I was just reading my Wizard magazine when I got to the part of richard Donner talking about how he wanted to make Superman III with Brainiac and since he didn't, that's what an upcoming arc in the Superman comic is going to basically be. I started thinking of Superman III and realized that, sure it had the genius guy, but was that suppose to be Brainiac originally? Did Donner have any of III plotted before WB gave him the axe or was the genius thing just a very sad coincidence? anyone know?

I think the plan was to go to Brainiac for III, if Donner was still at the helm.

But since he wasn't, III turned into pure camp and a comedy starring Richard Pryor.

Donner said that he and Mankelweitcz (sp) had a few films planned and figured out while making STM and S2. They had at least 4 or 5 films already planned.

Richard Pryor was never intended to be Brainiac.

Pryor wa signed up after Superman II was released in cinemas. Pryor was on a talk show, and excitedly acted out the battle scenes in Superman II (he does the same act in Superman III). Producers saw this and got him involved.

Yeah, Prior was very popular at the time and said he´d love to be in a Superman movie... That´s how things went back then... If they did the same these days, Freddie Prinze Jr would have been Spider-Man...

Good call. Sam Raimi actually said something like, "If I had my way, Freddie Prinze Jr would not even be allowed to watch Spider-Man."

Absolutely true.

Jage Gyllenhall (sp?) would be best for SM imo.

I read that the original plan for SIII was to have mxyzptlk and brainiac, but after numerous re-writes and treatments, mxy, the trickster comedian, became gus gorman. and Brainiac became the self-sustaining supercomputer in the last act.

But he's not so you are just going to have to deal. I have to deal with casting that I don't care for all of the time.

He came oh-so-very close to replacing Tobey in Spidey 2.
