Caught Chronicles on TV tonight. Forgot how much I enjoyed it. Love the visual design and the acting is a fun slice of ham. Can't wait for the new film.

The only thing I didn't like was the Alien bird in the beginning. Conceptionally it's awesome but damn it looks so fake. I mean, the textures are all blurry looking. Hopefully Mr. Birdo will look better by Sept.

If the budget was cut that much like you say, then I don't it looking that much better.

I can forgive it though I wish they were more clever in hiding it.

Looks okay. More like the first one, which is good for me. As long as it's not just a COPY of the first one, that is. But VD and the director seem to have a big passion for the character, so hopefully they've come up with something new.

Me too!:word:

That was an awfully short but cool teaser. I think they probably put out that out there for all the die-hard fans who've been clamoring for some footage.

On the budget...at one point they were scouting locations in New Zealand and Diesel said they were talking to WETA Workshop. Obviously with budget being slashed to 38 million they couldn't afford that.

But at the end of the day, just the fact that this got made is a testament to Diesel and Twohy's passion and commitment to the character/franchise. That's a great thing to see.

Even though the teaser is short, it did its job, it got me excited, cant wait to see more.

It's so weird to think that Uwe Boll's 'In the Name of the King' (60m) costed more than 'Dredd' (40m) and 'Riddick' (38m)

And Pan's Labryinth was around 19 million if I recall correctly. I never saw In the Name of the King so I couldn't say where the money in that movie went. Other than the actors, the hookers, and blow.

60 M? Did that even get a theatrical release? They rightly dumped that to obscurity.

I'm really looking forward to this. Rewatched the directors cut of Chronicles of Riddick tonite and enjoyed it. It's silly yet still lots of fun, with great design as well. I'm just glad their not completely ignoring the events of CoR with the new film.

Teaser is very reminiscent of Pitch Black. Good.

Unfortunately, this thing looks like it only cost $30 million.

It doesn't look that bad but it's obviously done on a budget. Still going to see it though.

I'm still gonna see it and it might be entertaining....but this is the case where the cinematographer and the visual fx team aren't on the same page. That and the low budget. The greenscreen composites doesnt work here. I don't mind the CG for the aliens however, but none of the environments featured in the trailer feels real besides the ship's interior.. Pitch Black benefited from using real locations and the heavy use of shadows to hide its budget.

If this film was to stay low budget I wish it was 50 million instead of 30. I wish I wasn't so hard on it and this looks like a step up from the last film. But if you don't have the resources for an ambitious project like this, you gotta play it creatively to hide the budget.

That shot of him banging the chains while giggling was creepy as hell.

Greatly looking forward to it, I don't mind a low budget I think they will use what they have to the fullest. I think it looks great to some of the other CG-fests out there.

What was the budget for Pitch Black? I'm sure it was just as low, but it certainly didn't feel like it.

I'm not saying that a higher budget means a better quality movie by any means. If the story here is good, then the FX won't matter.

Pitch Black certainly felt like a cheap film IMO
