Donner is from the old school of directing; don't rush everything, let the scenes play out, give the actors space to breathe, make sure the story flows properly, don't call attention to yourself.

90% of modern day directors should be sent to work under Donner and learn how it's done properly.

I kinda agree. I have nothing against a director having style. Thats why I like Leone, Kubrick, Burton, etc.

Absolutely, an artist has to express themself. But you learn how to hold the brush properly first, then paint in your own style.

No. Second. His first was a movie titled X-15 which was released in 1961. Donner has said over the years in interviews that he didn't feel ready for movies till The Omen.
