh. IMO Hulk was smart to use those shields to protect himself whether he realized he was invulnerable to physically being hurt by the gun shots or not, plus it set up weapons for the Hulk to use against the military later on in the scene.

well think about it the hulk in the lee film was relatively "young" in that he was only fully transformed(and therefore been born) for the timline of the movie

Perfect answer.I have been saying that myself for months.

Ummmm... do really think Daredevil was worse than Hulk 1?

If so why?

I ask because I enjoyed your insight on the Hulk.

Maybe I just don't see it.

It wasn't the best but I thought it was better than Hulk 1.
